Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, February 23, 2025

Unelected billionaire Elon Musk sent an email to all federal employees Saturday demanding that they reply back with five bullet points of what they achieved last week by Monday at 11:59 p.m., saying in a Twitter post that if they don't it would be considered their resignation. The demand has been met by numerous federal agencies and departments telling their employees not to respond absent further guidance.

I think it is more precise to say Musk is the unelected hatchet man who is carrying out the plans of Trump and Project 2025 to dismantle and privatize federal agencies:

Project 2025's plan to gut civil service with mass firing

Even as Trump tries to disavow the rightwing blueprint, both have similar plans to replace many federal employees

Speaking about federal employees last month, the former president said: "They're destroying this country. They're crooked people, they're dishonest people. They're going to be held accountable."

www.theguardian.com

And:

Project 2025 Seeks to Dismantle Agencies, Terminate Up To 1 Million Federal Workers

The plan promises a takeover of our country's system of checks and balances in order to "dismantle the administrative state" " the operations of federal agencies and programs according to current law and regulation, including many of the laws and regulations that govern federal employment.

"Project 2025 will take away freedoms and rights from every American, will hurt the middle class and working families, and is a threat to our democracy," said AFGE President Everett Kelley. "It's a takeover of our federal government in a manner that is not loyal to the Constitution and the law, has no interest in listening to the people, and will force employees to take orders, legal or not, or be terminated."

The bad news is they are just beginning their destructive rampage:

Here are the highlights--or rather lowlights--of Project 2025 to help you understand how these plans would undermine national security, destroy democracy, and take away our rights:

Yup.

And Pres Trump endorses Mr Musk's actions because the anger is directed at Mr Musk, not Pres Trump.

Stated differently, Pres Trump seems to be cowardly hiding the shield of Mr Musk.

Cowardly.

... Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have little more than 48 hours to explain what they accomplished over the last week as part of billionaire Elon Musk's crusade to slash what he describes as "waste everywhere" in the federal government. ...

So far, Mr Musk's "waste everywhere" expedition has come up relatively null. Little more than apparent lies to justify it.

But that aside ...

Why does Mr Musk now think it is up to the individual workers to justify why they were hired?

Should not Mr Musk be asking the managers why they justified that position in the first place?

Yeah, Mr Musk's slash and burn approach looks to have some fundamental issues.

Presumably whether it complied with the request, including a response with five bullet points and carbon copying the email to a supervisor in the same organization. Otherwise, it would probably be flagged for a person to review.

A relative of mine works at the VA received this email. She received a message from her supervisor and the union not to respond to it, for now.

History will probably remember this as an attempt to micromanage the entire federal workforce, a la Jimmy Carter, except with "AI".

IMO this is horrible management on Musk's part, I have been critical of him in the past and believe perhaps he's suffering from long term ketamine use.

Listen/watch Musk from 10 years ago, and one today. He has alot of money, but he's gotten dumber.

She received a message from her supervisor and the union not to respond to it, for now.

If your relative received this message, they should reply. My guess is what they are looking for is for people that are actually proud of what they do, and have done this week.

It is just a test, the answer doesn't matter. People like DialAgain, and Gaslighter probably have never worked in a real office where ---- gets done, asking who is going to read it, no one, no one is going to read it, because thats not the point.

I think its just a troll by the current administration,

idk your definition of troll, but there is a purpose to email. To weed out all the people that didn't do ----, ergo wont respond. The purpose of Management, and Unions telling people not to respond is to protect those that don't do ----.

Is this a good management tactic, no, is it what is happening, most assuredly.

And what about people who have been on sick leave or annual leave, or will be tomorrow and are unable to respond?

Of course, it will be easy to comply with this initially by listing 5 job functions or 5 examples of implementing particular job functions, but it sounds like this could be a weekly thing. The concern that many people have is that if the response is not worded just right, then it could be used to by DOGE to terminate employees regardless of how well they do their jobs.

Who exactly is going to read these hundreds of thousands of reports? ...

No one.

It is a charade designed to appear they are doing something.

Then random workers will be fired citing "job performance".

Elmo stated the goal is to cut $4,000,000,000 per day from the government.

Eventually that is unsustainable and needed functions will start breaking down. Elmo will happily step in and offer his companies to replace the fired workers. He will even hire the fired workers at 1/2 the pay with piss poor benefits, charge the government more than the workers were costing and pocket the rest. That's what he earned by keeping the traitorous felon out of prison.

He's already said he will have SpaceX engineers help with air traffic control. Get ready for more "rapid disassembly" events.

Elon Musk demand that federal workers document what they do causes chaos
www.theguardian.com

... FBI head Kash Patel tells agents to pause' responses to order as unnamed Pentagon official calls it silliest thing in 40 years'

Labor unions and advocacy groups have asked a federal court to prevent retaliation against government employees, after Elon Musk issued an ultimatum demanding they detail in bullet points what they do at their jobs or face dismissal.

The weekend email sent to millions of employees was the latest salvo in Musk's campaign, authorized by Donald Trump, to dramatically downsize the federal government. Over the weekend, a coalition of groups opposed to the mass layoffs asked a court to prevent reprisals against employees who fail to reply by the deadline of Monday at midnight.

"This request, and the resulting confusion, is not just inappropriate " it is disruptive to essential government functions," wrote Everett Kelley, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit originally filed to stop the mass firings of probationary workers.

Several federal departments have reportedly told their employees not to respond to the email, which was sent from the office of personnel management (OPM), one of the first federal organs Musk and his team on the so-called "department of government efficiency" infiltrated after Trump was sworn in. ...
