True. Some of it will need official confirmation. Especially what the agent knew and didn't know at the time he pulled the trigger. Though I trust the Minneapolis PD about as much as I trust the doj. So we'll see.

And also why I think the disarming agent is so culpable in the situation. If he had yelled the gun was secured, even given the spontaneous discharge by the weapon he may still be alive because the agent may have paused to identify the source of the shot.

But the spontaneous discharge is very material.

Think of it this way: an intruder breaks into your home and you get in a fight with him even though you have a gun. You see he has a gun on his hip and yell about it. Your wife comes in and pulls it out of his waist band, doesn't tell you, and you don't see it while you are still rolling around with him. You step back with your gun pointed at him ... laser focused your attention on him ... and your wife has an accidental discharge 1 second after you seeing the gun so all you hear is a gun shot.

I guarantee you shoot him and wouldn't think twice. I guarantee you would think he was shooting at you.

That doesn't justify it, he certainly should identify his threat before shooting. But it goes a long way to explain what happened and why it happened.

Oh I didn't say that. I only refuted the point trying to be made that he would have helped an injured agent. I have no issue with a properly credentialed concealed holder carrying. He WAS outside the law since he wasn't carrying his id or the permit as required by Minnesota law, but that's an admin problem not germane to the shooting.

When I carry concealed, the first thing I do in EVERY interaction with law enforcement is make sure they know I am armed, where it is, and don't put my hands near it.

If he had wanted to help, he would have carried a med bag and not a gun. Come on.

That last bit was an overall condemnation against the violent mob that is the Minneapolis population, and not Pretti Himself.

Also, yes it did happen. You can see it discharge on video as he turns and walks. The slide clearly racks back and then recoil raises his arm to the side over foot as he instinctively ducks his head for cover.

I'm not going to excuse the shooting of Pretti. It doesn't look good for the agent. There is a lot of blame to put on Sig Sauer as well. The gun discharged spontaneously which likely directly led to the shooting. Pretti was carrying an sig 320 a gun with a horrible reputation for spontaneous discharges. It's a dangerous gun. I hope Pretti's family sues Sig in addition to ICE. Personally? I think the lion share of the blame false to the agent that disarmed Pretti and didn't yell "gun secure!" They are trained to tell gun loudly so everyone knows their is a gun in play, it's equally important to tell when it is no longer in play. The spontaneous discharge was just a horrific icing on the crap cake.

But that said, none of this would be happening if the citizens of Minnesota had decided on peaceful assembly instead of violent resistance.

1) They are throwing rocks, snowballs and frozen water bottles
2) they surround and block agents vehicles in the street
3) they have stormed hotels demanding to be told what rooms agents are staying in
4) they have vandalized government vehicles
5) they get dangerously close to agents to film them
6) they get in between them and their targets
7) they warn their targets to make sure they can't arrest them
8) they follow them everywhere they go trying to learn where they live or what hotels they are in
9) they ram agents cars
10) despite being upset ice is allegedly demanding papers, they have stopped random people and demanded they provide proof they aren't ICE.
11) they are DOXXing agents to put out their names and addresses to terrorize their families.

NONE of that is peaceful assembly. None. If they stayed on the sidewalk and filmed all they like starting months ago, none of this violence would be happening. They escalated the violence. They started violence so they could elicit a response just to be able to point to that response and declare they are afraid of them.

Saying ICE is causing the violence is putting the cart before the horse. They are dealing with violence from the citizenry but somehow they aren't supposed to respond to being attacked? It's an insane position to take.

I am ALL for peaceful assembly. But the second you step into the roadway or approach them aggressively you are no longer a peaceful assembly, you are a mob. If they didn't do these things ICE could conduct their traffic stops, get their targets and move on. There would be no violence and this operation would likely be over by now.

The idea that they should be able to stick their hands in the dogs mouth, pinch its tongue and then cry foul when bit is crazy.
