If you wanted to commit suicide at the national level.

Platner may not be trustworthy. Collins and her ilk are without doubt not trustworthy.

I don't think it's a hard decision.

Here's what I predict happens. Platner had no real opposition in his race. I suspect he has many dirty secrets still buried or not fully exposed. The GOP is going to pour a ton of money into this race and dig up all that dirt. They are going to find more about the controversies that already follow him such as that nazi tattoo, his views on police, abuse victims, women, lies told about his military service and who knows what else he has hidden. They will find all the dumb stuff he has said on the internet and he's going to spend much of his campaign apologizing and blaming it on PTSD. I won't be surprised to see allegations of domestic abuse and sexual assault surface. GOP voters have shown they are willing to overlook horrible behavior, criminal even, but I we are going to end up learning things about Platner that is going to result in a lot of democrats turning their backs on him.

Which is exactly why their attacks couldn't work, won't work.

I think that we all understand that Trump/MAGA, who are nihilists, tries to use the moral feelings against those who still have moral feelings.

Platner will have the chance to prove he's a good man. All he has to do is fight against evil the way he says he will.

Not unreasoned or inaccurate understanding of his opposition. I feel that Zed phrases all of our hopes "All he has to do is fight against evil the way he says he will."

What kind of political life and death we are witnessing him invent?

I agree that without the gusto of a con-artist, blood thirst of a fund manager or realtor and if his greatest appeal is that he isn't "theirs" his purity will constantly be tested.

Imo, remaining true to himself is easier than becoming another Fetterman.. but you are right, thar be shades of Palin.

His honesty is his shield, so far.

Prior allegations of sexual assault and domestic abuse are serious.. By your logic there will be more. Imo he might gain populist support for disclosing everything.

The tattoo is just one of the many red flags so I guess you didn't you bother to read what I wrote.

You've shown time and again that your judgement is not to be trusted. If you trust Platner then that is not a good sign to me because other people you've trusted include Putin and Trump. You trusted him so much that you voted for him at least once.

Trump is horrible but that doesn't mean that Platner is a good choice. I look at his record and I see a guy who has said and done a lot of highly questionable things in his life. I see a guy who strikes me a liar and his been called out by others close to him as being such. I see a guy who reminds me a lot of Markwayne Mullin, Pete Hegseth, Lauren Boebert and a bunch of other unqualified officials who have track records of treating others like garbage but MAGATS have elevated to powerful positions anyway.
Platner's politics may be different than them but simply expressing some liberal views is not sufficient to me. You have to prove to me you are a person who can get things done and Platner has never done that. He's not even able to support himself financially without relying on income from his mom and his disability payment.

What attributes does anyone see in him that they can point to and say this person should hold one of the most powerful jobs in the country?

I Don't "Trust" Platner.

I just don't see any of your complaints about him as Disqualifying in light of Fetterman, Trump, Miss Lindsey etc.

He's a reliable Progressive vote in my opinion.

Is Collins?

Flipping that seat by Anyone Democratic is a win, not a cause for Fear and Trepidation.

Do you think Platner is just not Qualified?

Elective office Means anyone who can WIN IS Qualified.

If you think he's unelectable say so but, Please, is Trump "Qualified" to be President?

He obviously IS because he Won Two Elections regardless of his "Background".

5. It is not a long jump at all for anyone who willingly sports a Nazi tattoo to psychopath.

Electing a Democrat who has a Nazi tattoo would have been unfathomable in this country until this week apparently. And it's not a slope the Democrats want to approach.

Yeah, the party isn't supposed to own the primaries (McGovern and all that), but did no one in the Maine Democratic Party raise a flag before things got here? No viable candidate?

Working-class Maine is the real Maine.

The boatyards, the night shifts, the people doing the hard math on the family budget at the kitchen table in January. Platner knows them because he is one of them. Collins stopped knowing them somewhere around her second term, around the time "I'm concerned" and "pearl clutching" became a gag.

She is hard to beat. I won't pretend otherwise. But her clucking about Platner's personal life doesn't begin to offset the grim arithmetic she's responsible for. Mainers are hurting, and she has empowered the man causing it at every single step, then furrowed her brow about it afterward, every time, on schedule.

The hit job assumed we'd flinch. Turns out the flaw in the plan was the same flaw it's always been. They forgot what a man looks like when he refuses to apologize for being human, and instead apologizes only for what actually warrants it.

