Trump nodded off, Hegseth having withdrawal tremors, Rubio yawning his way through, Melania making it clear she'd rather be anywhere else in the world and Ivanka showed as much interest in her daddy's fascist cosplay party as the rest of America and skipped the event entirely. I assume she went incognito to one of the hundreds of No Kings protests that drew millions of participants across the country.
It was a truly pathetic display from Dictator Don on what should have been a day that was all about honoring freedom and Army history.

@#13 ... not just that it was a birthday thing for trump/but a flag day salute to the Army. ...

From the cited article...

... What's more, preceding Trump at the lectern, Vice President JD Vance described Trump's coming remarks as "the main event" of the evening.

Despite Trump's attempts to hype the event, attendance appeared light -- there were considerably fewer people on the National Mall on Saturday than there would be for a typical Fourth of July celebration.

And attendance at Trump's parade was dwarfed by the millions who showed up at roughly 2,000 anti-Trump "No Kings" protests in cities and towns all over the country. ...

Also from the cited article ...

... Trump and his administration have claimed that the parade was actually to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Army's founding by the Continental Congress in 1775, not Trump's 79th.

It's unclear whether the Navy and the Marine Corps, branches also founded in 1775, will similarly get $45 million parades this year.

Neither Trump nor the Pentagon has mentioned any such plans. ...

Wow. I'm glad I dont live near any of you idiots. I cant imagine what life is like living near you. No one is throwing any "insult" from the military. What an ------- you are.

Since you are on the outside looking in the military, there are several marches. And also, since you obviously have never marched in formation, when the parade route is long, we do whats called "Route step", where they basically walk like you saw. Sometimes, closer to the stand to salute the commander, they move to more goose stepping you are salivating over.

What a jackass you are.

More people didn't go than went.

Our military really isn't groomed for all that choreographed marchy marchy dance routine. No shade on them... It's just our military voluntary... not compulsory so we don't have a large pool of goose stepping primates... as part of our military propaganda machine.

Fine by me.

Personally... I think the Israeli bombing didn't go as well as Trumpanzee thought it would. He was betting on the Iron Dome holding up... and a slick performance... in DC... in June... instead of highly disciplined yet wilted military personnel... doing the best they could... in a sparse showing... so now he's sputtering... because the kabooki theater he set up... prenegotiation... fell apart... with protesters upstaging him.

I expect you can find him on some golf course somewhere to sort things out...

Apparently Trump didn't follow the proper protocol for military parade routes in DC:

Erik Ledbetter
@bandoblue.bsky.social

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

The first mass parade, celebrating Union Victory in the Civil War, followed the Inaugural procession route outwards down Pennsylvania Ave. WW1 and WW2 victory parades followed the same route. 2/

Much more somber were the interment marches for the remains of Unknowns from WW1, 2, Korea and Vietnam. These began with the Unknown lying in state in the Capitol rotunda, moved down Constitution zace along the Mall, and over the Memorial Bridge to Arling Cemetary on the hill to the west. 3/

The Gulf War victory parade followed the mourning route, a break with tradition. But it still began symbolically at the seat of the People's branch of government and moved outward. Symbolically, this encodes many mutually reinforcing meetings. 4/

Among them: the military arises from the citizenry and serves the citizenry, that the citizens are thanking and welcoming the Army back to home and civic life (symbolically and often practically, these are demobilizing parades), 5/

And that (on the mourning route) we proceed from the people's thanks in their Hall past places of memory to places of eternal rest and thanks. 6/

But the symbolizing is always that having called on and drawn a military from the Citizenry, the nation is returning the servicememebers to the citizenry, or sending them to rest, with its thanks. 7/

The parade today by contrast moves west to east, outside to in. It starts at the Pentagon not Arlington National Cemetary. It follows the symbolic route of troops entering to quell or occupy the city, not leaving with love and thanks. 8/

And it ends at the White House not the Capitol. Symbolically it the route is troops called from the Barracks/General Staff to render obeisance to the King, while demonstrating how the King can call in troops to awe the cities. 9/

The symbolism is rich, robust, and deeply un-American.

We don't expect DonOLD and his know nothing adminstration to follow the protocol, but what about Army leaders who should know better?

Asha Rangappa
@asharangappa.bsky.social

There must be an office or someone at DoD who understands the symbolism and protocol of parade routes, so this has to be deliberate. The Secretary of the Army ought to be asked about this

I agree.

