Saturday, September 20, 2025

For researchers who examine how online culture manifests in the real world, this evidence strongly reinforces their analysis that Kirk's alleged shooter was obsessed with what some call the "performance of violence." They say that the use of online memes that are inscrutable to a general public likely was intended not to signal any political tendencies. Rather, these were meaningless in-group jokes primarily circulated among young, extremely online gamers; and, they are emulative of other acts of violence that have succeeded in stirring up discourse.

"If this guy had any clear intention, any clear operational goal, the fact that you, me and a ton of other people are sitting around and going, what does this dumb stuff [that] this 22-year old, online-poisoned, goober wrote on a bullet casing have to say about his politics?" said Elliot Chandler, a counter-extremism researcher. "Hey, mission accomplished, man. Like, hey--he got us."

PBS News is doing more to expose the facts than the FBI ...

Many young extremists who grew up on social media and never knew life without school shootings now see public violence as a way to go viral.

So the chaotic confusion we are seeing right now is possibly by design.

According to people familiar with the matter, who were not named in the report, the use of Trump's name is part of Robinson's broader digital footprint being looked at.

His Steam account, which has been active for 11 years, includes thousands of logged gaming hours and links to an account believed to belong to his partner, per the report.

Robinson's account is said to have showed heavy engagement with online communities and subcultures.

OpEd - PERSPECTIVE: The Real Threat to Democracy Isn't One Act of Violence. It's Our Reaction
www.hstoday.us

... The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a jarring, deeply painful moment for the country"no matter where you fall on the political spectrum. Tragedy invites emotion. That's human.

But history warns us: the greater threat to our democracy often isn't the act of one individual -- it's how the rest of us respond.

"If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher."
-- Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln knew that America's undoing wouldn't come at the hands of a foreign army -- it would come from within. From division. From fury masquerading as justice. From mobs who believe their cause is righteous enough to burn the rules down.

"There is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law."
-- Lincoln again

In the days of Lincoln, a mob meant fire in the streets.

Today, it can mean fire online"viral outrage that moves faster than facts, punishes with no due process, and multiplies the worst instincts of the crowd.

The digital mob doesn't need torches. A trending hashtag can destroy reputations, fuel conspiracy theories, or incite real-world violence in a matter of hours.

In many ways, it's more dangerous than a mob in the square"because it feels bloodless, distant, and justified.

The Founders saw this coming in their own way.

"Liberty is to faction what air is to fire ... "
-- James Madison, Federalist No. 10

They knew that freedom would naturally give rise to conflict"and that's not a flaw, it's the design. But when factionalism is fed by unchecked emotion and echo chambers, it turns combustible. The purpose of our Constitution was to contain those flames"not fan them.

Even George Washington, in his Farewell Address, warned that the endless back-and-forth domination of opposing factions could rot a republic from the inside. He called it what it was: a "frightful despotism."

This is not a moment for escalation, for vengeance, or for gleeful tribal score-settling.

That's not justice. That's collapse. ...

"Accused Kirk shooter used "Donald Trump" alias on Steam

Also of interest: "The report further noted that other games Robinson played frequently included Pictopix, Deep Rock Galactic, Viscera Cleanup Detail (a game where players clean up sci-fi carnage) and PowerWash Simulator."

I am not sure how the MAGA set will turn this into a "radical liberalization," but be ready."

So apparently "Donald Trump" was all over Steam and other sites.

Senator Urges Valve to Address Extremist, Hateful' Content on Steam
Updated November 17, 2024

Sen. Mark Warner says lax enforcement of rules by social media platforms leads to toxic social environments that elevate harassment and abuse.'

Senator Mark Warner has urged leadership at Valve to respond to allegations that 1.8 million pieces of extremist or hateful content have been identified on gaming platform Steam.

In a recent report, the ADL's Center on Extremism (COE) claims to have identified 1.5 million unique users and over 73,000 groups who used at least one piece of potentially extremist or hateful content.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization founded to combat antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, claims it included more than 458 million profiles, 152 million profile and group avatar images, and 610 million comments in its dataset.

