Two points:

1. Unless there's persuasive evidence to the contrary, it may be best to assume the files have been diddled with during the time they were going to be released, then not, the ongoing coverup, and now (coverup still in place).

2. The House Republicans must have produced one helluva whip count on the upcoming vote, with support for Trump's coverup position eroding as in-district voters grabbed their pitchforks and lit up the torches

Now he says "Release the files", and since his name is probably not in them about child pedophilia and the best you people can come up with is the files were scrubbed? Dont want to admit Trump hasnt diddled kids, do you? Ah, but the issue probably is ALOT of Democrats and other ARE in them and Trump was just also protecting THEM as well in secret.

Trump's approval ratings are WAY underwater and still sliding. Americans aren't happy with his job performance or Trump and his servants stonewalling on releasing the Epstein files.

FYI: Though Trump claimed he ended their friendship years ago over Epstein poaching his employees, according to newly released emails Epstein was still a Thanksgiving guest of Trump in 2017.

Trump wouldn't have been so adamant about keeping Epstein's files secret unless he had something to hide.

It's entirely plausible his recalcitrance was a stalling maneuver so the hundreds of FBI agents Bondi and Patel tasked with identifying mentions of Trump's name in the DOJ Epstein files have been sufficiently scrubbed of incriminatory info on Trump and those close to him about Epstein ...

and maybe nefarious Russian bank transactions too.

One of the DR's fascinations has always been Boaz and how a person so poorly educated (which has nothing to do with politics) can function in society. Frankly it scared me when he was in Central Asia, thinking that someone so dumb could be anywhere near US weapons systems.

But his willful dumbness and absent morality have hit the complete skids these days.

People who are way too proud of their own opinions to consider altering them in the face of facts: today's GOP.

And there's not a damn conservative on this site who can argue for Trump's policies logically, if that's possible, without getting into homoerotic fantasies or accusations.

Boaz, I don't care what you think of what I've written, but I hope you read it.

You first came on my radar when you were collecting taxpayer money in the armed services and wrote on the DR you'd just heard about a place the US owned called the Virgin Islands. You unabashed ignorance / poor education floored me. At least you're consistent.

Option 3:
Support release of the files while having the DoJ open a new investigation that blocks the release of a portion of the files (anything that makes Trump or other republicans looks bad) and then spin the rest of it in an attempt to hurt democrats.

Apparently there are 100 republicans in the HoR who are planning on voting to release the Epstein files. Trump can't stop it and is simply accepting the reality of what will happen.

If Trump really wanted to release the Epstein files right now he could, if he actually wanted to.

I have my suspicions Trump and his lapdog, Pam Bondi, have already gone through the Epstein files to alter them.

#34 Don't be absurd. It has zero to do with progressives (or anyone else's well-deserved and well-sourced) "hatred" of the Trump.

It has everything to do with the pure poison so-called conservatives have said about "progressives." Especially where your ilk was 100% convinced that the elites and Democrats and progressives are ALL pedophiles. You know, basements in pizza restaurants (which have no basements), where all those elites and Democrats and progressives and Hillary are all molesting children for fun and then drinking their blood in some kind of deranged way of staying young.

Nope. The people who are most pissed off are your ilk, not progressives. The Trump promised them that he would bust wide open the entire elite/liberal/progressive cabal that's abusing their children.

That, my confused friend, is who will be pissed off the most. Your ilk.

Meanwhile, we progressives can just sit back, munch on our popcorn, and watch and laugh as you and your ilk continue your impotent defense of pedophiles... and those pledged to protect pedophiles.

If there was nothing to it, why would 1000 FBI agents suddenly need to sift through it? Obviously the FBI had had them for years already.

AI Overview
In March 2025, approximately 1,000 FBI personnel were assigned to a rapid, two-week review of around 100,000 pages of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents. The agents, including many pulled from field work like combating violent crime, were reportedly instructed to "flag" any records that mentioned President Donald Trump.

Why has Trump did a 180?

Two reasons I suspect why.

Either

1. Files have been cleaned of anything extremely embarrassing, or

2. Much like his taxes and auditing, because DOJ will open up investigations into Dems - certain files will not be released.

Trump literally was trying to get reps to change their vote (apparently from the Situation Room no less) and said a vote for it is a vote against the White House.

Now he wants them released? LOL........only an idiot wouldn't suspect something is up because of that change of heart.

Right on cue, moving from one controversy to the next. Initially, it was the files will bury Trump. Now that he wants to release them, the files have been altered

Doesn't that seem like a Trump thing? Doing something illegal?

He literally went from a campaign promise (which he most likely was just spouting out of his ---), to threatening his own party to vote against it, to now, let's release it.

