Progressive Populist Graham Platner, despite a spat of last minute negative headlines, handily won Maine's Democratic Senate primary and will face Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who ran unchallenged, in November.

Maine Democrats screwed this one up even if Platner ends up winning the seat. He is not a man to be trusted. I'd vote 3rd party for Senate in the general election if I were a Maine voters.

If you wanted to commit suicide at the national level.

Platner may not be trustworthy. Collins and her ilk are without doubt not trustworthy.

I don't think it's a hard decision.

Here's what I predict happens. Platner had no real opposition in his race. I suspect he has many dirty secrets still buried or not fully exposed. The GOP is going to pour a ton of money into this race and dig up all that dirt. They are going to find more about the controversies that already follow him such as that nazi tattoo, his views on police, abuse victims, women, lies told about his military service and who knows what else he has hidden. They will find all the dumb stuff he has said on the internet and he's going to spend much of his campaign apologizing and blaming it on PTSD. I won't be surprised to see allegations of domestic abuse and sexual assault surface. GOP voters have shown they are willing to overlook horrible behavior, criminal even, but I we are going to end up learning things about Platner that is going to result in a lot of democrats turning their backs on him.

Which is exactly why their attacks couldn't work, won't work.

I think that we all understand that Trump/MAGA, who are nihilists, tries to use the moral feelings against those who still have moral feelings.

Platner will have the chance to prove he's a good man. All he has to do is fight against evil the way he says he will.

Not unreasoned or inaccurate understanding of his opposition. I feel that Zed phrases all of our hopes "All he has to do is fight against evil the way he says he will."

What kind of political life and death we are witnessing him invent?

I agree that without the gusto of a con-artist, blood thirst of a fund manager or realtor and if his greatest appeal is that he isn't "theirs" his purity will constantly be tested.

Imo, remaining true to himself is easier than becoming another Fetterman.. but you are right, thar be shades of Palin.

His honesty is his shield, so far.

Prior allegations of sexual assault and domestic abuse are serious.. By your logic there will be more. Imo he might gain populist support for disclosing everything.

The tattoo is just one of the many red flags so I guess you didn't you bother to read what I wrote.

You've shown time and again that your judgement is not to be trusted. If you trust Platner then that is not a good sign to me because other people you've trusted include Putin and Trump. You trusted him so much that you voted for him at least once.

Trump is horrible but that doesn't mean that Platner is a good choice. I look at his record and I see a guy who has said and done a lot of highly questionable things in his life. I see a guy who strikes me a liar and his been called out by others close to him as being such. I see a guy who reminds me a lot of Markwayne Mullin, Pete Hegseth, Lauren Boebert and a bunch of other unqualified officials who have track records of treating others like garbage but MAGATS have elevated to powerful positions anyway.
Platner's politics may be different than them but simply expressing some liberal views is not sufficient to me. You have to prove to me you are a person who can get things done and Platner has never done that. He's not even able to support himself financially without relying on income from his mom and his disability payment.

What attributes does anyone see in him that they can point to and say this person should hold one of the most powerful jobs in the country?

He's a Reliable Democratic Vote.

That's Plenty.

Fetterman Isn't even that.

What "Qualifications" does that Moron have?

I want to be clear, I'm not aware of assault or abuse allegations that have been made against him but based on reports of his past behavior I will not be surprised if some surface.

#13 | Posted by johnny_hotsauce at 2026-06-10 06:59 PM | Reply

I Don't "Trust" Platner.

I just don't see any of your complaints about him as Disqualifying in light of Fetterman, Trump, Miss Lindsey etc.

He's a reliable Progressive vote in my opinion.

Is Collins?

Flipping that seat by Anyone Democratic is a win, not a cause for Fear and Trepidation.

Do you think Platner is just not Qualified?

Elective office Means anyone who can WIN IS Qualified.

If you think he's unelectable say so but, Please, is Trump "Qualified" to be President?

He obviously IS because he Won Two Elections regardless of his "Background".

You're a Snob.

Yea.

But that's been one of the biggest swing demographics.

A lot of Gen Z voted for the first time in 2024 and the podcast bros were pushing heavily for Trump.

A lot of that naivety has faded as they live through his presidency.

5. It is not a long jump at all for anyone who willingly sports a Nazi tattoo to psychopath.

Electing a Democrat who has a Nazi tattoo would have been unfathomable in this country until this week apparently. And it's not a slope the Democrats want to approach.

Yeah, the party isn't supposed to own the primaries (McGovern and all that), but did no one in the Maine Democratic Party raise a flag before things got here? No viable candidate?

Hard To Kill

Why MAGA's Hit Job On Platner Failed

16. I don't know the answer, but has one generation ever voted much differently than their parents?

That was the expectation in 1972. Didn't work out too well.

Working-class Maine is the real Maine.

The boatyards, the night shifts, the people doing the hard math on the family budget at the kitchen table in January. Platner knows them because he is one of them. Collins stopped knowing them somewhere around her second term, around the time "I'm concerned" and "pearl clutching" became a gag.

She is hard to beat. I won't pretend otherwise. But her clucking about Platner's personal life doesn't begin to offset the grim arithmetic she's responsible for. Mainers are hurting, and she has empowered the man causing it at every single step, then furrowed her brow about it afterward, every time, on schedule.

The hit job assumed we'd flinch. Turns out the flaw in the plan was the same flaw it's always been. They forgot what a man looks like when he refuses to apologize for being human, and instead apologizes only for what actually warrants it.

That man is harder to kill than they think.

Thank you for the recommendation.

The difference I've seen in the populace is that 2008 brought out a lot of people who've never voted before, and it wasn't for McCain.

And now their kids are voting, with their only sense of the present and history and the way the world works being what they've experienced and been told since 2001. Along with their parents' guidance.

Imagine your brain on the twenty-first century.

How would you describe a marine sergeant, college dropout who is running a failing business, married to an elementary school art teacher and has a net worth of $300K, over half of which is based on his home? Is he secretly part of the east coast ivory tower elite?