Pepe the Frog and swastikas are allegedly the most common extremist symbols spreading on the platform, accounting for 54.6% and 9.1% of the detected symbols, respectively.

The ADL claims it also identified 15,000 public accounts using symbols from ISIS, Hezbollah, and Hamas in their profile pics. The group also claims to have identified "hundreds of accounts" using images of terrorist attackers like Anders Breivik, who killed 69 people in an attack on a summer camp in Norway in 2011.

The organization also highlighted cases of users posting extremism-linked content on Steam before committing attacks of real-life violence, such as an 18-year-old white supremacist who attacked a cafe in Turkey in August. In addition, it found 18,352 groups that had potentially extremist or hateful keywords on their group profiles, such as "shekel" and "white power."

Charlie boy has been wearing Pepe the Frog costumes since he was 14.

www.reddit.com

"Squatting low in a black tracksuit and with a flat cap pulled over his eyes, Tyler Robinson looks at first glance like any other teenager.

But to the niche and often dark corners of the internet where Mr Robinson appears to have spent much of his time, the suspect in the Charlie Kirk killing is performing a so-called slouched "Slav squat".

The pose and the clothes he is wearing in the photo, shared proudly by his mother, form the basis of an internet meme that has long been associated with the far-Right."

Yikes, as a society we've become blase to mass shootings, so political shootings may be the best way for shooters to make a name for themselves and to be remembered:

Senters said he worries that the duration of discussion about Robinson, his potential political leanings and a motive, may have illustrated a more potent way for aspirants to this disturbing legacy.

"If you look at how long we've been talking about the Charlie Kirk shooting, there is perhaps a worrisome thought that can form that, oh, if someone is looking to sort of make their name in this online shooter space, then maybe a targeted political shooting is now a better way to do that than a mass shooting," he said, "because we've become so sort of like inculcated to the tragedy of mass shootings that [they take] up space and the mass discourse for a handful of days before we all move on to the next thing."

Valve Corp.'s Steam video-game platform

There's a difference between the platform and its forums. Which was full of Trans and TransDIY, as I stated.

For instance Tyler Robinson played the "Furry Shades of Gay" porn video game.

The Trump administration.

Who was Charlie Kirk speaking out against just prior to his assassination?

Isreal and the Trump administration.

After years of spreading hate against liberals, transgenders homosexuals and progressives. Charlie Kirk spoke out against Trump and Israel and proceeds to die two days later.

It's not a coincidence.

Liberals and progressive didn't kill Charlie Kirk.

Netanyahu and Donald Trump killed Charlie Kirk.

The 'funniest' aspect of any analysis is how it demonstrates both how out of touch the older generation is with how the younger generation views the internet and statements made on the internet, AND how out of touch the younger generation is with the older generation that tries to view all statements on the internet maturely, logically and seriously. Wake up old people. The internet is a global playground for people under 30. Nothing they say is necessarily based on truth, logic or anything other than humor and getting lots of clicks on what they post. It's a social playground where consistency and courtesy all take a back seat for ever evolving pop culture. Which is one way of saying, anyone who looks to what Tyler Robinson posted on the internet for insight into his "deeper" or "more mature" political views is a fool. Just another STUPID child of the internet.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who m***dered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
"In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving. On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this."

The comedian quipped to this, "Yes, he's at the fourth stage of grief, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the m**der of someone he called a friend."

"There's something wrong with him, there really is. Who thinks like that?"

There it is. All of it

BTW, what Trump was really mad about is what Kimmel said about him:

This is what Kimmel said:

We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.

In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving. On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this.

He then showed a clip of a reporter asking Trump how he was holding up in the wake of Kirk's death.

"I think very good," Trump replied. "And by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get, as you know, for about 150 years, and it's gonna be a beauty."

"Yes, he's at the fourth stage of grief: construction," Kimmel said. "Demolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish."

