Newsmax Projects Dems Win Senate, Sweep Congress
www.newsmax.com

... Newsmax projected Tuesday night that Democrats have won control of the U.S. Senate, completing a congressional sweep after the network earlier projected Democrats would capture the House in a major setback for President Donald Trump and his Republican allies.

The projected Senate takeover came as Democrats notched victories in several Republican strongholds, amid voter frustration over the economy, rising prices, the war in Iran and declining approval ratings for Trump.

The Senate projection followed a series of Democrat victories in closely watched races, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Ohio.

In North Carolina, former Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper defeated Trump-backed Republican Michael Whatley, flipping a seat held by retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis.

In Texas, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, delivering a major upset in a state that has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in more than three decades, according to The Associated Press. ...

Iowa's governor's mansion has flipped to Democrat Rob Sand, as Republican Zach Lahn lost his bid to hold the seat for Republicans. Meanwhile, in the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Josh Turek is leading Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and is favored to win but the race has not yet been called.

Democrats secured control of Congress on Tuesday, flipping the Senate and the House with victories in parts of the country that had been safely Republican for decades, according to Associated Press projections, signaling a sea change in Washington's balance of power.

The wave of Democratic victories came in remarkable form, with deep-red areas toppling to Democrats by decisive margins, and candidates pulling off wins thought to be pipe dreams months ago.

Voters handed the party commanding control of Congress, putting a powerful check on President Trump during his final two years in office. Unified control will provide Democrats with broad investigative and subpoena powers, authority over presidential appointments, control of legislation and federal spending, and the ability to pursue impeachment proceedings.

With 97% of the votes counted there are only 28 votes currently separating the two candidates in the Mississippi senate race. I feel it's a good time to point out that it is the only state in the nation that does not have a law that does not have either an automatic or candidate requested recount law. The only way a recount can occur in the state is via court order.

The state legislature considered an automatic recount law in 2026 but it did not become law.
