It isn't about winning the election. It is about the successful repudiation of long-held political beliefs and norms.

Mamdani's winning proves to future American political candidates that taking a firm, conscientious stance against the well-funded and organized machinery of the ruling elite- against all odds- can still result in victory. And that is of far greater value than anything he might accomplish during his term as mayor.

How many other Mamdanis are out there- encouraged by his victory and ready to flip the script in 2026 and beyond?

Former vigilante and current animal rights advocate Curtis Sliwa showed more integrity in his losing campaign than triple-loser Andrew Cuomo who betrayed the Democratic Party of his father for a mere 30 pieces of silver. Or was it $4,712,978?

I wonder how many millions of dollars Michael Bloomberg, AIPAC, and the other Islamophobes wasted on this Benedict Arnold?

So, good riddance to bad garbage. Take George Santos with you when you leave NYC ex-governor Cuomo, as both of you promised.

And kudos to Mr Sliwa who, in one of the debates, denounced the threats against Zohran Mamdani unlike Islamophobe Andrew Cuomo.

Tuesday night's elections were a massive sweep for the Democratic Party.

After getting trounced in the election by energetic Zohran Mamdani, the Judas Iscariot of the Democratic Party Andrew Cuomo bleated nonsensically about phantom antisemitism and 'divisiveness' caused by the young man who had soundly defeated him. Cuomo's children had to stand around and listen to their father's whining and drivel. The sexual predator then finally graced New Yorkers by ambling off stage.

The three-time political loser, who is inexplicably on the legal defense team for ICC-indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu at the Hague, spent the last dismal hours of his ignominious career in Manhattan's Ziegfeld Ballroom, where his campaign made a piss-poor decision of emblazoning the deeply tarnished 'Cuomo' name over the urinals.

You just can't make this up.

Mamdani ran a campaign of helping the citizens of NY. Cuomo ran a fear and smear campaign that is tired and old. The socialist boogeyman playblook was replayed over and over and over the past four decades since Reagan began taking from the poor and giving to the ultra rich.

Mamdani tapped into the same rage that Pedo47 tapped into last year... prices going up up up...rent going up up up....insurance going up up up...home ownership dream vaporizing.

Once Pedo47 was elected he abandoned the things that won the election...lowering prices...lowering rent...lowering insurance and instead embraced an agenda of retribution on blue states, an agenda of deporting LEGAL immigrants, an agenda of raising taxes on the poor, cutting financial aid to students, attacking colleges, making life more expensive for the vast majority of Americans through tariffs and higher energy prices. He tries to gaslight the voters by saying prices are dropping 1600%...look at his blatant lying on 60 minutes. He thinks every voter is as stupid as his voters.

He lost the hispanic vote yesterday. I guess they are not keen on having people deported when getting their green cards renewed. I guess they don't like ICE disappearing their neighbors when they drop their kids off at school, or ICE shooting citizens in the back or into a car full of children or ramming vehicles with children in it to deport legal residents.

Him endorsing Cuomo was the icing on the cake. That doomed any chance he had. People are fed up with golden ballrooms, gold plated wall sconces, demolishing the White House, marble bathroom renovations while people are going without pay and SNAP recipients are being held hostage to take away people health insurance.

maybe...I don't know really but that's not what he is saying. He's asking reasonable questions as to what parts of his agenda have a chance of being implemented due to the presence of a State legislature and a Governor neither of which likely take the same position as Mamdani on those issues. Also, what part of his platform has to travel that route vs being implemented by Mamdani himself.

"FishPawn is upset a political candidate is fighting for the working class."

Sure.

The problem is that in order to do that, he is hyper-reliant on the productive classes to not alter their economic behavior and at least maintain current levels of earned income within NYC. He needs the taxes that comes off those earners to fund his project. So he has two big problems. First, the state government has a say in much of what Mamdani was proposing, and it's very possible that the state does not approve. Second, even if the state does approve, high income New Yorkers must be willing to eat those additional costs. In addition, Mamdani is proposing a 60% increase in corporate taxes. Is that something that corporations, and their shareholders, would be willing to accept? With people, it's a bit different. Many New Yorkers regard the city as the center of the universe, and may choose to stay for that reason alone. Businesses will likely be more pragmatic.

It's going to be an interesting experiment. Let's see where it goes.

Here's another one that won't be... Since the die hards here feel rent control is a good idea, Please explain what other policies will accompany it to keep the current infrastructure from going into disrepair as well as not allowing units not under a freeze to keep from skyrocketing? Basically the outcome if just this action is taken is that a current lucky few will get locked in and everyone else eventually priced out. Also there are other tax savings for the average Joe, almost double the standard deduction and increasing the child tax credits. Those are not savings for just billionaires. As I said, if you pay taxes you will like it, if you live on welfare it won't affect you.

And don't forget, when a landlord is forced to accept sub-market value rents, that also shuts out someone who was willing to pay market value. I read an article the other day that developers in NYC are limiting the size of the housing facilities they are building to avoid having to comply with the city's mixed income requirements.

A better option would be for the city to pick up the full tab for the market value of the rent, but that would likely cause problems of its own.

If you want to be more like Europe, here is what you do:

1. Raise taxes on lower income earners. Low-income earners in the US pay almost nothing in federal income tax. In Sweden, a low-income earner would pay three times as much as someone earning the same in the US.

