Things got crazy awkward during an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, when a reporter asked Trump why he hadn't warned Japan before attacking Iran. "One thing, you don't want to signal too much," Trump said. "Who knows better about surprise than Japan, okay? Hey, why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"

I wouldn't have blamed her for standing up and walking out.

Does he even know what that eventually cost Japan?

Trump's such an embarassment

It's funny because Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is a far right ultraconservative nationalist.

You know, like Trump.

Except she's not wearing a diaper.

Imperial Japan intended to honorably deliver their formal declaration of war to the US before beginning their attack on US ships in Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1041.

Japanese planes attacked on Sunday 7 December 1941, 0748 HOURS Hawaiian Time (HT) or 1248 HOURS in Washington DC (Eastern Time Zone).

"Due to bureaucratic delays, decoding issues, and last-minute translations, the final version of the note was not delivered to US Secretary of State Cordell Hull until after the attack had already begun (around 1400 HOURS Washington time, or 0800 HOURS on 6 December in Japan)."

The Japanese pilots took off and attacked the docked and unguarded US ships at Pearl Harbor without knowing the declaration of war was not received.

American Military Hero

Nevertheless:

The US military knew in 1925 that Pearl Harbor was the likely target of any attack by any power in the Pacific region (i.e. Imperial Japan).

Dummkopf Trumpf is still an emperor jackass.

I remember something about the Japanese ambassador to the U.S. (an admiral?) - who was against attacking the U.S. - denying the Japanese military was planning the attack?

#6 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2026-03-19 03:56 PM | Reply

How are you, American Unity?

A Japanese admiral was against attacking the US, made famous by the line: "Now we have awakened a sleeping giant" in the film Tora! Tora! Tora!

After the Meiji Period, Japan sent Defense Attaches, spies, delegates all over the world to learn from the West.

Tokyo knew who was powerful and who wasn't.

The Japanese basically copied the UK's surprise attack on Italian ships at Taranto (1940).

Japan, like Italy's powerful OVRA, had an excellent espionage service which makes another book recommendation for you:

I own two copies of this book/b>

I'll check it out. Thanks. I try keep a 50-50 balance for reading fiction-nonfiction.

Many years ago, I read great book about the attack on Pearl Harbor - considered the gold standard - "At Dawn We Slept."

It was abridged from several exhaustively researched volumes, telling the tale from both sides (including accounts based on interviews with Japanese and Americans) about the planning and execution of the attack. I can HIGHLY recommended it!

I can't remember the ambassador's name, but IIRC he was misled as well.

Meanwhile, our wet, squishy fart of a president mouth-farted in bad taste with the Japanese PM sitting 3' away.

President Donald Trump belittled the Japanese Prime Minister to her face, laughing about her English. Something he's said to other world leaders.

December 7, 1941, is a day that will live in infamy because Japan attacked us without a declaration of war, without warning and during negotiations.
We did that to Iran TWICE
Our president jokes with the Japanese Prime Minister about this.
It is not like the Japanese are EXTREMELY sensitive to any perceived slight.

Japan has been one of our closest allies since their unconditional surrender at the end of WWII.

This just shows that Pres Trump seems to be out of his league when on the World Stage.

He's playing in the minor leagues, while our allies are playing in the majors.

2028 will see Empty Suit Marco Rubio versus Hillbilly Hypocrite JD Vance in the Republican primaries.

Mega-oligarch Larry Ellison will back the intergalactically vapid Marco Rubella, while mega-oligarch Peter Thiel will support unpopular JV Dunce.

My guess is they will decide behind closed doors who will run and the other will get a top cabinet position or veep. Supposedly they have become good friends. And while that can change in politics, the one big advantage the GOP should have in 2028 is not having to dedicate resources to a primary fight.

Perry showed up in Japan because the US wanted Japan to open its country... or else.

No Declaration of War from Congress. But, Perry was ready to use military force. Nothing changes.

"Perry was ready to use military force."

We made the Japanese an offer they couldn't refuse.
We did the same thing in Korea, and a few hundred people died.
Funny how we don't teach the Korea one in grade school.

The Battle of Ganghwa was fought during the 1871 United States expedition to Korea, a conflict between Joseon and the United States. In May of that year, five Asiatic Squadron warships set sail from Japan to ascertain what happened to the crew of the SS General Sherman as well as to establish a trade treaty with the Hermit Kingdom similar to the one Commodore Perry had pressured Japan into adopting in the early 1850s. When American forces arrived in Korea, the originally peaceful mission turned into a battle when guns from a Korean fort suddenly opened fire on the Americans. The battle to capture Ganghwa Island's forts was the largest engagement of the conflict.

You would be surprised, of course, because you are an idiot.

So. Perfectly understandable.

Meanwhile back in reality land..

Many in Japan found the comment inappropriate, particularly as they have grown accustomed to American presidents avoiding harsh discussions of Pearl Harbor in favor of focusing on reconciliation, per The New York Times. archive.is

Takaichi herself received backlash in Japan for not responding to the joke and for her attempts to flatter Trump later that day, with some commentators calling her approach "embarrassing".

" So you're saying the 2028 Republican primaries will be a sham?"

I guess it depends on how one defines "sham". I think it will likely be Vance, or possibly Rubio and anyone else who throws their hats in the ring will be outliers with no chance.

The Democrat party does a much better job of putting its thumbs on the scales in favor of the party's favored candidate. In 2016 had Trump ran as a Democrat, he would have gotten the Bernie Sanders treatment. The GOP watched him hijack their party in 2016 and did absolutely nothing at an institutional level to stop it.

It wasn't the Prime Minister.

It was a Japanese reporter who, frankly, set herself up with this question.

"Why didn't the U.S. warn allies like Japan before striking Iran?"

Calling out Trump for what he did. He dished it back.

So what?

**** Dummkopf Trumpf: "I'm healthier than the US Navy football champions" ****

"He said I'm the healthiest human being he's ever seen," Trumpf (79) bleated. "Ronny " am I healthier than these guys back here?"

"Yes, sir," Jackson shouted.

"See, this is why I like him," Trumpf responded.

The morbidly obese geriatric silver-spooned wife-cheating pedophilic POTUS sniveled that that the former WH physician said:

"If he didn't eat junk food, he'd live to 200 years old. I love this guy."
