Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, July 21, 2024

Minutes after announcing his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, President Joe Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him. "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made," Biden wrote. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats " it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this."

So, the theme / meme of the Dem convention will be same as GOP... UNITY! (Isn't it always?)

With the right VP against "extreme" JD Vance and "ABT / anybody but Trump" vote in the right states she should be able to pull this off. For example, Gov. Josh Shapiro as VP can give her Pennsylvania, and probably make a + difference in some other states.

Not familiar, just looked him up. Was never interested in scripred wrestling, and before my time.

Familiar with "Hulk" Hogan, because of "Gawker lawsuit" engineered by Peter Thiel - that's direct connection to Thiel's once-"protege" JD Vance, who got initial $15M to run for Senate.

Maybe get some of the wrestlers into Dem convention... if can find some who may be interested? Unless it will look too much like Idiocracy?

It was / is in the background, on the campaigns levels - it's not in the open media who are still digesting and regurgitating "this momentous day" - give them a day or two to get over the "shock" and immerse themselves in the "contest sport" full time.

Anyone see a semblance of a pattern?

The pattern implies that younger Democratic candidates have historically been more successful in winning the presidency than older ones. This observation aligns with data showing that younger voters tend to favor Democratic candidates more strongly. In recent elections, voters under 30 have shown a pronounced shift toward Democrats, with high D-R margins in their voting patterns.

This pattern doesn't always hold true, as evidenced by Joe Biden's victory in 2020 at the age of 78, breaking the trend of younger Democratic presidents.

Granted, Trump was 75(?) in 2020, so the variable might not have been as significant at that time.

Was also a case with Dukakis... hence, only "a semblance of a pattern" - circumstances are always different, but the odds are better, or as Hugh Keough used to say:

The Kamala bandwagon is rolling because the deep state can control her and keep her on the straight and narrow. Bush-Cheney/Doofus-Deep State redux.

But that bandwagon still carries with it the weight and luggage of the entire Biden administration.

That is why Mark Kelly would be a better dark horse POTUS candidate for those who are wise to the machinations of the empire managers and wish to vote for someone that the swamp hasn't quite devoured. Leave Kamala as VP. She makes a good golden gavel banger.

"Never seen proof of this"

Yes, that strange, unexplained phenomenon where US foreign policy moves along the same trajectory regardless of political party or election results is just one of those things that happens in nature. Kinda like a baby bird jumping out of it's nest, learning to fly just before it reaches ground and is crushed, and then, a few months later, knowing exactly how to build an exact replica of their former home. There is no noticeable evidence that it has to do with the involvement of some higher power- it is simply defined as "instinct" and as such, easier to resign oneself to, being nothing more than a compartmentalized mystery of nature.

Like how the Biden's administration's approach to strategic priorities over the past four years has been surprisingly consistent with the policies of the previous Trump administration.

Call the "deep state" a bureaucracy and perhaps that will feel more comforting. No one elects that bureaucracy. You can't even see most of it- behind the many layered veils of government and also corporate secrecy. You can study it your whole life and at best you'll come away with a list of opaque government agencies, corporations, banks, financial institutions, longtime military and intelligence operatives, war profiteers, various think tanks, lobbying firms, and NGOs with nebulous ties to various nations and governments around the world. But WHO EXACTLY will remain a mystery to you-- like God. So you create a personalized form of agnosticism or atheism to deal with those questions and mysteries and go about your life like it never even existed or fool yourself into thinking it never affects you directly.

But every once is while the veil is lifted, usually by something that has not been scripted and you sneak a peek at the reality. The current and ongoing genocide of the Palestinian peoples by Israel is one such recent occurrence. Everyone of consequence on both sides of the aisle fell into line-- like birds around the world building strikingly similar nests, as almost if by instinct...

No surprise. He's part of the game. Trumpism tricks otherwise intelligent and rational people into thinking that the electoral process still works and that they still have some sort of influence over who controls the country. The populist MAGA movement exists to reinforce the "normalcy" of the otherwise completely ABNORMAL establishment factions of both the Republican and Democrat parties.

The mechanics and inner workings of the Empire are much, much too important to be left to the will of the plebes of the American electorate.

Straight up, it simply isn't "that big of an issue" when you look at the big picture and is primarily an issue due to media talk. A younger Democrat candidate isn't automatically going to either energize the base or swing votes period.