Tucker Carlson was let go because he cost Fox News $787 million dollars for his baseless lies about Dominion Voting Systems. The United States government had nothing to do with Fox's decision.

Roseanne was fired due to a tweet, and while I didn't support her being fired, the United States government had nothing to do with ABC's decision.

Kimmel was fired because he said Trump and MAGA were desperate to paint the shooter as not one of them - which Jeff interpreted as Kimmel saying the shooter is MAGA. Donald Trump's head of the FCC threatened Disney to fire Kimmel or have their broadcasting license suspended.

#119 | Posted by BellRinger

You are following the RW spin on his comments and on what he planned to say the next night:

Kimmel "was planning to say that his words were being purposefully twisted by some members of the Make America Great Again movement," the Journal reported.

Kimmel had planned to address the controversy in his Wednesday monologue, according to The Wall Street Journal. But Disney Entertainment co-Chair Dana Walden, a top Kimmel ally, believed his planned remarks "could make the situation worse."

www.yahoo.com

Kimmel was going to clarify his original comment by explaining how what he said/meant is not what the RW was saying he said/meant. If you call that doubling down, then I guess he was going to bur not in the way you are stating. Is the RW interpreting his comments, the way you do. Yep. Is that the only way to interpret them? Nope. Is the way you are interprting his comments, the way he intended them, again, ho, accoringing to Kimmel:

Jimmy Kimmel Did Not Say Exactly What You Think He Said

Jimmy Kimmel's comment about the Charlie Kirk shooting suspect was a mess, and a miss, which gets less clear the more you look at it.

The overwhelming read on this has been: Jimmy Kimmel said, or at least strongly suggested, that Robinson was MAGA. That's been the contention of countless conservatives and plenty of not-so-conservatives. And the facts about Robinson released by authorities so far suggest the suspect was not, in fact, MAGA (according to The New York Times, his mother told prosecutors that her son had recently shifted toward the political left and had become "more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented," among other details about the suspect).

But let's take a close look at this section: " ... .the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them ... ."

As part of a sentence, this is so blurry that your eyes cross trying to get it. Kimmel doesn't actually say "this kid" was "one of them." You could read it a different way: Robinson wasn't MAGA, and therefore MAGA is out there trying to characterize him as something else. Or even: Who knows if Robinson was or wasn't MAGA, either way MAGA is trying to score points based on his politics.

Kimmel himself would seem to be of this opinion. In Hollywood Reporters latest story detailing how the suspension went down behind the scenes, Kimmel is said to have been "defending what he said [as] being grossly mischaracterized by a certain group of people."

That said, it's also reasonable to read the comment the way most are taking it. The snarky tone. The use of "desperately." Kimmel's well-established anti-MAGA stance. The debate around the killer's motives, which have seen others on the left attempt to insist he's a conservative. All this context make it natural to assume Kimmel simply meant, "Hey, we all know this kid is MAGA and now MAGA is out there trying to convince everyone he isn't." That was, admittedly, the whole vibe (and was how I took it). Yet its clunky wording make this line into a Rorschach test the more you look at it. There is some element of presumption--a bit of connective tissue formed in the mind of the reader--which converts it from the exact words he said into the inflammatory conclusion that has been widely reached.

So I stand by what I said ealier

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
This is what both sides do after every mass or political shooting, especially immediately after the shootings when the shooter's motivation is usually not known, but even beyond that when evidence indicates otherwise or is inconclusive.

Now, if he was a reporter rather than a comedian should he have gone on to point out that Democrats were likewise trying to deny the kid was one of theirs and were also tyring to score political points? Yes, and if he was a really good reporter, he would have put the left-right finger pointing in the context of something that happens after just about every mass or political shooting. But he isn't a reporter. He's a comedian whose audience probably didn't consist of a lot of MAGA voters.

