Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

I'm disappointed.

More

Alternate links: Google News | Twitter

I own several Bibles and study Bibles. I have different translations and simply enjoy my collection. So, the God Bless the USA Bible was destined to be on my shelf. Anyone who has read my posts knows I have issues with mixing capitalism and Christianity anyway. I find the whole idea of making money selling The Gospel as contradictory. However, to be realistic Bibles cost money to make and people enjoy buying Christian music. About 3 weeks ago I purchased this God Bless bible that claims Trump isn't getting a dime and was sold a few years ago and is being resurrected (so to speak). After making the purchase I got an email saying they received the order and I was charged. The website says they have plenty in stock and are shipping daily. I haven't seen a thing from them since. There is no contact information on the receipt and no indication when it will ship. On their website there is a form to ask questions. The page says they will answer my question. I've filled out the form 3 times asking for a ship date and have heard nothing. I know they have my correct email because I did get the receipt. They are simply not responding.

So ... I am wondering if this actually is a scam.

"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!"

I'll defend BillJohnson here. I don't see a problem with this. Different translations offer up to the reader the ability to understand the text written. Some people understand differently. Besides it's what is in the spirit of the believer and G-d that matters most. Good on BillJohnson for doing so.

"...that claims Trump isn't getting a dime..."

LOL

Will people EVER learn.

I am not sure where you got THAT claim

www.cnbc.com's%20campaign.

It is unclear how much money Trump is making off the Bible " he is receiving royalties from its sales, a person familiar with the arrangement told The New York Times " but whatever he gets will be effectively going into his pocket. The website for the Bibles says it has no link to Trump's campaign.

The website for the Bibles says it has no link to Trump's campaign. It instead uses Trump's name, likeness and image under paid license from a company called CIC Ventures LLC.

Trump's 2023 financial disclosure calls him the "Manager, President, Secretary, & Treasurer" of CIC Ventures, and lists his revocable trust as the sole owner of the company. Trump has made more than $5 million in speaking engagements through the company, the disclosure shows. Florida business records show CIC's address is the same as Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Will this cause BillJ to reconsider this life choices? Absolutely not. He will simple deny that ------- is getting paid.

I am disappointed this is a poorly run operation with apparently not enough staff or they are lying saying they have it in stock or they don't care or it really is a scam.

Regardless, it's a bad reflection on all parties involved.

Not even a blanket email saying some general time frame it will ship.

This day and age a followup message is standard protocol in a normal business transaction.

They need to get their s*** together.

It's reflecting badly on Trump even though they claim he isn't getting a dime (which I know good and well is a lie...his likeness is being paid for I'm sure at a minimum...Trump wouldn't miss a chance to squeeze a buck)

Customers complained about product quality and shipping delays

I think you may have told me once that you don't like the King James version, but it looks like that is what this Bible might be:

The God Bless the USA Bible was originally going to be in the New International Version, a popular version in the United States, but switched over to the royalty free King James Version after Bible publisher Zondervan backed out after controversy.

No it's not the spirit that matters it is the literal WORD OF GOD, there is no room for interpretation.

The issue with "translations" is that words mean dramatically different things in different languages and in different cultures.

For example, there are 4 different definitions of the word love in Greek, Sanskrit has 96 words for love; ancient Persian has 80

Words have meaning and meanings mean specific things.

Otherwise, there is no objective truth.

But I've been trying to convince religious people that for decades.

Gal,

Not that I don't like the KJV. I just don't try to read it. Some Christians put the KJV on a pedestal.

I mean...as if God chose English to be the official Christian language.

I'm a little radical I guess because I don't really accept the idea any translation from Greek and Hebrew can be infallible like some people believe. They are translations of another language afterall.

This particular Bible is KJV probably because it is in the public domain and free.

NKJV is nice. The opinion is you should look at a variety of translations.

I purchased this one for my collection.

No single English translation will ever represent the original biblical languages perfectly. Why? In part because the Bible's ancient languages do not function like English. A word in Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic might not have an exact English word to match.

Lamp,

A marketing gimmick.

Some people appreciate the mixing of the 2 into a single book. Nothing wrong with it.

It's still honoring the Bible and frankly maybe someone will pick it up and read it.

The complaint about multiple translations is silly; historians specializing in ancient texts modify translations as they get new information, usually copies that are older than what they had before.

BUT if anyone really wants to know understand the NT, for instance, it would behoof them not to get caught up in 500 plus year old translations, which aren't very good to begin with, and also incorporate 500 plus year old concepts in understanding the texts.

Probably considered the best modern scholar of the NT, by other scholars of ancient texts and theologians in general, is N. T. Wright.

He has written many books and there are videos of his lectures and interviews on yt.

en.wikipedia.org

As far as the Trump retread bible goes, linking it to white nationalism is a sales gimmick to attract money.... you know, the love of which is the, "root of all evil".

The NT is quite precise; the form of Greek it was written in died not long after, so it didn't change over the centuries.