I wouldn't put anything past Trump in terms of doing something on the down low. He's got a track record of this.

He wants the House to vote to release them.

Then comes the Senate?

How might the Senate vote?

And if the Senate votes to release the files, then Pres Trump has to sign the law.

So, will there be enough votes in Congress to override a possible veto?

On the other hand, with an ongoing investigation, Pres Trump may just say he cannot release the files.

Of course there is that older House Oversight Committee subpoena directing Pres Trump to release the files, which he has largely ignored.

Lamp - I think the fact that more House Repubs were going to vote for it than expected (much more apparently) is an indication that the Senate will have to as well - otherwise you're viewed as protecting potential pedo's. Not a good look and voters aren't going to stand for that.

So then it's on Trump's desk. I could see Trump bypassing all of it or some of it due to legal reasons - ie. the DOJ "investigating".

Address me.

Your choice. You made it. Stop crying.

The only thing that was 100% predictable was that if these files (that everyone has already decided what they say) were released and don't produce what you want will be corrupt, incomplete, basically Trump was allowed access to them so he can control the information. Even falsify the information.

Which is funny because you could have saved yourselves the work and just declare "they're fake!!!!!" From the beginning.

@#33 ... Apparently there are 100 republicans in the HoR who are planning on voting to release the Epstein files. Trump can't stop it and is simply accepting the reality of what will happen. ...

That's the way things seem to be looking for tomorrow's [currently] scheduled 3PM (EST) House vote.

Instead of admitting that he cannot dictate votes onto House Republicans on this issue, he now takes the approach that this is what he has wanted to happen.

But when asked if me would also be in favor of the upcoming Senate vote on the matter (if Maj Leader Thune allows it), Pres Trump was not as forthcoming. ...

Files everyone so desperately wanted released are suddenly "scrubbed" so Trump can now say release them because he knows he can't stop the vote.

Fixed it for ya!!! And why couldn't the delay have given them time to go to Plan B?

Let's see, Trump pays porn stars to not talk thru alternate means, tells Congress "stall the vote, I'll take care of the rest", "find me 11K votes", "I can declassify by just thinking it".

The FBI Redacted Trump's Name in the Epstein Files (August 1, 2025)
www.bloomberg.com

... The most transparent administration in history'

Before explaining the government's rationale for blacking out Trump's name, let's recap. Along with aliens and JFK's assassination, conspiracy theories surrounding the life and death of convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein have long consumed MAGA.

Epstein avoided federal sex-trafficking charges in 2008 when he agreed to plead guilty to state charges in Florida for soliciting prostitution. In July 2019, following an investigation by the Miami Herald that also scrutinized the integrity of the government's probe, Epstein was indicted on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors. A month later, he died by suicide in his jail cell, federal law enforcement authorities said, while awaiting trial.

Epstein's death led to a swirl of renewed interest among Trump supporters, which in recent months has verged into an obsession. Last year, while still on the campaign trail, Trump vowed to "declassify" material in the government's possession pertaining to Epstein. Before Pam Bondi was nominated as attorney general by Trump, she insisted that the public had a right to know more details about the case. "If people in that report are still fighting to keep their names private," she said on Fox News last year, "they have no legal basis to do so, unless they're a child, a victim, or a cooperating defendant." In January, Kash Patel, the FBI director, told a Senate Committee during his confirmation hearing that he'd ensure "the American public knows the full weight of what happened."

Then on Feb. 27, during a highly publicized event at the White House, Bondi rolled out what the Justice Department referred to as the "first phase" of the release of the Epstein files. It was attended by former Pizzagate provocateur Jack Posobiec and other far-right influencers. They were given binders labeled "The Epstein Files" and "The Most Transparent Administration in History" that contained about 200 pages of documents that Bondi characterized as "declassified." She also suggested that the records would contain previously undisclosed details about Epstein.

Instead, Bondi's big Epstein files party was a bust. It turned out the documents she called declassified, which included pages from Epstein's infamous "black book," had been previously released, most recently during the criminal trial of Ghislaine Maxwell four years earlier. (The black book revealed Trump's name and the names of his wife, Melania, and other family members.)

Trump's followers were irate. Bondi was angry, too. She fired off a letter to FBI Director Patel demanding to know why the bureau failed to provide her with the thousands of pages of documents related to the Epstein investigation and indictment she requested. She wanted answers from Patel, and accountability. ...

Then why was Trump so adamant about not releasing them?

Would you agree Trump and GOP leadership was going to great lengths to keep them under wraps?

Or is Trump just stupid and losing it?

Yup. I said when this topic started heating up a few months ago that I wouldn't really trust anything released by the government. At this point, it's suspect as either fake for political targeting reasons or altered to hide allies' misbehavior.