That man is harder to kill than they think.

Thank you for the recommendation.

The difference I've seen in the populace is that 2008 brought out a lot of people who've never voted before, and it wasn't for McCain.

And now their kids are voting, with their only sense of the present and history and the way the world works being what they've experienced and been told since 2001. Along with their parents' guidance.

Trump is the GOP's Bill Clinton. On a personal level he's a POS. On policy he's a mixed bag. His tariffs are terrible and implemented likely in an unconstitutional way. He's made some terrible cabinet choices like Noem and Bondi. A targeted strike taking out Iran's nuclear facility was a good move. Going to war, without congressional approval, has been pure folly. Securing the southern border to almost unprecedented levels has been probably his best achievement, especially after Biden's handlers opened the border to unprecedented level. In reality, that couldn't be further from the truth. This administration is gutting our Republic as we know it and they provided the exact framework for doing so during the campaign and blatantly lied to the citizens about implementing it. I don't know if I've even encountered a bigger self professed know-it-all in my life than you. You treat your opinions as unassailable facts. It's become so predictable.

It's not just me, dumbf&^%. There are stories galore of damaged or destroyed relationships because of the repulsive nature of the MAGA mindset and what your support of it says about you and your lack of morals, character, values, integrity ect ect.

The country is very polarized and it's not left vs right, it's MAGA vs the rest which, at this point in time, is like a 30/70 split.

The thing is, I think you know this, which is why you gloss over the ugly parts to sell things as positives. Duhhhhh SoUtHeRn BorDrExz!!! Meanwhile, you neglect to mention the 4th amendment evisceration, human and economic costs and insane levels of militarization of federal LEO to invade and violate citizen's rights in their own neighborhoods and cities. You neglect to include descriptions of why his cabinet choices are so terrible, of the weaponized incompetence that is devastating US science and innovation, education, public health, counter terrorism, safe air travel, accurate weather prediction/monitoring ect ect ect.

The only way you say "mixed bag policy-wise" with as straight face is by ignoring the ugly parts you don't want to deal with. For that, you are complete and utter dogs*&^. Period.

Neither, apparently.
A quick search tells me it was a Totenkopf(deathshead)

It does look bad ass and, if you're as ignorant of WW2 History particulars as most Americans, that's all the associations a young ex-Marine is likely to put with it. He was drunk, with his buddies and it looked cool. Absolutely nothing he has said since raises any red flags that he holds beliefs consistent with a fascist/totalitarian mindset. In fact, everything I've heard and read from him tilts the opposite direction.
Frankly, I suspect his eloquent stands at the Bernie Sanders end of the political spectrum are what have set off all the "scandal" talk. Wall St and their stooges really hate folks like him.

Trump has created a CULT OF PERSONALITY that No Other President in modern American history even approaches.

His name on the Stimulus Checks, His Face on the proposed $250 Bill, The Trump Kennedy Center Brewhaha, the 250 foot Arch to be built in DC,the Ballroom Debacle.

Trump started an Illegal War of Aggression by MURDERING the Entire Iranian Leadership while Negotiations were ongoing.

Trump has Gutted the Endangered Species Act for "National Security".

All of these Obscene policies done With ZERO input from Congress or the Courts.

Trump is Easily the Most AUTHORITARIAN President Ever.

No other President of Either party comes close to his record of Contempt for Rule of Law and the Electorate.

Then there's ICE and the Illegal deportations for protected 1st amendment speech, the MURDERS OF Americans engaging in Legal protests.

The Weaponization of the Legal System to Persecute Anyone he finds Annoying or Resistant to his policies.

The Pardons of Criminals he Admires

34 Felony CONVICTIONS, not Charges, CONVICTIONS.

Two Impeachments.

Trump is a TYRANT.

35% of the Country WORSHIPS the ground he walks on.

America is as bad as 1940s Germany.

We Reelected this Abortion; KNOWING WHAT HE WAS.

WE ARE TOTALLY SCREWED.

en.wikipedia.org
Totenkopf (German: [totnk"pf], lit.'dead person's head') is a German compound word for death's head. The word is often used to denote a figurative, graphic or sculptural symbol, common in Western culture, consisting of the representation of a human skull " usually frontal, more rarely in profile with or without the mandible. In some cases, other human skeletal parts may be added, often including two crossed long bones (femurs) depicted below or behind the skull (when it may be referred to in English as a "skull and crossbones"). The human skull is an internationally used symbol for death, the defiance of death, danger, or the dead, as well as piracy or toxicity.

