Even Trump's own Energy Secretary admits his claim that gas price increases would be "short-term" is a lie.

Gas is now over $4 nationally, and $5.85 in California. Americans are paying the price for Trump's disastrous leadership.[image or embed]

I filled a rented 2025 F-150 XLR last weekend. 3/4 tank for $88, at a Bucees which tends to be on the lower end of the price spectrum. However, that was 670 miles of range on a full tank.

23 mpg average, Houston to San Antonio and back. Might have done a little better in eco mode but probably not much.

Remember, as it says in The Book of Books: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal." So, let it go, tomorrow's another day, fuhgedaboudit, two maybe three weeks it'll blow over. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

$4.06 in WNY. Usually don't let the tank drop below 1/2 so half a tank is $30 or so.

I've cut my speed on the highway and now average 34.6 MPG on my Subie.

The last time I filled-up was April 9th and I paid $5.399 for regular at our local COSTCO. According to their app, if I were to fill-up today, it would cost $5.359.

For the record, I live in Southern California, and at the name brand stations, like Chevron, the gas there is over $6 a gallon.

The tank I fill most often is my Chevy Colorado diesel, since it carries my tools and acts as my daily driver. Fortunately, since it's a little 4 cylinder I average about 27 MPG out of it. Three months ago it was costing me about $65 to fill it. Now it's a little over $100. Diesel here is currently about $5.20.

I also have a GMC 3500HD that I only use when I need to pull a heavy trailer or haul my camper. It hasn't been out since the beginning of the year.

"Dated" deliveries of oil are over $150 a bbl.

A delivery date is the final date by which the underlying commodity for a futures or forward contract must be delivered for the terms of the contract to be fulfilled. Most futures contracts are used as a hedge to reduce the risk of adverse price movements in a commodity and are closed out with an offsetting position (selling to offset a long position and buying to offset a short position) before the actual delivery date.

I'm not usually a conspiracy nut and it sounds impossible but I have a sneaking suspicion that the oil companies are not passing along their full increased cost and are restraining their greed in order to support tRump. They could be actually doing this because they are already wallowing in excess profits and it serves their purpose to help extend the wump war.

OK, the last tankers that had been able to traverse the Strait of Hormuz have likely reached their destinations.

Now, the big thing those destinations are asking is: where, and how, do we get our future oil needs?

the Strait of Hormuz was wide open to all traffic

At least since the "Tanker Wars" of the late '70s.

#45 | Posted by REDIAL at 2026-04-21 11:52 PM | Reply

The Economist: "Fifty days into the Iran war the world has lost 550 million barrels of Gulf crude"nearly 2% of last year's global output. Every month Hormuz stays closed, the world misses out on 7 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), worth 2% of its annual supply. Yet in Western countries, which host the largest futures markets, pain remains limited. Petrol is a bit pricier, but most households can still afford to drive. Trucks keep trucking. Planes continue to fly. Fuel stocks remain close to pre-war levels."

"This comforting picture is deeply misleading. By April 20th the last few oil tankers to cross Hormuz before the war began reached their destinations, in Malaysia and California. There is no buffer left to protect the world from the supply shock, at a time of the year when demand from holiday drivers starts to pick up."

The last of the oil tankers that left the strait before the war have made their deliveries by tomorrow. Shortages & higher prices are coming to a gas station near you.

Iran found out they already have a nuclear weapon: stopping oil from leaving the Persian Gulf. 20% of the world's oil supply. Not to mention fertilizer farmers need this planting season, rare earth metals, helium, etc etc.

Iran holds all the cards.

Biden bought back the gas for less than he sold it for. If Trump had done as much, you'd be lined up to lick his taint.

Instead, Trump started a war with an oil supplier WITHOUT buying back the SPR first.

Biden released 230 million barrels of oil and bought back over 200 million barrels at lower prices in 2024.

I was paying as much as $3.99 on a trip from Htown to Jville AL on Sunday-Monday in my lil old vintage Corolla and getting 35mpg. I want the price to go much higher in order to damage the repugs. I want the maggots in the lifted pickups to feel the pain, the hot rodders to run out of gas, the fancy pants Benz magas to enjoy paying greatly increased prices for their 93 octane, the pig-pugs in their monster RVs to be stunned at the price of a fill up. And most of them will know exactly who to blame.

"I don't know how long this is going to go. My view is the Dotard-in-Chief is right. Just keep the blockade on. The economic and financial pressure is going to squeeze them down and squeeze them down and squeeze them down.

We've taken out the top three layers. This is a fourth layer. They'll be taken out. They know they'll be taken out. So I think the end game is coming. It hasn't hurt our economy.

Look at the numbers today. S&P Global manufacturing up again. ISM manufacturing up. Retail sales is up. We're probably running about 3% economic growth despite $4 gasoline. It's not our problem.

We are doing economic and financial starvation. That's what it is. I have no idea about combat, it's not part of my portfolio. All I know is Trumpf's right, they're going to fold. This game is over, they don't even know it. It will be over before long."
