Trump: "We're gonna be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card. We're gonna put a price on that card of about $5 million and that's going to give you green card privileges, plus. It's gonna be a route to citizenship, and wealthy people will be coming into our country."[image or embed]

Asked by a reporter whether Russian oligarchs could apply for "gold cards," Trump said " seemingly tongue-in-cheek " "Yeah, possibly. Hey, I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people."

He knows he doesn't even need to hide his agenda, his followers are that purposefully ignorant.

Trump:

"Hey, I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people ... . it's possible they could obtain one ... . They are not as wealthy as they used to be; I think they can afford $5 million."

Sure, rich foreigners are doing great things for the US these days. Just look at DC.

I'd rather have young, highly educated foreigners, or hardworking middle-class wannabes who just want to live a life free of violence and oppression, although for the time being they may not have made the best choice of location.

People who are been broke have motivations to earn to invest. How much money did your forebears have when they arrived here?

And people who come in rich are more likely to continue looting the system.

Trump will probably market Gold Cards minted with Fort Knox gold, and no MAGAt will say boo.

You got the data on that, other than Gracie's crime reports?

How many immigrants came in who committed no crimes but contributed plenty to the economy of their own household, not to mention repatriating money to their home country?

I'm not arguing that. But they still don't have money to invest. I never said bright minds shouldn't have a shot at coming here and finding a path to citizenship.

What Trumps doing is not new, Other countries have done the same thing and I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I'm not against anyone applying for citizenship "legally" and coming here, if we have a need for their labor/talents.

America has always been a pay to play country.

Ass grass or gas. Nobody rides for free.

The more money you have the easier it is to jump the line. It's never been about diversity equality and inclusion here though we half heartedly tried.

America is a country of wealthy white men, by wealthy white men, for wealthy white men. That's why wealthy white men hate DEI.

Now we are just going to be blatantly condescending maga trolls about it.

There are more POC millionaires than Whites. Rich Chinese millionaires that want to leave China; look at Vancouver CA. Getting into the US is a dream for about 6 Million Chinese millionaires.

Having a $5M entry fee is a good way to get them to come to the US.

Why do you hate it when a POC can actually contribute?

-America is a country of wealthy white men, by wealthy white men, for wealthy white men

You have to ask yourself who would take advantage of this........

1. has $5 million
2. very much wants to come here because where they are isn't so good

I would say when you add those 2 together you get a lot of POC who will be taking advantage of this.

If you are not a wealthy white man but you are wealthy there thousands of better places to be right than in America now.

And it's not really all that safe for wealthy white men here now. Apparently.

Just ask the former CEO of United Healthcare. He's very white and very wealthy. But unfortunately he is also very dead. Shot dead by an another American with one of our 400 million easy to get guns.

can you explain that?

Are you saying that it's more dangerous for a wealthy white man to live outside the US...

Or that it's more dangerous for a wealthy POC to live inside the US.

And dangerous how?

A POC can own assets here in the USA with little fear of it being taken by a rouge or renegade govt faction.

But there are "thousands" of better places for a POC to live than in the US?

start naming them.

In reality, it's a huge systemic problem that can't be solved and the truth has to be suppressed and acknowledged in private.

A country 37 trillion in debt can certainly use more educated self sufficient green card holders instead of the 15 million unvetted people that Biden brought in on our welfare. While I have mixed feelings on this. I have no mixed feelings whatsoever about Bidens bringing in millions of dependent non English speaking people that will only hurt education, and add to our welfare roles and bring down wages.

Pay to Play. I remember Gazzarris' on the Strip. One long, tedious parade of painfully under-rehearsed garage bands, all deluding themselves that paying to play there night after night would surely land them the Holy Grail of a fabled big label record deal. Trump is simply selling time-share citizenship to "rich" foreigners, who should really review the fine print on any documentation they sign.

Your precious rich people are the biggest moochers.

They're the biggest recipients of tax pay dollars, generally through subsidies.

They avoid paying taxes thanks to clever accounting.

They're generally using a lot more utilities and commodities than regular people.

You're just a boot licker for the wealthy.

You always have been, since they're your betters.

Do you ever think about what you write? Or do you just go full Trump and spout whatever is on your mind?

Nothing you wrote is even remotely intelligent, and certainly not true.

