Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a member of the court's conservative wing, wrote a concurrence explaining that he thought the proposal may be within the authority of the USPS, but that "state and local election officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections."

Interesting parallel with Bush v Gore in 2000, where they were trying force changes to rules in how votes were counted before an impending deadline.

Voting by mail has already begun in states including Alabama, North Carolina and Wisconsin, with more soon to follow " including Western states such as Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, where elections are held primarily or fully with mail ballots.

And now we have one more reason to make sure to show up and vote during the midterm elections...if the Republican Party keeps both Houses of Congress, they can push this through and take their time about it.
I do hope Alito resigns fairly soon, he is a disgrace to Yale Law School, who seemed to have taught him that the Constitution is a suggestion, not the primary authority.

This will not stop here.

Those who can avoid voting by mail should do so, at all costs.

Remember all those photos of folks in other countries standing in line for hours on end, just to vote? I've done that, in Ohiehomie, standing in a line, once in the freezing rain, the other with a thunderstorm bearing down on the polling place, in each case for four hours. Americans should be prepared to vote as early as possible, in as secure a location as possible, e.g., at your local board of elections.

ICE thugs and Proud Boys will be out, causing mischief on election day, attempting to chase folks away and intimidate those who hang around to exercise their rights. And once again, African Americans: get out and vote. This may be the last time in your lives when you are able to do so...

Zed,

For example, I believe ending the life of a child growing inside a woman is a sin.

But her decision is between her and God. I cannot make that moral decision for her, nor do I believe I bear responsibility for the decision she makes.

If there is judgment for that decision, it is hers to answer for, not mine.

That is part of what I mean when I say mixing religion and politics inevitably compromises one or both.

A person has to come to terms with that conflict and decide how to reconcile the two in their own conscience or choose not to.

That, too, is their choice.

Religion is not based on morality

Religion is based on control

Religion only occasionally intersects with morality, usually unintentionally

Politics is about governing people through a single moral code-the single moral code being that moral code agreed on by the people, or by the dictator in certain countries where his moral code is dictated to the people.

It reduces BOTH votes, dumfuq.

And it's because an additional barrier to voting will be an additional barrier to voting.

And every method you're proposing would suppress more legitimate votes than it would thwart illegitimate votes.

Explain why that's OK, and tell us how many votes you would be willing to suppress, to save (for example) two illegal votes?

Fake Plastic Christians are pretty dumb huh?

These facts are actually easy to find out. But no, they are not in your Bible.

There are large numbers of Voters (of all parties) who cannot EASILY show proof of citizenship.

"1 in 10 eligible U.S. voters say they can't easily show proof of their citizenship"

About 1 in 10 adult citizens, or 21.3 million eligible voters, say they either do not have or could not quickly find in order to show the next day their U.S. birth certificate, passport, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship, according to results released Tuesday from a national survey.

Zed,

"I am anxious for SOME moral code to be applied to governance."

Whose moral code?

Of course laws reflect moral judgments. Laws about murder, theft, fraud, abuse, and many others rest partly on judgments about right and wrong.

But that is different from government adopting a particular religious or moral code and imposing it on everyone.

After 250 years, many of the broad rules necessary for an orderly society are already part of our legal system. What we are increasingly arguing about now are the harder questions where legitimate values conflict, individual rights collide, and reasonable people disagree about what government should be allowed to force on society.

Legitimate and perceived rights increasingly overlap and conflict. That is where constitutional boundaries become much harder to navigate, and where the courts are often called upon to determine whether government has crossed those boundaries or whether one person's claimed rights unlawfully infringe upon the rights of another.

And that is exactly why I resist the idea that either conservatives or liberals should become the nation's moral standard-bearer.

My moral beliefs guide me. How I conduct my life is between me and God.

They do not automatically give me the right to make everyone else live by them, nor should anyone else's moral beliefs automatically be imposed on me.

What load of hooey. Laws of the society you live in are "automatically imposed" upon you every day of your life. No matter where you live. And if you vote you are included and involved in the process of making and enforcing those laws.

The conduct of your life is between you and the State and is spelled out in the Constitution which is a contract between you and your government. Not between you and your personal God.

Criminal and civil laws apply to all citizens equally, regardless of their personal faith or lack of belief.

Government bodies create laws for public safety, order, and social welfare rather than enforcing specific theological rules.

Your personal believe in a God should have nothing to do with following the law.

Drop your religious crap.

Not that religion is crap.

Just your usage of it.

America can't play favorites with religions.

Muslim organizations in America are already actively invoking religious-liberty laws to protect and advance their religious rights.

If you create broader laws or legal principles that allow Christians to use their religion to set standards for everyone else, those protections cannot belong only to Christians. Muslims will be entitled to invoke them for Islamic beliefs, just as Jews, Hindus, and every other religion can invoke them for theirs.

Be very careful what power you give religion through government, because you don't get to decide that only YOUR religion gets to use it.

So...again...drop your religious crap.
