Republicans are punishing poor people, elderly people, and children, intentionally trying to make them starve, for political purposes... theoretically for political gain?

I was just looking at another thread where BillJohnson was talking about being a Christian.

How does this conform with Christian values?

If he keeps kowtowing to Trump, Republicans won't just lose the Mid-Terms, they may not get into power again until the next century.

Trump's Approval Rating is his lowest ever, 36 percent, meaning ONLY the Base, no swing voters.

Democrat Elites hanging infinite Obamacare subsidies over the American public's head

Simply unable to come to terms with their poor legislation, nor how fix it.

I just read this threat from a Republican Senator. It goes something like this ...

If the GOP Nukes the filibuster with 51 votes, why vote for a continuing CR? Why not just cancel a whole bunch of expenses that the Democrats wouldn't let us cancel before.
Be careful what you wish for.

Democracies work best when there is compromise.
"Mutual respect is necessary for a democracy to function, and denigrating another's patriotism, misrepresenting an opponent's positions, and refusing to cooperate even on matters on which there is agreement undermine the relationships needed to resolve differences."

Both Democrats and Republicans agree people should be fed, it's time to compromise.

Because its not their problem.

Quite simply, the Democrats broke it, so they bought it, thinking they were the only people who knew how to do it. It's been broken for some time. Pelosi just papered over it, causing even more upheaval.

ObamaCare was doomed if insurance prices went too high. Even with the mandate penalty, it's cheaper not to get insurance. It's now in a death spiral; only those who need it now will sign up for it.

Not to worry, insurance companies made their money!

Actually, it's not a bad design.

Republicans killed it when they eliminated the mandate. Every time Republicans have worked on this problem in good faith, they've concluded it can't work without the mandate.

Repubilcans must not have a better plan because we have yet to hear one. Repubilcans would prefer if the Republicans depending on those subsidies just don' thave health care any more. If that's not correct please set the record straight!

"It's over and if they cant get 7 democrats to agree it's over, people who go hungry will can look to the Democrat party as the reason."

Health care through ACA subsidies and not going hungry thanks to SNAP are two different things.
SNAP has funds right now. Trump won't release them, in defiance of the law.
There's nothing seven Democrats can do to change that.

Take the W, this is all Republican all the way.

The republicans have spent years tearing ACA apart piece by piece because it was the black guys legislation and they hated that fact. If that wasn't true they would have spent all this time changing it and building on it for the good of the American people. Unless repubs, of course, are just willing to admit they don't give a rats behind about Americans and are only concerned about shareholders in the medical insurance industry.

#43 | Posted by rukiddin at 2025-11-04 05:58 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

That is an example of why I can't wrap my head around people who support republicans. They do literally NOTHING to help poor and middle class Americans.

Generally speaking, anything that does help them comes from democrat policies that republicans refuse to help with and then take credit for.

Like what substantive thing has the republicans done for middle and lower class people over the past 40+ years?

No child left behind, maybe, could at least be considered an effort at helping them

Tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy is the only thing the republicans have done over the past 25 years.

Other than the culture war ----, which they are successful with and I accept that there are lower and middle class people who want what the republicans are serving on that stuff

but what substantive economic thing have the republicans done?

I suspect that one of the reasons senators don't want to eliminate the filibuster is they would have no place to hide! They would have to take tough votes that would alienate many of their constituents. Since senators are elected state wise, senators in "purple" states know that they will be at risk if they are forced to vote on every contentious measure coming before them. There would be a lot of intra party fighting to tweak bills to minimize their risks.

The Democrats refusal to address the Affordable Care Act's flaws hurts working and Middle Class Americans who earn too much for subsidies but not enough to absorb rising premiums.

The temporary, enhanced premium tax credits that raised subsidies and expanded eligibility under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 and were later carried forward by the Inflation Reduction Act were written to sunset at the end of 2025, returning subsidy rules closer to pre-ARPA levels unless Congress acts to extend or make the enhancements permanent (sources: [1], [1], p1_s3). The Affordable Care Act's original premium tax credit remains part of law and would continue after 2025, but many households would face substantially higher premiums if the ARPA-era enhancements expire (sources: [3], p1_s2).

It's due to expire the end of this year, regardless. Democrats are determined to extend the enhancements and Trump is determined it won't happen.

I side with Trump who wants to fix the existing problems with it.