Did you see what Trump said to ABC reporter Jon Karl over the weekend?:

President Donald Trump lashed out at ABC News Jonathan Karl on Tuesday, after the network correspondent asked him about Attorney General Pam Bondis vow to go after those who engage in "hate speech" following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

"A lot of your allies say that hate speech is free speech," Karl said to Trump.

"She'll probably go after people like you, because you treat me so unfairly," Trump replied. "You have a lot of hate in your heart. Maybe they will come after ABC. ABC paid me $16 million recently for a form of hate speech. Your company paid me $16 million for a form of hate speech, so maybe they will have to go after you."

Trump wants all news networks to be like Fox News, but even they don't get a total pass from him. For example, he wants them to fire their pollster because he doesn't like the results of their polls:

President Donald Trump told Fox News on Thursday that it has the "worst" polling after hearing about lackluster approval numbers.

In an interview with Fox News' Martha MacCallum on "The Story," Trump lashed out at the anchor for reporting on poor polling numbers on the economy. She cited a recent poll from Fox News, which showed that 52% of voters said the economy is worse under Trump's administration.

MacCallum asked Trump when Americans are going to see better numbers on the economy before he blasted Fox News.

"Well, when the factories start opening. I mean, right now we're building them," Trump responded. "And you know, Fox polling, I have to tell you, I've told you before, it's the worst polling I've ever had."

"I mean, during the election, they had me winning by a little bit, not by a by a massive amount, and Fox polling, I've told Rupert Murdoch, go get yourself a new pollster, because he stinks. And this is for years now," he added.

Trump is out of control. He wants everyone in our society to bow down to him, to say only good things about him, to never question or challenge him on anything. No checks and balances are allowed. We have a crazy, out of control narcissist running our country.

But it didn't occur in a vacuum.

Mr Free Speech himself reaching for the justifications.

Is there any belief you've claimed to hold that isn't conditional on partisan politics?

BREAKING: Kimmel Show To Return Tomorrow Night

Possibly too little too late.

Disney+ and Hulu cancellations have really hit Disney where it hurts. In the pocketbook.

Guess Disney has decided to take in the FCC rather than keep losing money.

Not sure many will return.

#158 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-09-22 03:57 PM | Reply

Disney and ABC will bring the comedian back to its schedule starting Tuesday night. "Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive," "the company said in a statement. "We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."

I waited to see what Bob Iger decided.

Though I may still cancel Disney/Hulu yet. It's not over until it's over.

And it definitely is not over.

right.....but it looks worse when it's the press being silenced rather than a comedian.

POSTED BY EBERLY

Not to me. History teaches us to not give an inch to wannabe dictators or wannabe Kings. You give them an inch they will take a mile.

Any violations of the first amendment or censorship is a slippery slope. If authoritarian leaders get away with it they just crack down even further.

Authoritarian "Strongmen" like Putin or Orban went after the comedians first. After Putin was successful at that he sent in masked armed men and they took over the whole station and forced them to sell it to a Kremlin friendly oligarch.

An NTV comedy puppet show called Kukly was cancelled in 2002 after its creators, journalist Viktor Shenderovich and producer Vasily Grigoryev, and the channel's owner Vladimir Gusinsky were targeted by Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin. Shenderovich, who later became an outspoken Kremlin critic, fled Russia in 2022 after being labeled a "foreign agent".

At least our comedians are not being forced to flee the country.

Yet.

The idiot does nothing but post lies, misinformation and propaganda.

#128 | Posted by ClownShack

I know. What I find most irritating is that they don't even care when they get caught lying. They just move on to the next lie. They whine so much about censorship because they don't want to lose their free ability to disseminate lies and misinformation. Because lying feels like about 90 percent of what some of them do.

They're following Trump's lead.

So is the rest of the Republican Party.

Poorly informed people are incredibly easy to manipulate.

The statistics from the 2024 election between who college educated people voted for and who non-educated people for is staggering.

Also explains why Republicans hate college so much.

Smart people don't fall for their lies as easily as the poorly educated.

That's why Trump loves the poorly educated