Maine is like 1-1.5% Jewish.

It's probably the sorry truth that someone from Maine doesn't benefit from the critical mass of Jews needed to bring about a broad cultural awareness of Jews.

You know, like I got living outside NYC where the schools were closed for Jewish holidays. And some of the stores downtown were closed on Fridays. And some of my friends didn't go to CCD, they went to Hebrew School.

I work with a guy who didn't see a black person in person until he was eighteen years old. Can you believe that? So he occasionally says some racist sounding ----, but it's really just ignorance.

Sounds like you answered your own question in the first part of the sentence. Let's check on this guy after some time in the public eye, or even where Platner shifts to before the election, if he wants to win, which politicians usually like to do. One exception might be GHW Bush's second campaign.

Politicians I admire who loved to win and kick political ass? One was Jimmy Carter, who ran a segregationist campaign to get elected governor of Georgia in 1970, a blatantly cynical move to attract the Wallace voters. The rest of his life, before and after, showed something different.

His presidential library, last I heard, mostly ignored his gubernatorial campaign.

On Robert Byrd:

www.wnycstudios.org

In 1997, he had this advice for up-and-coming politicians: "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck. Once you've made that mistake, you inhibit your operations in the political arena."

What goes around comes around, huh? Would you have suspicions about a 40-year-old nominally Democratic politician who willfully attended a Klan meeting with his pals in his youth?

I would.

Gee, a Russian psyops move to divide the lefties? A Mainechurian Nazi?

Tattoos in general are extremely widespread compared to when I was a kid. Moreso for the DR contingent getting Jell-O on their meal tray.

A common complaint from people who remember when tattoos "meant something" is that tattoos have been democratized to the point they don't convey a clear meaning like before.

Tattoos don't always mean what they used to. Go into your local trashy bar and you'll probably find woman with sea sparrows, even though she's never been to sea. She just like the design, saw it on other people, and the tattoo artist isn't here to be a gatekeeper.

This guy's tattoo probably doesn't mean much more than "Me and the boys got inked up with some fierce looking tattoos, as soldiers do when completing our male bonding rituals."

I have a general feeling of horror at Killing.

In cases of Medical necessity, obviously Abortion is the right thing.

Abortion because the Sex of the child is unacceptable? Disgusting.

Abortion because of Rape obviously, yes.

Early Abortion before the third Trimester?

Yes. For any Reason.

Late Abortion only if the life of the mother is at risk, or Rape.

I don't have any control over policy. I don't want any control over policy.

When Platner wrote he wanted Adventure and to KILL some People that hit me hard.

The Casual Nature of that Statement.

My sister's second husband was a Navy Seal.

He killed dozens of people as a Sniper, never bragged about it, and was not openly proud of his "achievements", my sister divorced him after about 5 years. She couldn't take the hatred of Muslims and open Contempt for humanity He displayed. He always called Muslims Psychotic Trash.

He was easily the most ------ Up Guy I ever had the Displeasure of meeting.

So if Platner repeatedly put himself into that environment to Kill for Adventure?

He has No Place in Public Life....PERIOD.

In my Humble Opinion.

I can't Vote in Maine Anyhow,so my Opinion is of no Consequence.

Take it for what it's worth.... Not Much at All

It's sure as hell not about Cosmic Reality.

Which Is Inscrutable at Best.

I am one Powerless Person, who doesn't WANT any Power over others.

My Feelings of Concience are Personal and Individual.

The bottom line on this thread to me seems that the GOP is in panic mode because they fear the loss a Senate seat.

So the GOP is pulling out all the stops in its attacks to try to stop that end-result.

To me it seems interesting that the GOP is so concerned about losing this one Senate seat.

Does the GOP think their majority in the Senate is that much of a risk?

Given that Democrats tried to bankrupt him, imprison him and even have his name removed from the ballot after he anno7nced his run, it certainly stands to reason that if the Epstein Files had anything real on Trump it would have been leaked. Fact is the story was dead until Tr7mp moronically resurrected it on the campaign trail and now that what has been released has been selective it looks like his team has something to hide and maybe they do. Yeah, boy. Another freethinker we want in office.