The wealthy have been paying your fair share of the taxes for decades. The difference between you and I is that I recognize and appreciate it, while you think they should be paying for your vacays and lattes in addition to your taxes.

That's, if they pay any taxes at all.

Considering most hire accountants to help find every loophole imaginable to prevent them from paying a cent in taxes.

A lot of wealthy people don't pay taxes.

Trump bragged not paying taxes means he's smart.

Yet here you are, extolling the virtues of the wealthy.

- The wealthy have been paying your fair share of the taxes for decades.

The wealthy pay less than most people do as a percentage of their income.

"And what did the Treasury report show?

At that summit, the nation's richest 0.0002 percent " a group that roughly corresponds in size to the Forbes 400 " paid in 2019 federal and state taxes the equivalent of less than 1 percent of their wealth.

The richest of America's rich, the top 0.00005 percent of taxpayers, paid in federal and state taxes an amount that equaled just 0.75 percent."

inequality.org

from...

"Oops! A Rich-People-Friendly Think Tank Confirms Our Richest Pay Under 1 Percent of Their Wealth Annually in Tax
A new Tax Foundation analysis also inadvertently shines a light on the uselessness of adjusted gross income' as an indicator of actual billionaire economic income."

It's SO weird how the non-wealthy have been brainwashed to defend the Very Wealthy with all their might; how they 'think' that a Secretary paying more as a percentage of their income than their billionaire boss is Fair Taxation.

I know you really would like to think that's the case, budditznot. At least not according to those reactionary bourgeoise capitalist pigs at the IRS.

The top 1% paid an average rate of 26%, covering 42.3% of the total federal income tax burden. The average tax amount was $458,894.

In comparison, you and your peers in the bottom 50% had an average rate of 3.1%, covering 2.3% of the total federal income tax burden, with an average federal income tax bill of $504. The notes state that the burden on lower income earners is overrated, as refunds are not factored into these totals.

Numbers are from 2020. The last year Trump was in office.

"A lot of wealthy people don't pay taxes."

few, if any poor people pay taxes.

"Trump bragged not paying taxes means he's smart."

I pay very little in taxes. The first $128k of my income is non-taxable through the overseas exemption. The rest of it is taxable, but I generally have deductions that reduce it way down.

"few, if any poor people pay taxes."

You mean Federal taxes I presume.

Nearly all "poor" people pay taxes. One way or another. Depending. Unless they are completely homeless and have absolutely no income. And spend no money. I am gonna bet without looking that's still a very small percentage in America.

And I bet they would all rather (if they have a rather) have to pay some taxes than have to live that way.

Did you read the article you referenced?

You do realize the "tax rates" you listed were not actual tax rates, right? But rather the percentage of the tax payment when compared to total assets?

You don't pay tax on wealth. You pay tax on income. But I guess it's what one would expect from a website called "inequality.org."

But if you really want to make a point, find out what the average tax rates were for those demographics. That would be meaningful.

I always find it amusing when folks scramble around for "the facts" to justify trumpian lies.

Trump twists the facts to support his narrative and then folks like you come along and try to Trumpsplain his obvious lies and BS that he uses to justify the chaos and confusion he has created with his criminal negligence.

I would really love to see a list of who actually pays $5 million dollars just to be an American in today's America.

#98 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-02-26 02:45 PM | Reply

An O-6 is a field grade rank. Not a General/Flag officer rank.

I retired as an O-5. Had I been an O-6 with my time in grade, I would have been earning $13,596 per month. Plus, an additional $2400 per month in housing allowance, plus an additional sum for Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). For me that ranged form $300 some months to upwards of $900.

Had I been a general, I would have been making $18,808. Generals don't get housing allowance because they live in special houses.

And I'm not in the military anymore. Government employees and Service Members are ineligible for the overseas tax exemption.

What Corky posted isn't incorrect, but it's not a tax rate. So it's not something you can compare to other tax rates.

Republican just don't get it. Like after 2020 when Texas Governor Abbott was bragging about all the Californians leaving California for Texas. MAGA cheered with glee. Then they moved here, bought up homes, increase the cost of homes, and MAGA is now raging in Texas about how Californians are ruining Texas. Wait until we get the "millions" of Chinese and foreign millionaires come coming here to buy up homes and raising the cost of living. I'm certain they'll be no complaints from MAGA.

