So, when might MAGA abandon Pres Trump in order to survive the future?

They won't say that it's over. They'll simply scuttle back under their rocks. The great lesson of World War II is that the fascists were beaten but never went away.

Yes, it's a tempest in a teacup, but still a good barometer of present social reality. It is instructive that the Trump/MAGA people here only mount guerilla raids. They no longer come here in force, and their in-your-faceness is much reduced.

We saw much the same thing when these people also discovered that George W. was not a god. The absence of Trump/MAGA from these pages is as close as you'll ever get to an apology. Even though a huge apology is owed to us, to America, and to the entire human race.

The truth is, you never will be.

You support the destruction of the United States because you hate the freedom and equality Americans have strived to achieve over the past century.

You'd rather the country fail than imagine living in an America where cis Gender, heterosexual, Christian White Men were actually equal to the rest of society.

Nixon,

After the Japanese lost, they were forced to renounce their Emporer is God.

Iran has a somewhat similar structure in that political and religious authority are intertwined.

The zealotry of Iran's theocratic regime stems partly from its belief that it is acting and fighting in service to Allah.

Unless we can convince them their God is not real (fat chance) Trump has the problem of accomplishing his objectives but leaving their religious beliefs intact.

Alex,

Truly, I'm not a "MAGA," whatever that is and yes, I own a MAGA hat.

Before I retired, I had a life-size cardboard Trump standing against the wall in my office. I bought it during his first term as a conversation piece.

But do you honestly believe I approve of Trump's lifestyle? Do you believe he reflects my personal values, especially after everything I've posted here over the years?

All this "pedo" nonsense people posting one accusation after another is nothing more than an attempt to insult me by association.

I don't really care, but I hope it's all just part of the game. "You bought a Trump Bible ha ha."

How could anyone who knows my beliefs think I approve of the way Trump has lived?

I voted for the Republican candidate, who happened to be Trump.

Today, politically, I'm glad to see him taking on Iran. It's about d time someone did.

There is far more going on and far more at stake than what is immediately obvious or can be reduced to nuclear weapons, although I completely agree that those are a serious concern.

You have to compartmentalize politicians. Supporting someone politically does not mean embracing his character, lifestyle, or every decision he makes.

That doesn't mean I dislike everything about Trump either. I don't.

He is a smart man.

That's all I'll say.

I taught college mixed in with my day job.

That might be the personality what you see from me on here sometimes.

Db,

"Atheism is just another form of faith to me."

I agree.

Atheism has functionally become an organized religion.

A liberal nominating 3 seats would be bad for America.
The second time I voted for Trump was because liberals had completely lost their minds by that time.
I just don't know what has happened to them. I have some opinions. None good.

I was blessed to have a mother who indoctrinated me into the arms of Jesus and a wife with similar beliefs.

I am extremely independent in my thinking.
I don't follow anyone or any groups.
After being exposed to information
I form my own opinions which I sometimes change.

Yes, words matter.

Interesting that you view your childhood church experience as one of indoctrination. While common, that's by no means universal.

Interesting that you've been exposed to nothing in your life to move you off that dime, either. I have great admiration for some people who say that, but the group your religious perspective has thrown in with has "completely lost their minds. I just don't know what has happened to them. I have some opinions" (more BillJ).

Too much quoting. I'm getting like Hans, and sick of myself.

How ya figure?
Please tell me about the "faith" component active in atheism.

My belief, or lack thereof, in any sort of entity that literally rules over us cosmically, is not rooted in any sort of faith.
It's from observation of my surroundings.

Now, you could argue that trusting my senses and my intellect is an act of faith. I put my faith in my senses, as it were.
But that reduces any conscious decision to an act of faith.
Pressing "submit" after writing this comment and believing it will show up on the DR would be an act of faith, if you look at it that way.

Faith is much more than believing "Water is Wet, and it will be wet the next time I touch it too."
Isn't it?

Not exactly. When I think of academics around here who seem interested in passing along digestible, factual information, and knowing more than what they post, my mind goes to Doc Sarvis.

Don't know what your day job is or was, but buddy, you ain't no Doc Sarvis.

Atheist are no different than any other religious organizations. Especially those who belong to Freedom From Religion Foundation. They are some of the most militant out there.

But you can't say why.
When you say "bad for America" it's code for "Things BillJohnson emotionally disagrees with."

"Atheist are no different than any other religious organizations."

You mean atheist organizations? Organizations are like other organizations, even orgs with opposing agendas will still have a leadership hierarchy, sure. That's not really saying anything about atheism itself.

Technically, atheism is a lack of belief in deities.

So, BJ isn't an atheist... at least when it comes to Trump, whose name is the largest print on the front of his Chinese-produced Bible.