But understanding the concepts the words reflected of the people who wrote them is what made Prof Wright the leading scholar on the subject.

Ask the evangeliturds about that premise.

The NT is strong in taking care of your fellow man etc however most christians would hate Jesus if he returned.

"But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God."

Religion may have started for noble reasons. My opinion is that it started as a way to enforce laws such as don't steal or kill when the local law enforcement authorities were scarce at best. In the centuries since it has been perverted into an organized crime enterprise. If churches want to influence public policy it's time to tax the churches.

The New Testament is also full of violence and suffering, violence (and a lot of weird ----) which was/is condoned by Jesus himself apparently.

Also did you know there are probably thousands of self help books out there now?

Also written by humans just like the Bible was. Who now have the knowledge of the ages to drawn upon.

With a lot less violence and suffering in them than the "bible" has.

What JC and Paul supported, as they both said the same thing, is to not condemn those people who you consider to be, "condoning and supporting (or living) sinful lifestyles.".

Much less try to use the Gov and the force of Law to enforce your beliefs.

Because you are not perfect either, in whatever ways, and all imperfection misses the mark of perfection. Also, that with whatever condemnation you use against others, you will suffer the same condemnation yourself.

My old Pastor had an example of God's view: Shaq and Danni DeVito are standing at the bottom of the Empire State Building. From the view on the top floor, you can't tell which is which... their height, or their sin, all look pretty much the same.

Sin is just a man made concept created by the religulous to exert control over the weak minded. Many things that were considered sins by the religulous are no longer considered sins. How can that be?

That's because the so-called "sins" of the religulous are relative to time and space.

Can you name one that's better and why they are "better"? Do they think they are better or is it just you that thinks they are better? Anyway I have been "better" myself at certain times in my life. Sometimes worse!

Pretty sure if you think you are "better" than others then you are doing it wrong.

We are all come from the same "source". And I would bet we are all going right back there when we die. Whatever you choose to call it.

We are all the same just with different perspectives based on where and when (and what bodily or environmental restrictions) we find ourselves in.

Quantum mechanics teaches us that everything is relative to your perspective and the space-time is that you find yourself in.

Okay, answer why YOU as an evangelical can support Trump, the anthesis of everything Jesus taught in the Beatitudes or Matthew 25: 31-46.

PS - I grew up in an evangelical church. I call myself a "Red Print Christian" because THAT's where the teachings of Christ are found. In other words, I'm not a "cafeteria Christian" who picks what he wants and uses other parts of the Bible as justification NOT to do what Christ taught.

Like all Trump merchandising schemes, this one is cringey and tacky and represents the greed, the grift and the grotesque that's wrong with Trumpism. The God Bless the USA Bible is obviously and squarely aimed at Trump's existing base of true believers. But it is also attempting to hide, in soft-focus God-and-country pabulum, Trump's more sinister goals of exacting revenge and obliterating the rights and freedoms of anyone who is not on board with him ruling America with an iron fist, with the Christian right at his side.

Trump knows that his supporters believe God ordained America as a Christian nation.

The people most likely to want a Trump-branded Bible, presented with a blasphemous kitsch factor on par with a Jesus bobblehead, are Trump's evangelical base. Surely Trump knows that most of them already have their own Bibles, but he's counting on a good chunk of them forking over $59.99 (plus shipping) to have a version of God's word endorsed by the arbiter of the "correct" or "only" Bible: the person they admire as much as or more than Jesus himself.

@#145 ... 'd like to know what the Bible sold for before Trump endorsed it? ...

Interesting question.

Were the sales so poor that the company behind the Bible reached out to fmr Pres Trump for an endorsement?

And fmr Pres Trump agreed to attach his name for a kickback of each one sold? Similar to what he is doing with down-ballot candidates across the Nation?

It looks like Trump licensed his name to be used to sell the Bibles in the same way he licenses his name to appear on various buildings he doesn't own:

The website selling the Trump-backed Bibles specifies that none of its proceeds will go toward the Trump campaign.

The site says it "is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign."

"GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates."

Rather, it says it is licensed by CIC Ventures to use Trump's name, likeness and image.

Trump's 2023 financial disclosure shows he has made more than $5 million in speaking engagements through CIC Ventures.

Agnostic, atheist; these terms are inaccurate.
The proper terms are:

Agnostic atheist
Agnostic theist
Gnostic atheist
Gnostic theist

Nobody knows who the publisher is:

It is now unclear who the publisher and licensor of the new version is. Greenwood's publicist previously told the Nashville Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY network, that Elite Source Pro is no longer a partner on the project. He was unable to name the new licensee who is manufacturing the Bible.

End info.

" Elite Source Pro is no longer a partner on the project. " -- oh, that's not a good sign.

Typically, during a promotional campaign, those behind the campaign do not change with such ambiguity.

OK, let's take a step back here.

This is a fmr President of the United States promoting, likely selling his NIL for, some strange version of the Bible.

OK so far?

And now, those behind that promotion seem to be unable/reluctant to say who is the name of the "new licensee?"

