Wasn't the idea behind the New Green Deal for America become more reliant of renewable energy and less reliant on fossil fuels for this very reason? To reduce any effects of fluctuations in oil prices based on chaos and conflicts somewhere thousands of miles away?

The plan didn't get past the Senate. Also, it was electricity, not fuel. Also, there were provisions to protect consumers.

The quote R's are looking for is from Steven Chu. "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." which were $8 to $10 per gallon, to curb fossil fuel usage and fund public transit.

Which lasted like a month until he was taken to task for it, "I no longer share that view... Of course we don't want the price of gasoline to go up. We want it to go down."

... "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. . . .

Because I'm capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, natural gas -- you name it -- whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers."

I. think Trump's hatred for windmills is sort of indicative of his view about all slternative energy sources. It seems like he views our military as our pathway to cheap or free oil from nations we conquer as a preferable choice to developing more alternative energy sources. He's not the first to do that; George W. Bush invaded Iraq for oil and now Trump has already invaded Venezuela and is losing in his war to steal Iran's oil. The Iranians can see what happened to Ukraine after they gave up their nukes so why would they want to do the same thing?

I don't know about other places and admit it readily. But here in east TX, the price for cheapest gas before the invasion was $2.22. Now the cheapest is $3.40. That's 50% higher, AND we have our own oil refinery not that far away. DFW is 10-20 cents more expensive.

So, do we just ignore all of the stupid and crazy crap the GOP claims they are for because past attempts were narrowly thwarted or do we take politicians at their word?

Set aside the fringe - prominent Dems are more strongly than ever looking to pack SCOTUS. Also, adding DC (a fricking city) and Puerto Rico (a colony island) as states so they can add 4 permanent Dem senators. But of course all they need is the slimmest congressional majorities in both Houses and the WH to put into place an abolition of the filibuster to make all of these things happen. With that, a one party tyranny with 1A criticisms being dubbed "hate speech".

#48 | Posted by BellRinger at 2026-10-28 01:10 AM | Reply

In 2021 they had razor slime majority in the House and 50/50 split with Harris as the VP tie breaker. They pushed for all of this and the ONLY opposition I recall came from 2 senators - Manchin and Sinema. They both "retired" shortly after and I'm surprised they weren't assassinated for their treachery. Now, all Dems need is 51 Senate seats with Fetterman sane voice and they can hijack the entire system.

I'm surprised they weren't assassinated

You mean like when a right winger tried to assassinate Gabby Giffords after Sarah Palin put a bullseye over her name?

Or when a right winger with ties to Roger Stone offed a fire fighter in PA supposedly trying to kill the Orange Chomo?

Or when a right winger offed Charlie Kirk over his outrage of the Trumpstein files being hidden?

Or when a right winger tried to assassinate FBI agents after they seized the stolen classified documents at the bug infested golf motel?

Or when the proud boofs killed cops trying to start a race war in CA?

How about when Lewzer had police officers and some of his own idiots killed on January 6?

There is one side of the political spectrum that resorts to violence when they don't get what they want and it is almost exclusively on the right.
