Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, March 12, 2025

A growing international move to boycott the US is spreading from Scandinavia to Canada to the UK and beyond as consumers turn against US goods. Tesla sales are falling; and apps and online groups are springing up to help consumers choose non-US items. While boycotts have been a familiar tactic in the past " targeting apartheid South Africa and the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories -- what is striking is how quickly the second Trump administration has become a target for both consumer anger and ethically minded companies.

Group members hope the boycott can effectively pressure the US administration, and use the platform to share alternative buying options.

Meanwhile, the US economy, and those trapped in it, will find out what it means to lose out. At this rate El Rey Dotardo II will see his invitation to visit Great Britain rescinded, because, well, King Charles--who is a real king--will be busy in his garden that day, or some such left-handed reason. With his criminal convictions, Dotardo may not be able to gain entry to many other countries. Which is good for others...

Zed,

"If Trump were a smart man, a good man, an honest man, or even pass for a human being at all, none of this would be happening."

I have no idea if what Trump is doing will be good for America, but I think I see a method to his madness.

For decades, politicians have sacrificed the future for short-term gain. Currently, we're spending money that hasn't yet been earned and passing the burden onto people who aren't even born...people who have no say in the matter. We've been abusing debt for decades.

Again and again, they've implemented policies that provide short-term benefits but lead to long-term consequences.

In most cases, economic policy involves trade-offs where you can't have both unless there are special circumstances (like innovative investments or war-time production).

So where has it gotten us? An unbalanced budget and an ever-growing debt with no end in sight.

Trump is trying something different...policies that (hopefully) will lead to long-term gains and will likely come with short-term consequences.

Will it work?

I don't know. But I do see what he's trying to do (I think).

You keep dealing with Trump like he's sane. You keep trying to pound a round peg into a square hole.

Trump's behavior is much more easily explained by seeing it for what it is: the product of senility piled upon a long-term and severe mental illness.

A major symptom of that mental illness is a fierce and vengeful hatred.

It is interesting to me that you, BILL----As a representative of MAGA-----Persist in seeing what is obvious crazy as some sort of sly genius.

Jpw,

Trump won't get anywhere with policy changes if he alienates the rich.

Finding workable solutions isn't easy.

Just like Trump won't be able to get Putin to the table for peace talks with Ukraine is there isn't something in it for him (where everyone then accuses Trump of kissing Putin's behind)

If negotiating was easy, we'd see a lot less problems.

No...it's difficult.

Do you think YOU'RE the epitomy of good mental health?

Frankly...you probably have to have a really strong ego to make it in politics.

The question is do people see themselves realistically as they are.

The important part is to see yourself realistically.

The emergency that Trump declared that gave him the authority to implement these tariffs can be rescinded by congress if only they hadn't ceded their authority to do so . That's right, republicans gave away congress's authority to put Trump in check. Why would they do that? It's obvious that they want to trash the US economy just as much as Trump does. That's is probably why they are not condemning Trump for chaos that he is causing.