My view at this point, there is no way i would give these people my credit card number. I mean, who would be so reckless with their financial information to give a credit card number to this apparent unknown entity?

@#158 ... The same people who buy DJT stock. ...

I'm not yet convinced to go there at this point.

Given the trading volume of DJT, the buying looks like it may be some wealthy supporter who has a few ten thousands to dispose of for, possibly, some return.

Or, there may be some other manipulation in play...

There's this...

Trump Media tells Nasdaq short sellers may be using "potential market manipulation" in DJT shares
www.cbsnews.com

... Trump Media & Technology Group is alerting the Nasdaq exchange that its stock " trading under the ticker DJT, after former President Donald Trump's initials " may be the victim of "potential market manipulation" due to short-selling activity.

The letter, which was sent Thursday to Nasdaq CEO Adena T. Friedman, claims that some traders are relying on so-called "naked" short selling, which is when an investor shorts a stock without first borrowing the shares. It's a practice that is effectively banned in the U.S., with regulators requiring trading firms to make sure that traders have the securities on hand to complete a short sale.

The complaint comes after a wild ride for Trump Media's stock since going public last month on the Nasdaq exchange. The shares lost two-thirds of their value from an initial peak, slicing billions of value from the fledgling media business, whose primary asset is the social media service Truth Social.

While Trump Media has regained some of that lost ground, rising 28% this week, some investors had complained on Truth Social that they suspected short sellers were contributing to the decline.

"Reports indicate that, as of April 3, 2024, DJT was 'by far' 'the most expensive U.S. stock to short,' meaning that brokers have a significant financial incentive to lend non-existent shares," Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes, a former Republican congressman from California, wrote to April 18 letter to the Nasdaq CEO.

Nunes asked for Nasdaq to "advise what steps you can take to foster transparency and compliance by ensuring market makers are adhering" to regulations that block naked short selling.

Shares of Trump Media rose $3.19, or 9.6%, to $36.38 on Friday.

The agencies that would regulate naked short selling include the Securities and Exchange Commission and FINRA, the financial industry regulatory authority that oversees broker-dealers, as the latter companies are those that execute short sale trades on behalf of customers. ...

In case anyone is curious which translation I am reading these days, it's the New Living Translation.

It's not the same as the Living Bible that is considered a paraphrase instead of a translation.

The NLT is considered to be a "thought by thought" translation instead of a "word by word" translation.

Personally, when it comes to the Bible I prefer something more readable.

They're generally people down on their luck hoping for something to make their lives better.

Trump has promised evangelicals everything they want with no intention of delivering.

"And then....I'm sure you wonder how can people not vote Democrat and vote for Trump....."

We don't wonder at all anymore ... we know that you all have lost your way.

Trump loves the willfully ignorant. Deplorables who have chosen to ignore the truth and reality itself.

If you can be made to believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God (and the only Word of God) then you can be convinced of pretty much anything. No matter how outrageous. Apparently.

And once you chose to put one man above the law and the constitution we had and will have no choice but to stand against you and for our constitutional democracy.

George Washington warned us that political factions might try to obstruct the execution of laws. While they will claim to act for the will of the people, their true intentions are to place more power in the hands of unprincipled men.

"Beware of Political Parties" ... they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government ... "

That's two different things. I can understand why people wouldn't vote democrat. I've not voted democrat plenty of times myself. But voting for Trump is a whole different ballgame.
What you are asking there is do people not understand how someone can vote for someone who has been found to have committed fraud on a mass scale, raped at least one woman, cheated on multiple wives, stole and refused to return classified documents, organized an insurrection for the purpose of overthrowing the US Constitution and deliberately and admittedly downplayed the seriousness of a deadly pandemic.

I'm sure you wonder how can people not vote Trump and vote for non-rapists
I'm sure you wonder how can people not vote Trump and vote for non-fraudsters
I'm sure you wonder how can people not vote Trump and vote for pro-democracy
I'm sure you wonder how can people not vote Trump and vote for protecting national secrets

I was actually contemplating something similar this morning.

Like I can understand, and even respect, many conservative things either cultural or politics:

I can understand nascar and gun right advocates (to an extent), I can understand loving country music and being religious (I cannot understand, nor do I respect, attempting to inflict religious beliefs on others). I can understand (to an extent) a sincere belief in the sanctity of a fetus. I can understand the belief in a strong military (though I strongly disagree), I can even understand having a conservative view on families and the roles of men and women-though I, again, strongly disagree with those beliefs, I get it on where they are coming from.

What I cannot understand is how ANYONE can support -------. I simply don't get it; the man is in the moral wrong about everything. If you are religious, he is the literal embodiment of the 7 deadly sins. He OBVIOUSLY lies constantly. He OBVIOUSLY serves no one but himself.

What I cannot understand is cutting one's nose off to spite one's face-say with healthcare-how can red states decline medicaid? Why would any poor person support a party that strips them of their health care. I don't get that.

Just to name a few examples.
