... The survey, conducted by the University of Texas at Austin-Texas Politics Project, asked registered voters whether they believe "political violence" would erupt in response to the 2024 election results.

About 24% of respondents said such an outcome is "very likely," while 36% considered it "somewhat likely." By contrast, 21% thought it was "not too likely," and only 5% saw it as "not at all likely." About 14% remained unsure.

"Dark attitudes from the 2020 election and violent reactions to its outcome among Trump supporters continue to lurk in Texas public opinion," according to the poll. ...

Most TX Voters Think Hope Violence Will Erupt After 2024 Election

There's a segment of people in America who have been wanting a civil war since Obama got elected in 2008.

The nation has only grown more divided since then.

I am 100% counting on these feral idiots to start violence both during and after the election.

They have about as little impulse control as an orange blob of goo that rapes and sexually assaults women.

The day that the GQP voters decided that was acceptable for a President was the day any claim to morality by them was set on fire, extinguished by urination, doused with gasoline and lit on fire again.

------------- slob should be in prison not leading the primary polls.

It really speaks to just how low their moral beliefs are.

Sadly, I think it will happen too.

The GOP has played with the MAGA moron fire for too long and I simply don't think they know how to dial it back.

Both from a practical standpoint of knowing how to deescalate the situation they're built but also from the standpoint of they don't have any other way to run but stoking fear and anger and resentment.

Sounds like the people in Texas expect Trump to lose this election.

In which case, I also expect an uprising of sorts. The United States isn't a dinky little country and we're not talking about the Mason-Dixon line here. If Trump tried to start anything as all-encompassing as a "civil war," I'd love to see those neanderthals come face to face with the superior manpower and artillery that the President of the United States commands.

In a perfect world that would be great. The trouble is, most military personnel lean Republican. Many of them may be willing to abandon the idea that Biden is still their commander-in-chief.

I hope most of them can hold to the side of sanity. But with enough delusional prodding we could end up with a split military. I hope we can avoid a civil war. At the same time, it's hard not to think that the train has already left the station.

Show me a nationwide poll of businesses and banks who are making plans to "board up" in preparation for a civil war and I'll start to pay attention.

When we still lived in NH, my wife was a volunteer ski and kayak instructor for disabled people (NHESA is the organization) and she lived for that one day each week to be on the mountain or at the lake. I would occasionally go and help out if they were short handed. I never, ever disparage the disabled, but Abbott is an exception. A man who puts razor wire in a river and issues an order that makes others stand-by and watch a mother and child that could have been rescued drown to death is not human, and deserves not one iota of respect.

They're just gonna start shelling towns because a MAGA parade? Proud Boys don't have MOABs!!!!

Have you ever seen the movie The Siege? Do you remember the line from Bruce Willis' character about the use of the army in US cities?

All the destructive power of the US military will not be brought to bear in its full intensity against citizens and towns in the US. Using it as a safety blanket does nothing but avoid thinking about the reality of potential civil strife in the US.

And if I'm wrong, well, you won't be so glad for that artillery or F-22s.

I grasp it completely. But I don't think you understood my post. You see, I don't think there is going to be any civil war, not in my town or anywhere else. No President in his right mind would even allow it to get off the launching pad. Any rallies or gatherings to gauge support for such a thing would be infiltrated by FBI agents.

In the unlikely chance that such a thing could be sneaked past the FBI and the especially the President, he certainly has the resourced to squelch it in its infancy.

America has moved past the Mississippi River since Appomattox, if you get my drift. Any civil war like you envision would cost businesses many billions of dollars in lost revenue. No captains of industry, no Wall Street billionaires, no importers and exporters of goods and certainly no Silicon Valley communication giants are going to tolerate that.

I think you need to get over your fear and look at things from a more practical standpoint.

good analogy. It's because you live in a binary world. Everywhere you go and everything you see there is a fence and you're standing on 1 side loathing those on the other side. And all the problems of your world are caused by the folks on the other side of that fence.

No, that's wrong on both accounts. My argument for single payer isn't even based on some notion of everyone getting insurance, though of course everyone should get insurance. It's based on the cold hard facts that it's cheaper to do single payer than what we have. That's a conservative economic argument at heart. I'm only a liberal when it comes to social policy like letting whoever get married or pick their gender or have good quality schools they can go to.

