In 2024, the vast majority of illegal immigrants coming across the European borders were from Syria and Afghanistan. Third was Mali.

You will need to define "open borders".

If you wish to tighten immigration laws then do that. Congress would be the place to do that.

Cares not that the act of residing in the country without status is largely a civil infraction rather than an ongoing criminal offense, and the unauthorized entry is considered a federal misdemeanor.