2. Implement a VAT.

So...Klownshack is a ------- idiot. We all know that. But aside from that, I am genuinely interested in seeing how this thing plays out. Like I said, I think Hochul will be Mamdani's greatest obstacle, and that's unfortunate. This is an opportunity to conduct a unique experiment to see how humans react to changing economic environments in real time. We've seen it in places like Argentina, Venezuela, and Chile, but never in the US. I think Mamdani's policies will have a negative overall economic impact on NYC, but he was elected by the voters, and he should be given the opportunity to give them what they want.

Critics and opponents describe the "One Big Beautiful Bill" as an upward transfer of wealth from lower and middle-income Americans to the wealthy, primarily through tax cuts for the rich and cuts to programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and Pell Grants.

Supporters argue the bill will create economic growth, though it has been criticized for increasing the national debt and potentially reducing health insurance coverage for millions.

Jeff Bezos paid 2.7 billion in Federal income taxes in 2024 so enough of "billionaires don't pay taxes".
#75 | Posted by fishpaw

JFC, aren't you the fnkcin' sucker, you silly cultist!

The claim that Jeff Bezos paid $2.7 billion in federal income taxes in 2024 is supported by multiple reputable sources, including Forbes and analysis cited by inequality and tax policy watchdogs. However, this amount was primarily due to the sale of $13.6 billion in Amazon stock, which is taxed as long-term capital gains"not as regular wage income. This means Bezos paid taxes when he realized gains by selling stock, not on his total increase in wealth that year.[1][2]

Details on Bezos's 2024 Tax Payment

- Forbes estimated that Bezos paid about $2.7 billion in federal tax for 2024, directly tied to his substantial stock sales.[2][1]
- The vast majority of this tax payment comes from realized capital gains, which are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income.
- According to Forbes, this $2.7 billion in tax represented only about 4.5% of the increase in his wealth in 2024, as his net worth rose by about $60 billion that year.[2]
- Bezos also reduced his taxable gains through substantial charitable donations of Amazon shares, which resulted in tax deductions and further lowered his overall liability.[2]

Context: Billionaires and Taxes

- Many billionaires, including Bezos, often pay relatively low effective tax rates compared to their net worth or wealth increases, because unrealized gains on assets (such as stock that hasn't been sold) are not taxed under current law.[3][1]
- The $2.7 billion figure does not represent a typical year; it is unusually high due to the record amount of stock Bezos sold in 2024.[2]
- Prior reporting has documented that in some years, Bezos and other billionaires paid no federal income taxes at all.[4]

Conclusion

The statement is factually accurate regarding the $2.7 billion tax payment, but it is misleading as an argument that "billionaires pay their fair share" in the broader sense. The payment was a one-time result of a massive stock sale rather than a pattern of regular, wage-like taxation, and the effective rate remains far lower relative to wealth accumulation than what most middle-class workers pay.[3][1][2]

OK, now the youngest elected Mayor of NYC in over 100 years has to govern, in what has been called the second-most difficult governing position in the US.

What's his plan to accomplish his campaign promises?

To be honest, at this point, I do not think he might accomplish a whole lot. Why? Because it is NYC, a vibrant city. And then there is New York State, which may have to approve most of what he promised.

But I do find it amusing that NYC, the center of capitalism here in the US, has elected a self-declared Democratic Socialist as its Mayor.

I mean, you can't make this stuff up.

I would agree but I don't assign disgust to them. I would think they (NYC voters) would embrace it since they are close to it.

People making millions a year living in such indulgence which is why things are so expensive and out of reach for most New Yorkers.

I'm seeing this through my recent visits there because my daughter moved there. She lives in the financial district, works at a law firm chock full of folks making $700K+ a year.

that's they reason why they voted for this guy? Because they care about others?

Not because they want to stick it to people much better off than themselves?

Instead, it's because they care about "others than themselves"

I'm sure some of them did it for that reason....but you've concluded they all did it for that reason?

Some "liberals' on drudge.com are not fans of the Muslim Zohran Mamdani which is fine. We can read their lukewarm support when they question his background or experience:

To be honest, at this point, I do not think he might accomplish a whole lot. Why? Because it is NYC, a vibrant city. And then there is New York State, which may have to approve most of what he promised.

Why not say as the Mafia does when a new Don is appointed? Buona Fortuna!

Good luck to Zorhan Mamdani is what we all should be saying, unless you're an Islamophobe. Here's his transition team:
www.transition2025.com

And if NYS Governor Kathy Hochul (D) interferes with Zohran's plans, we New Yorkers will not forgive and forget. New York City progressives will simply not vote for her re-election. Kathy Hochul and Elise Stefanik will fight over the upstate and Nassau/Suffolk County white supremacist vote: Islamophobes and antisemites.

US support for Israel is waning across the nation. So let's see how Kathy Hochul does without Mamdani New Yorkers voting for her.

Yeah, I agree, he did run a good campaign (and, living in the NYC media area, I suffered through all the political ads...).

Obviously, Mayor-elect Mamdani's campaign was much better than the one run by his opponents. imo, when Mr Cuomo appeared on the TV screen, he just looked gross. I mean, didn't he even have a make-up person to help him look better?

But, contrary to your current trolling alias' comment, Mayor-elect Mamdani's campaign was more about affordability.

Stated differently, "It's the economy, stupid."

That seems to be what Mayor-elect Mamdani ran on.