I was at a party yesterday and unfortunately it turned to talk of this and Kamala was not received well. Just in "water cooler talk" around work this morning, those that I see as middle of the road but "would never vote for Trump" or "would never vote for Trump again" are actually talking about Trump as an option now. I even talked to a couple of people who were complaining about only these two "super old guys". NOBODY is thrilled at all about Kamala. One guy said "I'd vote for Hillary before I'd vote for Kamala" and we all know he voted for Trump the first time but after 1/6 denounced him. I don't think it is going to energize anyone and it isn't going to bring in votes from people who were complaining about 2 old men and planning on voting for Trump.

Look, for all his issues Biden has done well and Kamala has been underwhelming as a candidate and hidden away as VP after her flubs. All indications are that Biden did a pretty great job economically - yes I know inflation. That was unavoidable and evidence is showing that most of it has been corporate greedflation. Look at the 2020 candidates, on the Democratic side they were in general good speakers and "politicians" but it scared the death out of me that they were the best that would run. That said, I don't have a problem with Pete Buttigieg - a large number of Americans do though. (Given the messes he has been handed at the DOT I think he did as well as can be expected.) Bernie who is also very old would have been a better President IMHO and unfortunately even though he isn't the radical he is portrayed as would never have been able to win IMHO and let's face it the "Bernie Bros" were an issue haunting him too.

The only consultation is that on the flip side, the GOP showed their candidates are even less intelligent and even worse period - which is just plain scary.

Even Whitmer pulled herself from this freight train saying she doesn't want to be VP, I think the wheels are going to come off it.

#47 | Posted by GalaxiePete at 2024-07-22 11:50 AM | Reply

I hate to say it, and this isn't exactly a hot take, but i really think she needs to choose a straight white guy for VP to shore up at least some of the people who have internal biased against voting for a black woman.

Newsom is likely not an option because then it's an all California ticket, and the GOP would lean hard into "they want to make the country like California." Side note, i love California, but the reality is that Rs have successfully branded it a socialist dump.

That leaves Pritzker, Beshear, Shapiro, Cooper, Kelly, or some wildcard. Given his political acumen, people skills and ability to self-fund, i'm a Pritzker guy myself.

Having said that the party brand is extremely damaged right now.

For the most part, people are not stupid. It's patently obvious Biden has been like this for a while. The debate wasn't a surprise for anyone paying attention. For those who don't follow politics closely it probably was a surprise and those people realize they were misled and lied to. Further, some voters feel betrayed - feel Biden should be the nominee because he won the primary.

It's ridiculous that he drops out of the race for obvious reasons but doesn't drop out of office. If he can't campaign then he can't govern. It tells me that Harris probs lay won't be the nominee. If Biden were to resign she becomes the incumbent.

Biden trailing off and over thinking is not a cognitive issue. But it is an appearance issue and that's all that matters.

Now Trump rambling is a cognitive issue. He can't keep his thoughts straight, has no clue what's going on, and has no grasp of facts. Funny you never talk about this?

Everyone I've spoken to, not all of whom are Democrats but all of whom were not voting for Trump, are feeling optimistic about Harris as the nominee. That means the Democratic base is behind her as well as some never Trumpers. That's a good starter. Yes, she needs to pick a solid VP.

A real primary was needed because Biden is a decomposing corpse. If the party, establishment and media were remotely honest it would have happened because it needed to happen. Now, the default his Harris and she currently has aggregate RCP polling at around 39%.

If she is not the nominee it will be done without any Democratic process at all (ironic for the party cLaiming to be saving democracy) and will anger a subset of voters because she was explicitly chosen as a DEI candidate.

I like the Halley PAC supporting Harris and putting all their resources into her campaign as well.
Yesterday she got $47 million in donations in 7 hours. Don't know what it is just 24 hours after the announcement. Probably more than that $7 million, though.

I think Biden would have continued to be a great President, but the perception (ageism) of him campaigning wasn't going to improve and doomed him. His chance to fix that was a failure. Odds did not look good that he'd ever recover from that. I was mad he was forced out, but today I'm good with it.

I said last night I get to vote FOR Harris and AGAINST Trump - so win/win!

THIS. Biden just sounds like a tired old man who once in a while loses his train of thought - which I do daily and I am FAR younger. Look I have been telling people this for a bit - Trump and his interviews and speeches is reminding me eerily of my Aunt who had Alzheimer's and kept it "hidden" for years. None of us knew how bad it was despite seeing her regularly. We thought she was just getting older and didn't grasp what was going on - it was gradual and it went from her being this sane and rational person (except on "church") to saying off the wall stuff, changing what she was talking about mid discussion, etc. She was pretty advanced before we understood what was happening. It was the "sundowners" that finally made it all come together. When that kicked in full bore, she came over one night and I had to take a look at her car because he neighbor was messing with it. They put buttons on her steering wheel among other things...

