Good Morning Doc Sarvis:

Right now I'm reading Gods, Heroes, and Men of Ancient Greece by W.H.D. Rouse (1957).

Then I'm going to either read from my Jules Verne anthology that includes Master of the World or Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis.

Dummkopf Trumpf on Truth Social:

"Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy. He talks about "fear" of the Trump Administration, but doesn't mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being ten and even twenty feet apart. I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn't! I don't want a Pope who thinks it's OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon...."

Both books sound excellent, Doc Sarvis, much appreciated.

Years ago I had heard about an African prince or navigator from the Dark Continent heading West across the vast salty expanse and "discovering" the New World (Brazil), but this is anecdotal. One AI snapshot suggests that I may be referring to Abubakari II, a 14th-century ruler of the Mali Empire.

How many of Immanuel Velikovsky books have you read?

Anyways re-reading Greek mythology has been most rewarding.

I had forgotten all about Hercules' twin brother (also strong, but not like the "Big H").

Did you perchance see my post about the US Army civilian who got jammed up because she divulged secrets to a journalist about Delta Force?

That book sounds like another good read.

Too many books, not enough time, Doc Sarvis.

Jury nullification.

And if the USSS SA is somehow convicted in federal court, an imminent act of clemency would follow from a Democratic POTUS.

**** Iranian President Sends Pope Leo Well Wishes While Slamming Dummkopf Trumpf's AI Image as 'Desecration of Jesus' and 'Not Acceptable' ****

President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on X (Monday 13 April):

"His Holiness Pope Leo XIV ... I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person. I wish you glory by Allah."

Source: Iran Defends Pope

"Pope Leo brushes off Trump criticism amid growing Vatican"U.S. tensions over Iran war

"I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among states to find just solutions to problems," he said.

"Too many people are suffering in the world today. Too many innocent people are being killed. And I think someone has to stand up and say there's a better way."

A Vatican spokesman responded to Trump's social media posts, saying they reflected his "impotence" in the face of the Vatican's criticism of the Iran war.

"When political power turns against a moral voice, it is often because it cannot contain it," Father Antonio Spadaro, under-secretary of the Vatican's Dicastery of Culture and Education, wrote in a social media post. " ... Unable to absorb that voice, power tries to delegitimize it. Yet in doing so, it implicitly acknowledges its weight."

''

Trump's rebuke came as three U.S. cardinals chose to speak out against the Iran war in a rare joint television appearance on 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

"In Catholic teaching, this is not a just war," Cardinal Robert McElroy, the archbishop of Washington, D.C., told the program.

"This is a war of choice. ... I think it's embedded in a wider moment in the U.S. that's worrying: We're seeing before us the possibility of war after war after war."

The Iranian president also took the opportunity to weigh in. President Masoud Pezeshkian posted a message on Monday that said in part -

"I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person."

"The Iranian Islamic regime is widely characterized as a brutal authoritarian, and increasingly totalitarian, theocracy that maintains power through repression, ideologically loyal security forces, and a network of coercion.

The regime is defined by its blending of republican elements (elections) with supreme, unelected theological authority (the Supreme Leader), creating a complex authoritarian structure that has survived multiple mass protests."

Note that this "terroristic" regime isn't targeting civilians like the US and Israel.

In fact, the Iranians gave our USAF a break when they directed their drone into the antenna of the AWAC plane in the rear, and not the cockpit in the front, when the plane was on the runway.

The Russians provided the intel to the Iranians and Tehran acted on it.

Loss of this $300m aircraft is a "grave matter" according to a USAF spokesperson because of the limited number of these specialized planes.

The USAF crew survived the attack, albeit injured and shaken up.

Bottom line, I think the Pope is speaking from a Christian moral perspective.

At the same time, Trump is dealing with the practical realities of a complicated world where ideals are often not possible.

Over and over I've said we are Christians living in a non-Christian world. We sometimes face choices that fall short of those ideals. We can still strive for personal standards even when society does not.

The ideal of a perfect world doesn't exist.
