Just a fact-based reminder

Trump is a temporary resident of the White House. He does not own it, nor does have even have control over it.

That building belongs to us, the US citizens.

Any significant change should ONLY come at the approval of the people's representatives-Congress.

And for those arguing that the people aren't paying for it, that is decidedly NOT a good thing. It is, in fact, decidedly, a bad thing.

That means ONLY that unknown actors are paying for access to the president, i.e. bribing him. That is OUR building, WE should be deciding it's construction and WE should be paying for it.

The "wrong" of this is so monumental as to beggar words.

This action has hit me harder in ways that other even worse things haven't, even the murdering he is doing.

Maybe it is my love of history, maybe it is my particular reverence for our heritage. Maybe it was I was prepared for the assaults on our liberties, I was prepared for murder, I was prepared for fascism. I was not prepared for the destruction of one of our nation's primary symbols.

I FEEL like I felt during the assault on the Capitol, like I am being violated.

This man has zero respect for our country; it is beyond despairing.

Tearing down a wing of the WH to build a pointless ballroom is a breathtaking display of disrespect for our country

All because one single person wanted it.

He doesn't care about the countless Americans who hold that building precious as a secular symbol of the greatness of the promise of America.

He simply does not care about our history, ANYTHING that came before him means nothing to him.

It represents in a real tangible way how little he cares about what America is all about.

How is that in any way comparable to what Trump is doing?

Your observation about the Rose Garden is that Trump previously desecrated that space.

Again, the Rose Garden was the brain child of a beloved First Lady who was the wife of an assassinated president.

As such the Rose Garden holds special meaning to Americans or at least those who cherish their nation's history.

NO ONE is saying Trump and Melania cannot have an impact, even a permanent impact on the house. That is absolutely appropriate EVEN IF ------- IS A DICTATOR

We are saying that what ------- does should be respectful of the history of the White House. There are MANY ways he could have changed the White House and it's surroundings WITHOUT DESTROYING a third of it and then tripling the size of the building with a tacky pointless ballroom.

CNN report from 2010: $376 million White House renovation during the Obama Administration. Where was the Democrat outrage then? Also that was paid for by the taxpayers.
