NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani was "outraged" by the flag's removal, saying "act of erasure will ever change, or silence" the history of the Stonewall National Monument.
"Our city has a duty not just to honor this legacy, but to live up to it. I will always fight for a New York City that invests in our LGBTQ+ community, defends their dignity, and protects every one of our neighbors, without exception."
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is popular with the LGBTQ community in NYC and will devise a solution which might be to fly the flag directly at the nearby Stonewall Inn until a federal court injunction restores the flag to its proper place.

The Stonewall Inn was a mafia-owned establishment and the NYPD conducted regular raids on it on weekday nights, early in the evening when the bar crowd size was small. Inexplicably the NYPD conducted a raid on the Stonewall Inn on a busy Friday night (28 Jun 1969) without alerting the mafia or the 6th Precinct. The result was an angry mob which the NYPD quickly lost control of. LGBTQ people in Greenwich Village rallied and rioted for a few days before calm was restored. This counterattack against bullying was the genesis of the national LGBTQ rights movement.
To capture the demimonde found and the patina of downtown NYC bars in 1969, here is a scene from an Oscar-winning film made on location the same year: Midnight Cowboy
Police brutality in Greenwich Village, 28 June 1969

Republicans are creating a fiscal hole that can only be filled with the taxes of billionaires.
Republicans know Republicans will never fill that hole.
It's economic murder/suicide.
