Dolly Parton Dies
Dolly Parton, who rose from a loving if impoverished upbringing in the mountains of East Tennessee to become the "Queen of Country" music, a Hollywood star, and a beloved American icon, has died, her family announced on Tuesday. Parton was 80.

"Never ignore your roots " your home or your hair."
Indeed. Voice, style, personality, all put to more than just personal use. Beyond well done. RIP.

Dolly Parton proved that you can celebrate southern white culture without being a racist bigot.
She's an American treasure.

My 4 favorites of dolly ...
" Here you come again" " I will always love you"....

Not only did she never forget her roots, she was quite proud of them.
That pride showed in her music.
She was one of the greats.
R.I.P. Dolly Rebecca Parton.

For some reason I thought she was older than that. No idea why.

Trump Reacts To Dolly Parton's Death With Significant Act President Donald Trump said that flags will be lowered to honor Dolly Parton, whose death was announced Tuesday.
"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away," Trump wrote Tuesday on Truth Social. "This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP"
Trump acts classy for the first time in his life.

The mountains of East Tennessee are beautiful, and she was a beautiful product of them.
She provided tons of books to that region and beyond, and I'm sure her estate will try to ensure that the East TN mountains are as uninfluenced as possible by the continuing rush toward idiocy.

"flags will be lowered"
Ever notice how often this happens when Republicans are in the White House?
They really love lowering the flag and wallowing in despair.
It reinforces how horrible America is, in their minds.

It is one thing all Americans of all stripes can agree on Dolly was a great woman and an American treasure
One thing about her I always admired was her assumed faith
I have no idea how religious a person she was but suspect religion was important to her
She acted like a religious person should act. Not with flaunting her faith but living by its preceptsr of kindness and generosity and humility
She was a true class act a great business woman ahead of her time a tremendous performer and the world is a lesser place for her leaving
May her family and friends gain comfort from the knowledge of the good she put in the world and her lasting legacy of kindness and generosity
Dolly, you will be missed

24. People in vast parts of the country will scratch their heads, if the flags are even lowered.
I wonder, too, if Trump thinks a period of national mourning will divert any focus on him.
When DJT goes tits up (thanks to LYD for a post sometime ago), the national reactions are "gonna be wild."
An entire nation in PTS.

I grew up near where she attended high school (Sevier County HS). For years she did a benefit concert where the profit went to help out the high school band, in which she was an alumna, playing flute.
She was a good person in many ways. Dollywood was too much for me, I never bought a ticket. But, she did a lot of charitable work.

It's hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and " as if that wasn't enough " helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly's family and her many, many fans.

Dummkopf Trumpf is a tasteless clod with a tin ear.
Sniveled the doofus (13 June 2025): "I could have been a flutist," after an aptitude test apparently revealed he was "brilliant" at music. He bleated that he could have been an "incredible musician," if he'd taken a different path.
Mozart said the only worse than a flute are two flutes.
And note the young Dummkopf Trumpf was given an aptitude test for a musical instrument, not machinist tools as recently advocated by US Secretary of the Uneducated uber-wealthy heiress Linda McMahon.
Teen idol Elvis Presley was playing the guitar on TV in the 1950s.The morbidly obese oligarch was approximately seventeen years old when the Beatles exploded on to America and even more youngsters wanted to learn and play the guitar. Maybe the drums, too, but I'm not certain. Ringo Starr was certainly able and competent, but no Keith Moon or Charlie Rich.
And while we appreciate the flutes and fifes in Beethoven's martial and immortal Seventh Symphony in A, the Grand Maestro never composed a flute symphony as he did for the piano and violin.
We shall be enjoying that tonight over a chukka of bridge.
Dummkopf Trumpf is the "Anti-Beethoven."
And more importantly, thanks for the memories Dolly Parton.
