Things got crazy awkward during an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, when a reporter asked Trump why he hadn't warned Japan before attacking Iran. "One thing, you don't want to signal too much," Trump said. "Who knows better about surprise than Japan, okay? Hey, why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"

I wouldn't have blamed her for standing up and walking out.

Does he even know what that eventually cost Japan?

Trump's such an embarassment

It's funny because Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is a far right ultraconservative nationalist.

You know, like Trump.

Except she's not wearing a diaper.

He can't keep himself from being rude, and in a creepy way.

Ask a 13 year old girl.

Imperial Japan intended to honorably deliver their formal declaration of war to the US before beginning their attack on US ships in Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1041.

Japanese planes attacked on Sunday 7 December 1941, 0748 HOURS Hawaiian Time (HT) or 1248 HOURS in Washington DC (Eastern Time Zone).

"Due to bureaucratic delays, decoding issues, and last-minute translations, the final version of the note was not delivered to US Secretary of State Cordell Hull until after the attack had already begun (around 1400 HOURS Washington time, or 0800 HOURS on 6 December in Japan)."

The Japanese pilots took off and attacked the docked and unguarded US ships at Pearl Harbor without knowing the declaration of war was not received.

American Military Hero

Nevertheless:

The US military knew in 1925 that Pearl Harbor was the likely target of any attack by any power in the Pacific region (i.e. Imperial Japan).

Dummkopf Trumpf is still an emperor jackass.

I remember something about the Japanese ambassador to the U.S. (an admiral?) - who was against attacking the U.S. - denying the Japanese military was planning the attack?

How are you, American Unity?

A Japanese admiral was against attacking the US, made famous by the line: "Now we have awakened a sleeping giant" in the film Tora! Tora! Tora!

After the Meiji Period, Japan sent Defense Attaches, spies, delegates all over the world to learn from the West.

Tokyo knew who was powerful and who wasn't.

The Japanese basically copied the UK's surprise attack on Italian ships at Taranto (1940).

Japan, like Italy's powerful OVRA, had an excellent espionage service which makes another book recommendation for you:

I own two copies of this book/b>

I'll check it out. Thanks. I try keep a 50-50 balance for reading fiction-nonfiction.

Many years ago, I read great book about the attack on Pearl Harbor - considered the gold standard - "At Dawn We Slept."

It was abridged from several exhaustively researched volumes, telling the tale from both sides (including accounts based on interviews with Japanese and Americans) about the planning and execution of the attack. I can HIGHLY recommended it!

I can't remember the ambassador's name, but IIRC he was misled as well.

Meanwhile, our wet, squishy fart of a president mouth-farted in bad taste with the Japanese PM sitting 3' away.

President Donald Trump belittled the Japanese Prime Minister to her face, laughing about her English. Something he's said to other world leaders.

How many foreign languages does Trump speak? 0