Were you this way as a twenty-year-old? And who were your heroes?

I don't care about the answer to the second question. But who are heroes to people 40 and younger these days? I have two thirty-something sons who are cynical as hell (and two lovely daughters-in-law with tattoos, by the way), and they mostly looked up to musicians and writers for their art, not their fashion.

One more thing: Being brought up Jewish in the 60s and 70s, tattoos were a no-go. The way I came up, even in assimilationist Reform Judaism, is that tattoos keep you from being buried in a Jewish cemetery.

Not piercings, though. Mama needs earrings.

And my sons went through their ritual circumcision at age eight days without their permission, so maybe they think they've been through enough bodily transformation. Neither has a tattoo or a piercing, but they are millennials through and through, as are their wives -- sometimes to my shaking of head, but they are who they are. Love 'em all.

Towards the end of their lives, George Wallace and Lee Atwater both recanted their vile racist lives.

Mother Teresa and Graham Greene made death-bed confessions contrary to the lives they led.

The late USAG Ramsey Clark (D) successfully prosecuted cases in the 1960s to which he later "regretted" and then spent the remainder of his life atoning for that by championing the underdog both in the US and abroad.

William Shakespeare, careful to avoid charges of lese majeste and offending the murderous Queen Elizabeth, finally "shaded" her using coded language in The Tempest after she passed. By throwing in the grotesque Caliban as the son of Sycorax, the Immortal Bard scored a "two-for-one" by shading her son with few the wiser (Latin experts and scholars).

In post-revolutionary France, former master criminal Francois Vidocq was hired to help create the Police de Surete ("security police") in France.

Democrat NYC Zohran Mamdani appointed Stanley Richards, a former Riker's Island inmate, to be the Commissioner of the NYC Dept of Corrections.

Fictionally, a world class cat burglar was "turned in place" to put his enormous talents to work for the OSI in a popular 1960s TV series.

There you go again.

No, the vast majority of Ukrainians do not love or support Nazi symbols. In fact, Ukrainian law strictly bans Nazi and Communist ideologies and symbols.

Like many European countries and the United States, Ukraine has a small, far-right neo-Nazi fringe. Far-right political parties enjoy almost no electoral support in Ukraine and consistently fail to win significant seats in parliament.

SOME Ukrainians live that shit. You would also be accurate in saying SOME Americans live that shit too.

Are you pointing to a similarity between Ukraine and the US in regard to the political influence of nazis? They're real, they exist but their actual political influence is virtually non-existent?

Fair Enough.

No one "deserves" to get invaded.

Putin IS a Turd.

But the Nazi Regalia IS a thing in Ukraine with Some Units.

Not all.

as always leftist stupidity gets worse by the day,,,

just heard interview with two of the people who were paid TONS of cash to vet
this nazi misogynist......and they said they found nothing about his past...

wow.....as one said...they paid millions for a bad product and that defines
left wing policies.

MORE HYPOCRISY .....how many years has the party of hate degenerated what they
ignorantly called "masculine toxicity" ? BWAAAAA and look who "you people"
have chosen to "die" in Maine over.

Maga's influence is non existent?

My point underlying all of this is, historically, this isn't a good PR shift for the party, never good at putting out a message.

Sure Maine could do a lot better than Collins. When things are this close, Maine Democrats could have found someone else. I admire Cor's zeal, but I don't buy into US party politics being 100 percent Israel controlled.

I guess Democrats wore big hair in the 80s too.

Unless Democrats are the party of redemption now? By what means? Should we call in some pastors to find out? Which ones? To what degree should they be associated with peace churches? Defund the DoD and feed people? That kind of religion in politics?

Hey, I wouldn't complain. My main source of income is the religious left.

Lotsa cultural trends. Guy's 40 years old. So, he's a decade into outgrowing 20 years of it?

Any legislators locally or statewide in Maine who've served more than a decade? All bought and paid to shut up?

"I don't buy into US party politics being 100 percent Israel controlled."

I don't think that's the actual complaint:
The parties are identical on Israel.
Israel isn't a thing we get to vote on.

Another way to ask this is to clarify if you really believe MAGA and NAZI in the US isn't necessarily the same group.

Is all of MAGA Nazi or just part? Or is it a fringe portion of MAGA?

There may be individuals out there who don't understand that they are part of a fascist movement.

But MAGA is a fascist movement.
