Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, October 09, 2025

David Wallace-Wells: "ICE goes masked for a single reason " to terrorize Americans into quiescence," a federal judge, William Young, wrote in a blistering 161-page First Amendment ruling handed down last week. "In all our history we have never tolerated an armed masked secret police," he continued. The judge, a Reagan appointee, compared immigration agents to "cowardly desperados and the despised Ku Klux Klan" and declared that federal efforts to deport outspoken protesters amounted to a "full-throated assault" on freedom of speech."

ICE's budget for the 2025 fiscal year is now set to roughly triple from the year before, as is its number of deportation officers.

My memories of the 1967 March on the Pentagon have faded over the years, but some remain pretty vivid. After being in the crowd I moved to a more elevated spot and observed as the scene unfolded, leaving when a few bozos attempted to charge the building. Through it all you were talking in excess of 50,000 anti war demonstrators, troops and other federal officers. Rifles were out, flowers shoved down some barrels. It was an apprehensive sort of situation. And yet, throughout, I never once saw a soldier or marshal disguising their identity behind a mask. I did some searching this morning on the google machine and, nope, no masks (other than visors on helmets or gas masks for tear gas).

There is only one valid reason for ICE goons to wear masks: they do not want to be held responsible for their behavior.

"ICE needs to be doxxed [sic]."

You can't have it both ways. If you don't want law enforcement to wear masks, you shouldn't give them a reason to.

A counterargument is that doxing (the correct spelling) was not as prevalent nor as easy as it is today.

They are enforcing federal policy.

ICE is usurping federal policy from coast to coast. Americans have the right to defend themselves and their property. They should stand their ground and defend themselves and their neighbors. As soon as ICE enters their places of business, veihicles and domiciles, the agents of the federal government should be met with lethal resistance. Liberty over safety.

It's not a problem.

They should be doxed.

Judges, Prosecutors, and Law Enforcement are all known. They don't get to hide who they are. Hell, they get posted with names on the government websites and big smiling pictures so you know what they look like.

When Law Enforcement makes an arrest, they have to write up a little report about what happened, who was there, etc. It's all out in the open as much as possible. Body cam footage becomes available even.

ICE shouldn't be treated differently.

The way I see it, it's no different than when US aviators at overseas bases used to cover their faces and remove any sort of identifying features. Let you wind up on an ISIS or Al-qaeda hit list, which many of my friends and co-workers did.

Were US aviators engaging in police activity against other US base personnel?
Did they cover their faces to prevent other US personnel from knowing their identities?

To those who support ICE covering their faces and refusing to identify, I ask you this. How would you feel if your local police were allowed to do that? Would you be pleased with the thought that you would have no way of knowing if the cops you are funding are on the Brady List?

A retired libertarian (meaning white Republican in his late fifties or early sixties) enjoying Germany with its ample constitutional protection from polizei abuse, strict gun control laws, universal healthcare, PX/Commissary/Space A travel privileges, and TriCare accessibility, is lecturing Americans who have to deal with ICE and the Dummkopf Trumpf nightmare.

ICE shouldn't be dealing with Americans, and the illegal aliens have no right to know the identity of a federal officer. Every single one of them would file a frivolous complaint. Those who aren't supposed to be in this country are being deported and the sooner everyone accepts that, the better off we will be.

Recent developments under the second Trump administration have intensified these incidents, with multiple reports of U.S. citizens, including children and disabled veterans, being wrongfully arrested, detained, and deported, often during mass enforcement operations." --AI

If so, then you can make the argument she should not have been deported, although the standards for legal residency are a function of policy. And policy can change.

Then what you are arguing is that the US should have an open-border policy. That's fine, that's a policy discussion. I'm sure that the millions of US citizens coming into the US every day and having to suffer through long lines and passport control would enjoy not having to do that. But, whatever the policy is, it needs to be enforced. With regards to your argument, I'm not even sure where it would lead. Mom is still an illegal immigrant. No jury has ruled any such thing. If I am wrong shoe is the court docket.

In 2024, Babbitt's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the U.S. government, alleging negligence.

However, in May 2025, the DOJ (TRUMPY'S DOJ) reached a settlement with the family to resolve the suit.

This civil settlement is separate from the criminal and internal police investigations and does not represent an admission of fault by the government.

See, this is why you will never have any real credibility.

Yes she had a small folding pocket knife.

Which took you what? Four years to admit?

But it wasn't found until the autopsy because she never brandished it.

Regardless federal law says it was illegal to have that knife on Capitol grounds.

The officer had no ground to stand on because he didn't know she had a knife when he shot her.

The officer shot her because she failed to listen to orders. Not because of the knife. It was ruled a legally justified shooting.

You've been told this and I've posted you the sources at least twice.

You been told this dozens of times posted the sources and yet you still continue to lie.

In summary, while Ashli Babbitt was not "unarmed" because she possessed a knife, the legality of that knife is secondary to the investigation into the officer's use of force, which focused on the reasonable perception of threat in the moment.

