Europe and US clash over Ukraine in G7 and UN
www.ft.com

... The US and Europe are battling in the UN and G7 over whether to blame Russia for its war against Ukraine, as President Donald Trump's rapid shift on the conflict threatens to tear apart western unity.

The Trump administration and the EU put forward rival UN resolutions on Monday, while G7 diplomats spent the weekend haggling over whether a joint statement due to be released by the group of rich nations would refer to Russia's "aggression" against Ukraine or not.

In an extraordinary move, the US voted with Russia against Ukraine and EU nations in the UN General Assembly on Monday, ahead of an expected Security Council vote later in the day.

"If [we] look at the messages that come from the United States, then it is clear that the Russian narrative is, there, very strongly represented," EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas told reporters when asked if she believed the Trump administration was acting in Russia's interests. ...

The typical MAGAt moron has somehow bought into the idea that Russia is one of the last bastions of "western values".

The typical MAGAt is right, I guess, if you consider imperialism, Christian monarchy, colonialism, bigotry, etc. to be the western values worth saving. If you mean democracy, the rule of law, protection of minority rights, etc., then Russia is a hellhole.

"Typically, a State of the Union is delivered to a joint session of Congress inside the House of Representatives chamber. The idea of a State of the Union is written into the United States Constitution.

"He [the President] shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient," the Constitution says.

State of the Union addresses have been historically delivered between Jan. 3 and Feb. 2.

With a change of administrations happening this year, President Donald Trump's speech in March will not technically be a State of the Union.

The designation is merely a technicality, according to the American Presidency Project.
"For research purposes, it is probably harmless to categorize these as State of the Union messages (as we do)," their website said. "The impact of such a speech on public, media, and congressional perceptions of presidential leadership and power should be the same as if the address was an official State of the Union."

Here is what you need to know about Trump's speech."

Yep. The latest Trumpified Newspeak and lack of republican push back proves it. It's all Ukraines fault.

Ukraine should have never attacked Russia.

Donald Trump has blamed Ukraine for Russia's invasion of its neighbour. Speaking after talks between US and Russia on ending the war, the US President told Ukraine: "You should have never started it, you could have made a deal ... I could have made a deal that would have given them almost all of the land."

I wonder what motivates the votes of member countries. It appears the US has introduced and will again introduce their own resolution (that doesn't condemn Russia) that got more votes in favor and less against than this one.

That means just as many or even more countries were fine with a resolution that didn't condemn Russia.

Why not? Why not insist on condemning Russia? I can't believe all these countries are so wishy washy on it.

Or......what else is impacting that?

How would be if it went like this?
The US gets a deal where Ukraine gives Russia a small piece of land.(that is already decimated) to appease Putin in exchange for peace. And if he doesn't agree the US says unless he does we will sanction the crap out of them which will decimate their already cratering economy. We get Ukraine minerals, which Zelinsky already agreed to. And because we get those minerals we have US employees over there which further deters Putin from breaking the agreement and attacking. Also Europe has agreed to supply troops to make sure the peace plan stays intact.
And if that works it would better for Russia to be an alley with us than with China.
That seems to be the plan and if it works it would be a good thing, and btw would save lives and the US a hundred billion a year.
So go ahead and respond that "it won't work because Trump is Putin's bitch"
Or "Trump is Hitler", blah, blah, blah.
But tell me what is wrong with that plan. Don't tell me why you think Trump couldn't get it done but what is wrong with the concept.

For starters, why does the US "get a deal" and not Ukraine?

That aside, so many questions ...

I'll start with, Pres Putin has stated that Ukraine should not exist separately from Russia.

So this "peace deal" giving him the land he stole will prevent him from continuing his invasion in the future... how?

... We get Ukraine minerals, which Zelinsky already agreed to. ...

I did not see that Ukraine agreed to that deal. Got a link?

What I have seen is ...

Russia says it's open to economic cooperation with US on rare earth minerals and energy
www.cnn.com

... Russia says it is open for economic cooperation with the United States, including on energy and mining rare earth minerals.

Moscow's comments came after US President Donald Trump said Monday he was in "serious discussions" with Russia about ending its war with Ukraine and was "trying to do some economic development deals" with Moscow, noting its "massive rare earth" deposits.

The comments also follow discussions between the US and Ukraine, in which Trump has demanded access to nearly half of Ukraine's mineral resources in exchange for military aid. ...

... But tell me what is wrong with that plan. ...

OK, "that plan" your current alias proffers looks to be riddled with factual errors.

It is amazing how depleted Russia is quickly becoming. Trump is a rush to save his butt lover. Over $100 Billion in Gold Bullion is gone from Russia's national wealth fund. The reserves of Russia's wealth fund are down to about 1/4 of what they were at the beginning of the war and primarily in Yuan. The rate of burn has only increased year over year too... Once that is gone Russia is borrowing a lot and fast.
