Good Morning Doc Sarvis:

Right now I'm reading Gods, Heroes, and Men of Ancient Greece by W.H.D. Rouse (1957).

Then I'm going to either read from my Jules Verne anthology that includes Master of the World or Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis.

Dummkopf Trumpf on Truth Social:

"Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy. He talks about "fear" of the Trump Administration, but doesn't mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being ten and even twenty feet apart. I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn't! I don't want a Pope who thinks it's OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon...."

Both books sound excellent, Doc Sarvis, much appreciated.

Years ago I had heard about an African prince or navigator from the Dark Continent heading West across the vast salty expanse and "discovering" the New World (Brazil), but this is anecdotal. One AI snapshot suggests that I may be referring to Abubakari II, a 14th-century ruler of the Mali Empire.

How many of Immanuel Velikovsky books have you read?

Anyways re-reading Greek mythology has been most rewarding.

I had forgotten all about Hercules' twin brother (also strong, but not like the "Big H").

Did you perchance see my post about the US Army civilian who got jammed up because she divulged secrets to a journalist about Delta Force?

That book sounds like another good read.

Too many books, not enough time, Doc Sarvis.

Jury nullification.

And if the USSS SA is somehow convicted in federal court, an imminent act of clemency would follow from a Democratic POTUS.

**** Iranian President Sends Pope Leo Well Wishes While Slamming Dummkopf Trumpf's AI Image as 'Desecration of Jesus' and 'Not Acceptable' ****

President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on X (Monday 13 April):

"His Holiness Pope Leo XIV ... I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person. I wish you glory by Allah."

"Pope Leo brushes off Trump criticism amid growing Vatican"U.S. tensions over Iran war

"I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among states to find just solutions to problems," he said.

"Too many people are suffering in the world today. Too many innocent people are being killed. And I think someone has to stand up and say there's a better way."

A Vatican spokesman responded to Trump's social media posts, saying they reflected his "impotence" in the face of the Vatican's criticism of the Iran war.

"When political power turns against a moral voice, it is often because it cannot contain it," Father Antonio Spadaro, under-secretary of the Vatican's Dicastery of Culture and Education, wrote in a social media post. " ... Unable to absorb that voice, power tries to delegitimize it. Yet in doing so, it implicitly acknowledges its weight."

''

Trump's rebuke came as three U.S. cardinals chose to speak out against the Iran war in a rare joint television appearance on 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

"In Catholic teaching, this is not a just war," Cardinal Robert McElroy, the archbishop of Washington, D.C., told the program.

"This is a war of choice. ... I think it's embedded in a wider moment in the U.S. that's worrying: We're seeing before us the possibility of war after war after war."

The Iranian president also took the opportunity to weigh in. President Masoud Pezeshkian posted a message on Monday that said in part -

"I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person."

"The Iranian Islamic regime is widely characterized as a brutal authoritarian, and increasingly totalitarian, theocracy that maintains power through repression, ideologically loyal security forces, and a network of coercion.

Note that this "terroristic" regime isn't targeting civilians like the US and Israel.

In fact, the Iranians gave our USAF a break when they directed their drone into the antenna of the AWAC plane in the rear, and not the cockpit in the front, when the plane was on the runway.

The Russians provided the intel to the Iranians and Tehran acted on it.

Loss of this $300m aircraft is a "grave matter" according to a USAF spokesperson because of the limited number of these specialized planes.

The USAF crew survived the attack, albeit injured and shaken up.

Bottom line, I think the Pope is speaking from a Christian moral perspective.

At the same time, Trump is dealing with the practical realities of a complicated world where ideals are often not possible.

Over and over I've said we are Christians living in a non-Christian world. We sometimes face choices that fall short of those ideals. We can still strive for personal standards even when society does not.

The ideal of a perfect world doesn't exist.

Now you're the only one here who can tell me if it's true
That you love me, and I love me
I built a little empire out of some crazy garbage
Called "The Blood of The Exploited Working Class"
But they've overcome their shyness
Now they're calling me "Your Highness"
And the world screams, "Kiss me, son of god!"
Yes, the world screams, "Kiss me, son of god!"