"Jeffries and Schumer set to endorse Harris as soon as Monday as Pelosi throws her support behind the vice president

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the top two Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, will endorse Kamala Harris in her presidential bid as soon as Monday, according to multiple sources familiar with the decision.

In addition to the current leaders, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of the most influential Democratic lawmakers in Washington, endorsed Harris' campaign in a statement Monday.

"Today, it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country's future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States," Pelosi said.

" We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges. I believe that Joe Biden's vision of a generous, prosperous, and united America that provides opportunity for everyone will be on full display at the Democratic Convention in August. - Notice he doesn't endorse Harris.

More Trumpism, same source.

He's waiting to let the Convention vote, as his endorsement would seal the deal before there is any vote.

"But people close to Obama, who has positioned himself as an impartial elder statesman above intraparty machinations, said not to read too much into it " and had no alternate candidate in mind when he made the decision not to immediately endorse Harris.

Obama adopted an identical stance four years ago when Biden's aides pressured him to endorse early in the Democratic primaries before Sen. Bernie Sanders dropped out.

(Obama's favored phrase back then was "I don't want to thumb the scale.")

Endorsing too early now would also be a political mistake " fueling criticism that Harris' nomination, should it come, was a coronation rather than the best possible consensus under rushed circumstances, they said."

I've got to tell y'all (you'll know who you are!) that I really shouldn't be eating this much popcorn.

For months (years?) the GOP has been devoting all their energies into attacking President Biden because they assumed he was the only one that was a strong enough candidate to oppose former President Trump. It's often said that in politics, timing is everything. So, here we are: essentially immediately after the GOP candidates are fixed (plus avoiding the Friday "dead news day" and the Sunday morning political pundit shows), but as early as possible, President Biden pulls an "October Surprise". No wonder the GOP is sputtering like a wet hen. The GOP dumped all their eggs into the "Get Biden" basket and Dark Brandon is looking like he was way ahead of them all the time.

This whole scenario reminds me of those little lizards that break off the ends of their tails to distract predators and escape safely. Oh, the GOP will bellow and fluster, but it'll only make them look all the more like two year olds throwing a tantrum and it'll amount to nothing (well, except for keeping the spotlight on VP Harris: BTW, thanx in advance for all the free advertising!). Keep up the good work!

What were the parts of the plan?

Biden's debate performance?

The plan was to wait until after the GOP convention to make this move?

Does the FEC just allow all of Biden's campaign contributions to be given to Harris? That seems fraudulent to the donors.

This has already been covered here. Your Google broken or something?

JFC You dumb lazy fnkc:

As Vice President and Biden's running mate, Kamala Harris is well-positioned to take control of Biden's campaign infrastructure and financial resources. Here are the key points supporting this:

Harris can inherit the campaign's existing funds and infrastructure if she becomes the Democratic nominee for either president or vice president.

The Biden-Harris campaign committee is shared, allowing Harris and her potential running mate to continue using the campaign's existing funds for the general election.

Harris automatically inherits Biden's campaign treasury and campaign infrastructure, as it was the Biden-Harris reelection committee.

Access to the substantial war chest held by the Biden-Harris campaign (over $91 million as of June) could easily be given to Harris, but not to any other potential candidate.

As the logical alternative to Biden, Harris gains a significant advantage in terms of campaign resources and organization compared to any other potential Democratic candidates.

This arrangement gives Harris a considerable head start in terms of campaign infrastructure and funding, should she become the Democratic nominee. It's important to note that while she has access to these resources, she still needs to secure the nomination through the delegate process at the Democratic National Convention.

Oh nooooos

Here come the Willie Brown "attacks."

LOL You folks have a LOT of fodder to attack Kamala, especially during her time as AG in CA. Yet, it's the Willie Brown's willy that you think will take her down?

This is so fascinating! Trump is SO bad, I'm voting for Harris. And if any of you know where I was at in 2020 when Biden chose her as the VP nominee, yall will know where I stand with her. She's horrible, absolute hypocrite. Pro drug war, pro tough on crime, and just a nasty person in general.

Yet, I'd vote for her for POTUS or any other office as long as it leads to a Trump loss. She's terrible, Trump is significantly worse. That's the difference. Any suggethst she slept to the top or gained her position based o ln nefarious politics doesn't hold a candle to Trump and his baggage. You dumb ----- ignoring that will have a lot of Crow to eat come November.

IS that Trump and his billionaire buddies at the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation have convinced low info voters that Trump is for the working man.

And that it's OK to overturn an Election and it's OK to pay SC Justices in bribes.

They are the culmination of the decades of the right wing tear down of the education system.