I don't think anything more than a statement of fact that Democrats did that is possible, certainly not a linear comparison of morals, values and principles.

Take Trump's child separation policy. Or the Bush Era Torture Memo. Anybody with fingerprints on that is a bad person. You really gonna disagree with that?

Biden is a bad person for what he did to push the War on Drugs. The other party didn't offer a better alternative, but it's still a black mark on Biden's record, and one he hasn't done enough to rectify, and probably won't. But at least he's not doing it any more, and isn't showing any signs of doing that kind of thing in the future.

W. Bush did a good thing with PEPFAR. Just another example of judging by policy impact.

You can't even identify them.
Deep down you know that.

#154 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Not sure about the "deep down" part.

Not being able to identify them is what makes the Second Amendment so stupid.

That's not deep down that's a plain fact in open view.

@#153 ... Does your alias usually do that? ...

Not usually.

But sometimes, I have to admit, rabbit holes can be entertaining, especially when the Cult of Trump is involved.

Wow, no lyrics seem to be available.

I was not aware this song was deemed to be so trivial...

"Because he knows what you meant was inclusive of everyone."

Not really.

"Trans rights" generally means that one's beliefs entitle them to privileges that others who do not share those beliefs don't have.

"I'm not too worried about "bad people" until they are in the business of doing bad things, at scale, because of the power they wield in society."

It would be more accurate to say that that you're not worried about people doing things that you agree with, bad or not.

It's only when people do stuff you disagree with that problems arise. You've demonstrated that in every thread referencing HAMAS.

And you're actually quite Marxist. I'm noticing that more and more.

Yes, there will be violence after the 2024 election. The only question is how bad. A lot hinges upon how frightened the fascists are afterward. If Biden wins, and especially if he wins big, they may be intimidated. No, not go away. Hide like spiders under rocks. But that will mean that some innocent people get to live.

Y'
mean, go back to where they cam from?

I suppose they have always been here...it's just recently they felt empowered to climb out from underneath the rocks.

Huh? What rights would those even be? Give us some examples of what you're talking about.

For the record I think trans people should have the same rights as other people.

-All I can do is judge them by the impacts of their policy.

By "them" you mean party.

You don't even recognize individual people. Just what party they belong to.

It's cute you pretend massively in hindsight to recognize individuals....but let's be honest...you can't do that.

It's nice you're attempting to be a human being on this thread.

"By "them" you mean party."

Not just party, but obviously the goals of the party and how they implement policy to achieve those goals is fair game.

Them really means leaders.

"You don't even recognize individual people. Just what party they belong to."

I recognize individual people. Like Maryland's former Republican governor who hid his medical supplies from Trump. That was good leadership.

I recognize that party is the organizing principle for politics. It's the starting place.

The whole point of having a party is the same reason soldiers wear uniforms.

It's how you can tell what side someone is on.

What's that mean, to be quite Marxist? Marx was an economic historian.

Let's take my support for equal rights for trans people. Where's the Marxism?

"What's that mean, to be quite Marxist? Marx was an economic historian."

You're a prime example of a believer in dialectical materialism. And Marx was a philosopher who framed history under a lens of dialectical materialism.

He tried to be an economist, but his lack of objectivity prevented him from doing much other than parroting Adam Smith and the labor theory of value.

And DO NOT get me wrong, I'd never accuse you of being anything even remotely resembling and economist.

I said I think trans people and gay people should have the same rights as anyone else.
Is that dialectical materialism?

Cheerleaders, players, in some sports even the coaches. And the fans, who cosplay as the players by wearing their jerseys.

But engaging politics like it's a spectator sport is for small minded people. Sports aren't impactful outside the world of sports. Politics impacts our lives in countless ways every day.

On the spectrum with spectator sport on 1 end and life/death on the other end?

Issues hashed out here are a step away from a spectator sport and miles away from life/death.

People take themselves and the issues way too seriously most of the time.

Both sides. Boaz on 1 side of the fence and you on the other. Both confident the other is crazy and dangerous.

This stuff needs to be taken seriously, eberly ... even if you and I are not directly effected because of our white privilege and money.

Big terrible things are happening in this country, like alabama essentially banning IVF. these things require our attention and yes *gasp* our mortification sometimes.