They Might Be Giants

Is the Pope's emphasis on moral ideals helpful or unrealistic when applied to real-world policy decisions?

Golly.

Let's take a step back to answer this question.

Is Jesus's emphasis on moral ideals helpful or unrealistic when applied to real-world policy decisions?

Whaddya say, BillJohnson?

To begin, Trump isn't Jesus.

Jesus wasn't speaking about world policy. He was speaking to individuals and their personal conduct.

Trump is dealing with global politics and power struggles among nations. That's a completely different arena.

btw...that was a good question.

He is either a Demon or under the influence of one.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Trump is an absolutely corrupted despot.

Accountability is coming to him just as it just came to Victor Orban.

Corky,

"Of Course Jesus Was Political (And We Need To Be Too)"

Are you suggesting America should be led by Christians who impose their beliefs into law?

Will you pick and choose, like a menu, what aspects of Christianity you want made into law?

Think about what you're saying.

Then how about other religions who want their beliefs made into law?

Are you ready for Sharia Law to be forced on your community where you live?

From Marina Hyde's "Behold, another second coming. But this one is Donald Trump - WAY BETTER than that Jesus guy" at The Guardian (www.theguardian.com):

You hear such a lot from Maga Republicans about how liberals think Trump voters are stupid. But not nearly enough about the far more salient point: that Donald Trump thinks Trump voters are stupid. Naturally, nobody deplores his own people as passionately as a populist, but even by those exacting historical standards Trump really does regard his supporters as a honking great throng of halfwits. How else to explain his seemingly retrofitted claim yesterday that the AI picture he posted of himself as Jesus was "me as a doctor". Er, no. After it incensed leading figures in the Christian right, which makes up a large part of his voter base, the US president later deleted it, lamenting of these idiots that he "didn't want anybody to be confused. People were confused." Yeah, people are stoopid.

Trump, a self avowed Chriostian, has engaged in about the most egregious form of blasphemy and idolatry we will see in our lifetime. Him. Personally. Of his own accord.

You would have to be the most hypocritical Christian in the world to continue to stand by Trump at this point.

Trump needs to stop making references to the Pope.

I haven't seen him claim anything close to being a deity. However this kind of talk drags everything into a religious context.

At this point, I'm disappointed in how both Trump and the Pope are communicating.

Corky,

What if disarming Iran prevents a much larger loss of life?

Iran has already shown what it's willing to do, even to its own people.

This isn't about reacting after the damage is done. It's about preventing it before it reaches that point.

That kind of foresight is always a hard sell.

What if it doesn't? What will the excuse be then for murdering school children?

What if Iran gets nukes, and then decides to be like every other country with nukes and figure out Mutually Assured Destruction, MAD?

Which I'm pretty sure they already have. Trump tore up the Agreement we had, which would have covered some radical group getting their hands on it, and the Gov isn't insane enough to commit national suicide.

They only time they might is if Israel started treating them like Gaza, Israel who wouldn't be doing this if DJT weren't such a pussy... he let's Putin and Nuttyahoo treat him like their biatch.

Do you know what the bible actually says about Israel since JC's time? They were told not to expect any special treatment.

The IAEA, USIC, UK, and UN have all confirmed North Korea has both nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

Their nuclear weapons tests have been confirmed.

No one is disarming Pyongyang.

The IAEA, USIC, UK, and UN have NEVER recorded one single nuclear weapons test emanating from Iran, a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Attacking Iran and trying to create an impossible regime change in Iran has been a dream of AIPAC and Benjamin Netanyahu for decades, especially if America funds it and US servicemembers are sacrificed for it.

One would have more respect for these Islamophobes and AIPAC shills if they would just admit that.

North Korea is a deterrence problem.

Iran is a prevention problem.

We want to keep Iran that way because they already make threats and a nuclear Iran will destabilize the Middle East.

How many Middle Eastern countries are coming to their defense?