Which is why I'm glad that the info that is coming out is not from this government but from the victims themselves or the estate.

Two sources I find infinitely more trustworthy than this government.

@#96 ... Then why was Trump so adamant about not releasing them? ...

Good question.

There's this ...

JD Vance's 2021 tweet about the Epstein files comes back to haunt him: Aged like milk'
www.independent.co.uk

... An old tweet from J.D. Vance about the Epstein scandal has gone viral after new emails, which claimed that Donald Trump "knew about the girls," were released by the House Oversight Committee.

Now, social media users have said that the vice president's comment from December 30, 2021, has "aged like milk," as it comes back to haunt him.

"What possible interest would the US government have in keeping Epstein's clients secret? Oh ... " Vance tweeted.

The now-vice president did not give a reason for the U.S. Government, the Biden administration, at the time of tweeting, allegedly "keeping the Epstein clients secret."

However, he doubled down on his position with another tweet, which urged journalists to investigate the Epstein case.

"If you're a journalist and you're not asking questions about this case you should be ashamed of yourself," he raged. "What purpose do you even serve? I'm sure there's a middle-class teenager somewhere who could use some harassing right now, but maybe try to do your job once in a while." ...

However, social media users have noted the irony in Vance's tweet. Since becoming vice president, Vance has stated that Trump wants "full transparency" on the issue, despite Trump repeatedly dismissing questions about the Epstein scandal.

The Washington Post wants to know. So does the New York Times. So too do The New Yorker, USA Today, The Nation and Salon.

What all these outlets want to know is the same question last asked in another presidential corruption scandal, Watergate, 45 years ago: "What did the president know, and when did he know it?"

The simple inquiry became world famous. But what is less well-known is the story behind the question, and perhaps most surprising of all, that it was asked in order to defend President Richard Nixon.

The person who asked the question was Tennessee GOP Sen. Howard Baker Jr. His party credentials were unassailable. His father was a GOP Congressman and his father-in-law was Senate minority leader for a decade. Baker was the ranking Republican on the special Senate committee that investigated Watergate. ...

I think this latest move by Trump, saying that the House should vote on releasing the Epstein files may be a bit of a smoke screen. First off, he knows that it would still need to pass in the Senate, which is not a done deal. And even if it does, he could still balk at signing it for some last minute reason. And then we have the fact that he's ordered the DOJ to open an investigation into all of the Democrats whose names appear in the files. So even if does pass the House and Senate, and he does sign it, the DOJ could claim that since there's now an investigation underway, that they're not able to release the bulk of the material since that could compromise their investigation, which they could then drag out for months, if not years.

I still think it's going to be a long time before any of us on the outside are actually going be seeing the Epstein files. I think we'll hear a lot hype and rhetoric and people telling us that what we're seeing is everything, but I suspect that in the end, we're not going to see all that much more than what has already been released, leaked or reported on. Now I'm sure there will be a significant number of people who will look at it and say that it was good enough, and that may last for awhile, but I think eventually there will be a realization that there's still more that's been kept from the rest of us, hidden by that 'smoke' I mentioned earlier. Anyway, time will tell...

Mike Johnson can't have it both ways...

Earlier this year, Trump's own DOJ announced that when it came to the Epstein files, that there was no there there. That is that there was no evidence that would lead the DOJ to open investigations into any previously un-indicted individuals.

But this morning, prior to the vote on releasing the Epstein files, Johnson condemned the Democrats and the Biden administration for not taking up this issue when they had their chance.

If what Trump's DOJ said was true, then it was also true four year ago.

As I've said all along, it was Trump and the MAGA crowd who made Jeffery Epstein an issue during the 2024 campaign and if you look into it, you can see how this all went back to the birth of MAGA during the 2016 campaign when they attacked Hillary and the Democrats over all sorts of stories about pedophilia, remember 'Pizzagate'. I think that during Trump's first term, despite Epstein's indictments and eventual 'suicide', the pedophilia issue sort of died down. However, when Trump was lanuching his 2024 campaign, in order to stir up the MAGA base and it's still deep seated, smoldering conspriacy theories over pedophilia, he made this pormise to release the Epstein files, along with the files on JFK, Martin Luther King Jr, UFO's, etc. Anyway, I think Trump just assumed that while these issues would make for good sound bites to toss around during his stump speeches, that once he was back in office, it would all go the way it had gone during his first time around, that is that the whole pedophilia issue would be forgotten as he implemented what was his really on his mind, that is 'Project 2025'.

And as far as I can find, it appears that the only mention of pedophilia in 'Project 2025' was with respect to using it to undermine LGBTQ Rights.
