It's all about the cult leader. If anyone supports him, they are good. If anyone opposes him, they are bad. That's as deep as their brains go.

fwiw, I could not care less about Ms Swift and here future hubby, aside from wishing them well, as I do with all engaged couples.

Stated differently, I am not a Taylor Swift fan, probably because I avoid Pop music. Indeed, when the alternative music station I enjoy ( www.1071thepeak.com ) actually played a song with Ms Swift doing back-up vocals, it was a song by The Nationals. I do note that the song did not seem to last long on the playlist of the station. I view that as A Good Thing.

Robin Williams
"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always,"
Philanthropy
In 1986, Williams teamed up with Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal to establish Comic Relief USA. This annual HBO television benefit devoted to the homeless raised $80 million as of 2014.[132] Bob Zmuda, creator of Comic Relief, explains that Williams felt blessed because he came from a wealthy home, but wanted to do something to help those less fortunate.[133] Williams made benefit appearances to support literacy and women's rights, along with appearing at benefits for veterans. He was a regular on the USO circuit, where Williams traveled to 13 countries and performed to approximately 90,000 troops.[134] After his death, the USO thanked Williams "for all he did for the men and women of our armed forces".[135]

Williams and his second wife Marsha founded a philanthropic organization called the Windfall Foundation to raise money for many charities. In December 1999, he sang in French on the BBC-inspired music video of international celebrities doing a cover of The Rolling Stones single "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)" for the charity Children's Promise.[136]

Williams at Naval Support Activity Bahrain on December 19, 2003
In response to the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, Williams donated all proceeds of his Weapons of Self Destruction Christchurch performance to help rebuild the New Zealand city. Half the proceeds were donated to the Red Cross and half to the mayoral building fund.[137] Williams performed with the USO for U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.[138]

For several years, Williams supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.[139]

Pedro Pascal is admirable because despite suffering debilitating anxiety treats everyone with compassion and respect

Angelina Jolie LITERALLY does hands on philanthropy work through out the world

Emma Watson is, by all accounts, a kind, humble, very intelligent woman who advocates for gender equality/

Truth,

I gave LeVar a maybe instead of no.

Can't you read the nuance?

Unless a kid's got a real shot at acting or singing and the bank account to match, celebs aren't good role models.

They're distractions.

Too many kids today copy singers and half-dressed actors, thinking that's success.

Nahhh. Not good role models. Most of them barely earn it. Agents cut the deals, crews do the work, and they show up for photo-ops.

If you think they're out there doing real manual labor, you're falling for a carefully choreographed production.

Bill, sincerely, your perspective on the world is warped. You have serious issues with your morality.

People who treat other people well are to be admired

People who have suffered and treat other people well are to be admired

People who struggle through adversity and succeed are to be admired

Just because someone is a "celebrity" is no reason to discount their achievements

In fact, a celebrity who has all the reason in the world to be a selfish ----- and who isn't is a person to be admired.

The list of people I presented are people who have the means to be selfish -----s and choose to use their platforms for good.

These are people that back their words with actions.

John Cena has granted over 650 wishes to kids. He has flown all over the country to fulfill the wishes of desperately sick kids. OVER 650 TIMES as of July 2022

The man is a real man. He does something that takes an ungodly amount of emotional strength to do, because he knows how much it means to these dying children

I get it, you simply do not have the morality to understand, but what John Cena has done and does is, simply, good.

Keanu Reaves has endured significant personal tragedy throughout his life, including his father abandoning him, his best friend River Phoenix dying from a drug overdose, the stillbirth of his daughter with Jennifer Syme, and Syme's subsequent death in a car accident. He also supported his sister through a long battle with leukemia.

Despite all this he treats people, apparently everyone, with kindness and gentleness, he is generous with the people he works with and his fans.

These are good actions

That you don't see that says a lot about you.

It is insane that your definition of someone admirable is calloused hands

Angelina Jolie is a renowned humanitarian known for her extensive work with refugees and displaced people, most notably her two-decade tenure as a Goodwill Ambassador and then Special Envoy for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. She has led over 60 field missions, advocating for refugee rights, promoting education for children affected by conflict through the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, and founding the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation to support conservation and education in Cambodia. After leaving her UNHCR role in 2022, she continues to support refugees through direct engagement with local organizations and advocacy for broader human rights issues.

She has literally gone to war zones and refugee camps to help.

That is, simply, a good thing

That you don't see that says a lot about you.

Pedro Pascal suffers from crippling anxiety

He is addressing it through therapy, openness and coping mechanisms like grounding and meditation.

That a famous person suffers a mental health issue and is open and honest about it, is, wait for it..... admirable.

It is honesty like that that reduces stigma from mental health issues.

That is a good thing

I watch very little regular TV. Morning weather and I record a few things OTA using my Tablo OTA dvr.

I am able to buzz past all commercials on it.

I watch almost nothing ever that makes me watch ads. I do peek at CNN to see what distortions they're peddling and Foxnews to see more accurate info. They have people interviewed both liberal viewpoints and, of course, conservative.

I skip over any starving dogs or starving people when I watch TV. I just don't want those visual images in my head. I know its out there and not a thing I can do about it.

I don't think I've ever heard Cena speak.

Internet is my primary source of news and my wife. Truthfully her brilliance is amazing. She's a walking encyclopedia. Always reading something. We met at a library 40+ years ago.

Sounds like Cena does good things but I don't like watching people fight even though I know it's mostly scripted.

Laura,

What will you be saying when JD is President?

He is a well rounded decent person.

You should watch Ron Howard's movie made about his early life.

Howard made the movie when Vance worked in finance and not in politics yet.

Interestingly....there is one scene in the movie where JD was a young boy watching TV at his house.

His family was making a racket and he told everyone to hush down...he was trying to watch Al Gore on TV.

You could the screen in the movie and sure enough, there was Al Gore.

Ron Howard wouldn't have known JD Vance was going to be the VP himself someday.

#144 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-08-28 11:01 PM | Reply

JD Vance quotes about Trump:

"I'm a Never Trump guy."
"I'm a Never Trump' guy," Vance said in an interview with Charlie Rose in 2016, while publicizing his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy." "I never liked him."

"My god, what an idiot."

Back in 2016, during his #NeverTrump phase, Ohio Senate candidate and Hillbilly Elegy author JD Vance said Trump was either a "cynical -------" or "America's Hitler" in a private message to an old law school classmate.

"Mr. Trump is unfit for our nation's highest office," he wrote in the op-ed,

"I can't stomach Trump," Vance said in an interview with NPR, when describing why he would vote for a third-party candidate. "I think that he's noxious and is leading the white working class to a very dark place."

He even considered voting for Hillary Clinton over Trump: "I think there's a chance, if I feel like Trump has a really good chance of winning, that I might have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton."

www.politico.com

Of course, that was before Peter Thiel bought himself a VP candidate with donations to Trump.... Shady JD changed his tune when his pockets were full.