Go find and harass brown people?

Those people are stupid and racist.

For the second time:
George Floyd was under arrest and in handcuffs in the back of a police car, when police removed him from the car and murdered him.

If Ashli Babbit had been shot while breaking into an ICE facility or college campus, most of you progressives would have lost your minds.

At least admit the double standard.

George did.

How many people does ICE need to kill before we're all even over Ashley Babbit?

And how much did those two girls getting smeared across the road count towards Charlie Kirk? Are we even for that?

I know some of you are keeping score. Lfilthy, What do you say?

Seriously? You think that whataboutisms are some kind of justification? Me thinks you have been around the Germans too long. You have apparently forgotten what it means to be American.

Protests are one thing. Violent riots are another. Protecting property is one thing. Protecting lives is another.

She had a mob of hundreds or thousands angry violent rioters right behind her. All of Congress were in danger and being threatened with physical harm including the VP.

Your analogy sucks. Try again.

Yup.

She screwed up, and died because of it. But make no mistake, the first time a protester is shot while storming an ICE facility, the response from many who frequent this site will be very different from the response to Ashli getting shot.

I'm not saying you-you seem normal and capable of objectivity. But you're somewhat unique around here.

I don't watch snuff films for a living like you do.

But are you claiming George Floyd was resisting arrest when he was already under arrest, in handcuffs, and in the back seat of a police car?

Or was it when he was being murdered while under arrest that he started resisting arrest.

Thanks in advance for clearing that up.

"a protester"

There were about five thousand protesters that day, and hundreds inside The Capitol. She wasn't acting alone.

She was the "tip of the spear".

The "tip of the spear" are always the first to get shot at and the first to die.

I afraid I would have shot her too. I am afraid if I was there on guard duty as a Marine a lot more would have been shot that day. I am just glad I wasn't there as a marine on guard duty that day.

I remember once I almost shot a helicopter out of the sky because it entered the airspace flying way too low above the nuclear ammo dump I was guarding.

The only reason I didn't was my sergeant had a cooler head.

Then there was the time I put an officers dick in the dirt with a loaded shotgun to head because he dared to approach the gate and refused to identify himself properly and show his ID.

Marines are crazy like that.

That's why I keep bringing the subject up. You're a hypocrite. And it also shines through that you don't care because it was obviously someone who has a different political ideology than you.

Furthermore, it's likely that the Trump Admin stepped in on the original $30 million lawsuit and offered $5 million to avoid inconvenient things from coming out. IOW this needed to go away.
Like

1)Babbitt was unarmed, posed "no threat to the safety of anyone," and had her hands raised in the air when shot.

2)Byrd failed to de-escalate the situation, issue any verbal warnings or commands, or identify himself as an officer before firing.

Good genocide on both sides?

Just one AI overview out of several platforms dsagrees:

"Since 11 Sep 2001, the US military in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan killed over 940,000 Muslims from direct war violence, with an estimated 3.6 to 3.8 million additional indirect deaths, bringing the total to at least 4.5 to 4.7 million. The majority of these casualties are civilians."

"Between Sep 2000 and Oct 2023, the IDF has killed at least 9,597 Muslims."

"Since 7 Oct 2023, the IDF has killed over 70,000 Muslims in Gaza, the West Bank, Iran, Syria, and Yemen."

Non-AI:

The 9/11 and 7 Oct 2023 attacks resulted in less than 5,000 direct American and Israeli deaths: 2,996 Americans and 1,200 Israelis directly killed.

None of the UN agencies allege any armed Palestinian group has committed genocide against Israel, but several UN agencies and scholars have denounced Israel for committing genocide. The ICC has indicted two Israeli leaders for crimes against humanity and the ICJ ruled that Israel has inflicted an apartheid state over the occupied Palestinians.

Furthermore, it's likely that the Trump Admin stepped in on the original $30 million lawsuit and offered $5 million to avoid inconvenient things from coming out.

If that were the case he wasted $5 million dollars. It obviously did not go away.

It's much more likely he did it to pwn the libs.

Byrd failed to de-escalate the situation, issue any verbal warnings or commands, or identify himself as an officer before firing.

If you have to lie to make a point then you don't have one

He issued verbal commands and she refused to obey.

Ashli Babbitt was repeatedly ordered to stop by Capitol Police before she was shot. She ignored multiple commands to stop as she attempted to climb through a barricaded door into the Speaker's Lobby. en.wikipedia.org

So he "deescalated" the riot by taking out the tip of the spear or most aggressive attacker. A common strategy.

It's nearly impossible to negotiate with a violent mob. So you take out the leader and the rest tend to get confused as to what to do next. Giving you time to get the situation under control.

#304 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-10-10 01:53 PM | Reply

And you know why he (the cop that shot Ashli) wasn't masked at the time?

So he could be held accountable for his actions later if need be.

As everyone should be in America.