Canada did the same thing letting in really rich foreigners that invested $250,000 dollars into Canadian property who were rewarded with green cards. Vancouver along now has over 37,000 Chinese millionaires and they have destroyed the housing market for the working class Canadians to be able to live there. Is this what Americans wish? To turn the U$A into the San Francisco Bay Area where only the rich can afford to live?

"With its relatively weak currency and welcoming immigration policies, Canada has become a top destination for China's 1 percenters. According to government figures, from 2005 to 2012, at least 37,000 Chinese millionaires took advantage of a now-defunct immigrant investor program to become permanent residents of British Columbia, the province that includes Vancouver."

IOW it's okay to buy your way in but not come through the back door? I wonder how the MAGA faithful feel about that? I suspect that the MAGA faithful won't be very happy because the people that they would be most happy with are Europeans and they aren't likely to apply while Trump is POTUS. I suspect there will be a lot of POC applying for this "gold card" i.e. Asians, Indians, Arabs, Hispanics, etc. There will probably be some Russians trying to escape the tyranny of Putin. But, they need to keep in mind that Putin will find them wherever they try to flee. So will the Chinese.

Yeah. County sheriffs don't enforce federal immigration law.

You seem to believe it's a conspiracy to defraud the government and taxpayers.

Actually, it's because it falls outside the scope of their job.

In your life, have you actually met a county sheriff? How about the president of a chamber of commerce?

local law enforcement focuses on the laws broken by illegal immigrants except 1.....actually being here.

and you've never produced any evidence to the contrary. Just keep spewing some conspiracy theory involving those seedy characters.

After 34 years of service, 30 of them as a commissioned officer, I have to say that I never met any son or daughter or grandchild of billionaires in any military branch, and the # of recent descendants of multimillionaires were less than could count on two hands. And in civilian life yet these entitled uber-wealthy citizens generally feel that their "contribution" to US society is of greater value than any poor person's sons, daughters or grandkids that have been (or even died) in service in the Mideast sandbox or Afghanistan or anywhere else in the world.

As far as we can see, a billionaire's wealth is fungible, and like Trump did, their wealth can cross borders easily or be hidden by creative accounting. The US financial system allows wealth of billionaires and multi-millionaires to be untouched by the IBDI scheme - invest, borrow, die, inherit. This allows legacy wealth to accrue and pass on generationally without incurring taxes.

When I see billionaire owners of casinos making huge campaign contributions to right wing "nationalist" politicians in exchange for big tax breaks, or lucrative government contracts, or once highly regarded civilian awards it cheapens every veteran's service as am indicator of who is really appreciated in this country under Trump.

#119 | Posted by Augustine at 2025-02-28 08:40 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

I wonder how this will affect the work of US counter-terrorism and national security organizations. Trump proclaimed that a "million gold visas will generate a trillion" in revenue for the US. If this is his scheme to pay down the evergreen $7.5 trillion budget deficit that his tax cuts for billionaires will create, it's still a mirage. Mafiosi , international spies and plants, and terrorist leaders and autocrats from all over the world will become the beneficiaries of this open door to barely faithful investors.

"How does one become such an enormous ass kiss? Is it your lack of basic math knowledge?"

How does one become so blind to the obvious.

Let's do this. Would you prefer a country where millionaires were not permitted to exist?

#121 | Posted by madbomber at 2025-02-28 10:29 AM | Reply

"IOW it's okay to buy your way in but not come through the back door?"

Yes. It's always been that way.

The US is a little bit different, but most countries won't let you live there without showing that you are able to support yourself and provide for your own necessities.

That's why this is so strange. Unless policy changes, wealthy people could move to the US without paying $5 million for a gold card. When you do a cost-benefit analysis, what's the point? It's not taxes. If you're a citizen of another country, you're probably going to be expected to pay taxes there, although there may be some exceptions. It's not geography. CONUS beaches are garbage. Most of the south and midwest are completely undesirable. And the nicer places in the US are significantly nicer that what you would find in Europe.

The only place I see this having any impact would be for multinational corporations who would want to position key company leaders in the US without having to screw around with leaving the country every couple of months to reset their visa.
