That said, detaining a 9-year-old resident of Columbia who was in the US on vacation because mom was an illegal seems pretty dumb. The kid was not poor. Why not just let her stay with her stepdad under the terms of the Visa? Worst case, send her home.

Ellis Island was a holding pen for people who may not make the cut to be US citizens. Because they were sick, or radicals, or handicapped, or whatever. 3,500 people died at Ellis Island.

ICE is authorized to utilize administrative warrants to carry out their assigned duties.

There are 14 million illegal immigrants in the US. To require a judge to review each warrant would require a massive increase in the number of judges.

To put it in perspective, there are just under three million people in the US military. The total military JAG force numbers around 4,000.

If I'm not away from home in Vegas, you can often find me in Norway. It's actually pretty diverse. I routinely work with a black FSK (Norwegian Special Forces) officer.

States control voting. When the country was established, at least some states allowed black people to vote. It was those who did not own property, regardless of color, that were not allowed to vote.

There is no such thing as selective understanding. It happened or it didn't. But it is a fallacy to say that the founding fathers didn't want black people to vote. Had that been their position, they could have easily included language in the constitution.

That said, everyone has the right to appeal a charge. Given my earlier example-had I received a ticket for a car that wasn't mine, I would appeal. But it was my car. The parking Nazi who issued the ticket, which is what they do all day, every day, was not wrong in their assessment of the illegally parked car. To take it to court would be a waste of time and resources, and the end result would not change.
