"It's not hate, it's heritage."
This is how JeffJ and Boaz describe the Confederate Flag.

Forty years ago, I edited Counterattack, the house organ of the Southern Defense Initiative; AI shows no reference to it yet.
One of the typesetting shops I worked for in a major southern city flat-out refused to work on it but recommended me because, as with most successful freelancers, earlier in my work I would accept almost anything--the weirder the better.
It was a heritage, not hate, stance, and my Alabama-born wife loved it when, instead of my $25 monthly paycheck, I asked for a T-shirt, which had the Confederate flag on the front and a pointillist picture of Nathan Bedford Forrest on the back. He played the states-rights card far more intelligently than any Retorter. Guy's name is Jim Giles, and you can look him up. Years later, he became a perpetual candidate for a while, running for anything he could, doing internet hate radio, etc.
Jim was an IBM manager, Sorbonne-trained, exceedingly well spoken, and had grown up deep in Mississippi. We got along great, but he eventually stopped publishing the magazine.
I'd check up on him now and then, and his posts had grown anti-Semitic.
At that point, I'd have no longer worked for him. But all the Southern Defense crap I found highly entertaining.
Stop the presses! Hey, he's still going in 2017. He may be a fascist, but he's my fascist.
