Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, October 29, 2025

Despite his reputation of making deals, U.S. President Donald Trump has not discussed efforts to broker a deal to end the political gridlock that has shutdown America's government. The Atlantic writes about the number conflicts and government duties Trump has attended to in October.

"When it comes to the government shutdown, Trump barely seems to be paying attention," Toluse Olorunnipa, Jonathan Lemire, and Russell Berman write. "Some of Trump's closest advisers told us that the president has been distracted and busy dealing with other matters."[image or embed]

End the Gaza war
Make Mexico pay for the wall
Bring manufacturing back to the US
Lower grocery prices
Lower prescription drugs
Lower housing costs
Lower utility costs
Pass an infrastructure bill

It's almost like he is nothing but full of shitake.

This is what Trump wanted.

Him in total control.

Quasi dictator status.

If Johnson were to reopen the house, which he seems quite content not to, he'd have to swear in Adelita Grijalva.

I think Trump and Republicans are in agreement on this point. There's no urgency on Republicans in Congress to, well, govern. These are the same Republicans who went on recess so they could do Damage Control and strong-arm the Republicans who were defying Trump by demanding the release of the Epstein Files.

All MAGA, including the DR fascists here, lack the imagination necessary to think big and create the conditions needed for prosperity and excellence. Not an original thought among them, just reactionary nonsense in response to everyone else who *actually* want freedom and democracy. Literally none of the MAGA trolls in our government or on this site can fathom free thought and all they can do is try to force their bigotry and hatred of freedom on others ... as has been the case for decades, MAGA does not understand governance and representation. They want rulers, not leaders. They want a big Daddy to take care of them, not freedom. As long as their Daddy with the small hands tells them what to think and how to act, everything is fine.

Complete failure of free thought, and mediocrity in everything they do. MAGA is afraid of excellence, because they're all in the bottom half of the Bell Curve in terms of education, intellect and free thought.

Pertinent, I think:

O'Brien: How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?

Winston: By making him suffer.

O'Brien: Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but MORE merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress towards more pain. The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice. Ours is founded upon hatred."

-Nothing constructive to add to the conversation.

can't argue with that. It wasn't meant to be substantive.

or clever.....not sure why you are sarcastically identifying it as such.

Come on.

You're a clever guy.

It's a compliment.

Even if I wasn't totally using it as such.

"Trump is barely in the files ... "

Actually this was a sticking point in Pam Bondi appearing before a congress investigation. She was asked if the FBI (which had to return to get the contents of the safe they missed) had found the photos of Trump with two young women bare to the waist was found and if she'd personally viewed them. The first time she was asked, she attacked the questioner, the second time she was asked she refused to answer so she wouldn't perjure herself.

So Trump is definitely in more than just barely.

Ah yes, the old, "I know you are but what am I?" response. You just made my point for me with your reply, LOL!

BOAZ, like all MAGAdiots, hates poor people and wants Americans to fail in order to make billionaires richer with nothing in return.

When SNAP runs out, everyone is affected. Grocery stores lose customers, farmers lose revenue, distribution suffers (truckers, shipping, etc.), prices go up and people starve.

It's an unmitigated disaster, simply because Repubicans are incapable of understanding basic principles of economics and government.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Meanwhile, simp Mike "Pornhub" Johnson is keeping the House on paid vacation in order to protect his pedophile overlords.

"Trump is barely in the files ... "

If that were the case, he'd be eager to release them to prove his innocence. It's really not that hard to figure out ... for anyone who understands basic logic.

This is exactly true.

Not to mention SNAP is an economic stabilizer.

"Every dollar spent on SNAP benefits generates up to $1.80 in economic activity, a figure often cited in studies, particularly during economic downturns. This economic multiplier effect occurs because households spend the benefits at local grocery stores, which in turn supports jobs, wages, and other businesses in the community."

All of this is entirely preventable if the Senate chooses to do what the House has already done, and that's the simple act of funding our government without making extraneous and controversial demands in the process, the same way other Congresses have for more than 200 years.

Sounds the same.

All of this is unnecessary.

Money is available for SNAP.

Trump simply doesn't want it being spent.

"All of this is entirely preventable if the Senate chooses..."

This is political theater with people's lives. The Senate has always had an out, one they have used before. This time they hope to drag it out trying to make the Dems pay for the audacity of refusing to go along with status quo and get the public's ire against them. They have always had the nuclear option available to them at anytime they so chose to use it. So far they've chosen to leave things right where they are.

It tells you right away where the problem is all over again. That is to say, the Repubs are right where they want to be and won't be changing things until it's so bad they have to do something. It is highly unlikely they'll go along with extending ACA credits unless forced to by public opinion against them.

With control of all three sections of the government there is only one party at fault here, the Repubs.