The US Military should not waste its time in parading around in adulation of a President's birthday.

I also note the big smiles I saw on the faces of the soldiers in the tanks as the crowd saluted them. Well-deserved, imo.

But then again, I don't call the military "suckers and losers" as Pres Trump seems to view the military.

The few that gathered to salute the military looked to appreciate the military, and those who serve. That was excellent.

'Tis a shame that Pres Trump tried to turn his event into an adulation of him.

I don't know whose idea it was to parade in retro uniforms and battledress/fatigues.

But on the surface the parade looked slovenly. Not at all crisp and parade like.

I've seen our parades look a lot better. Soldiers stationed in Germany give parades all the time and they've got it down.

Perhaps lessons are in order.

I actually think it's great that the Army parade and the "No Kings" protest happened on the same day.

The contrast couldn't have been clearer and it exposed a deeper truth.

One side honors service, sacrifice, and country.

It showed just how out of touch much of the far left really is.

I know from personal experience that this is called 'route step', and it's how soldiers have been trained to march, while staying in formation, but who are expected to cover a relatively long distance. I know Trump was expecting something like what you'd see at a North Korean military parade, but American soldiers are NOT trained for that sort of exhibition style marching.

The military thumped their noses at Trump and Hegseth:

Was Someone Trolling Trump by Playing Creedence's Draft-Dodger-Slamming Fortunate Son' at His Military Parade? Or Is It Just the Further Death of Irony?

... the repeated playing of Creedence Clearwater Revivals classic "Fortunate Son" " a song that virtually the entire world knows by now was written during the Vietnam era as a slam against wealthy draft dodgers. The assumption being made by at least a few tweeters was that this had to be some kind of deliberate trolling of the president by someone on the music selection team who just has it in for him. Because if you were going to make a top 10 list of songs that Trump should not want to have played at any of his events " but most of all not at a military-themed ceremony " "Fortunate Son" would certainly be No. 1.

In 2020, in fact, no less a figure than the song's author, John Fogerty (a military veteran), directly made the connection between Trump and the rich kids who got out of the draft that he was writing about back in the day. "It seems like he is probably the Fortunate Son," Fogerty said at the time. There could hardly be a worse insult.

I'm looking forward to "In the Navy" by the Village People for the Marine/Navy parade. I bet that'll get Trump out of seat doing the double jerk hand dance!

"What a jackass you are.

#25 | POSTED BY BOAZ " Ohh, sure dumbass, a company of soldiers alway march in "Route step" while passing in front of the POTUS.
Those G.I.s were showing that they do not care to be pawns in one fat orange treasonous pig faced grifting traitor's politics. No class A uniforms or brass to shine and boots to polish as their wore their work clothes tells me a lot. The Army hated this shit from the get go you dunce and showed the world what they thought about that fucking traitor by putting absolutely no effort what so ever into this farce of a fascist event.

"I know from personal experience that this is called 'route step', and it's how soldiers have been trained to march, while staying in formation, but who are expected to cover a relatively long distance. I know Trump was expecting something like what you'd see at a North Korean military parade, but American soldiers are NOT trained for that sort of exhibition style marching.

Every single soldier in the US Army has to learn to march and does so for weeks in while in Basic Training and have a large company level parade when they graduate. They wear their best class A uniforms and spend weeks getting ready for the event. These guys and gals that TRump was bullying put no effort into it so as to make a point to that pig in POTUS to say "we are not your fucking political pawns to play with to intimidate our own fellow citizens." That's what it looked like to me.

Wild,

"We are not your fucking political pawns."

You clearly don't understand military culture.

The soldiers didn't choose to march in route step. They were ordered to.

That decision comes from the top, not the troops.

Marching in that parade was an honor for them, and they wouldn't have disrespected themselves or their uniform.

To suggest otherwise says more about you than it does about them.

Yes, and that's on a parade ground, generally no more than a football field in length. Try marching like that for over a mile, which was the span of Constitution Avenue that was designated as the viewing area where spectators were allowed to gather to watch the parade.

And before you ask, yes, I learned to march like what you're talking about. In fact, I was a member of an Army exhibition drill team, so we knew how to stay in step while performing specific moves, including various formations which sometimes involved spinning, tossing or exchanging riles while we were on the move.
