Instead, masked federal agents terrorized our cities and killed innocent people, millions of Americans have lost health care coverage, and tariffs coupled with a needless war have made our economy worse.

Now, a historic Election Night has shown just how much they overplayed their hand. Even before midnight, it was clear that the midterms were a bloodbath for Republicans everywhere " an overwhelming repudiation of Trump and the party who has explicitly and implicitly supported him along the way. I don't think it's a mandate for many of the lefts policies, but it is actually a rebuke of Donald Trump. The problem is they'll take it as a mandate and go nuts like the republicans did when they interpreted it as a mandate.

These elections aren't mandates, we keep electing the opposite of what's in office at the moment because neither R's or D's can behave like adults once they're in office.

My theory is Americans got sick of Open Contempt for Rule of Law.

This Shellacking was too widespread and diffuse across every state to be explained easily by the Usual bread and butter issues.

It points in my opinion to deep outrage about Aggressive War, War Crimes, and ICE Abuses. CONGRESS Enabled Deep Criminality by the Executive abetted by the SCOTUS.

This is the reason in my opinion.

The Statehouse Tsunami was also driven by exasperation with Supermajorities Comtemptuous of Citizens basic Rights.

Not the Usual things that motivate voters.

Trump has been governing like someone who doesn't care about the midterm elections at all.

He doesn't care about the future of the country.

He cares about:

1. Getting richer
2. Putting his name on stuff
3. Keeping the epstein files hidden
4. Staying out of jail

End of list.

The supreme court already told him he can't go to jail, so he was free to do #1 as much as he wanted.
And the iran war was part of his effort for #3.

Ah, then you must recognize its Definition as extremely similar to your Cult:

"Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement. It first emerged in Italy after World War I under the leadership of Benito Mussolini.

Core Characteristics of Fascism

Dictatorial Leadership: Centers power in a single, autocratic leader who demands total loyalty and submission.

Extreme Nationalism and Ultranationalism: Exalts the nation"and often a specific ethnic or racial group"above individual interests and rights.

Suppression of Opposition: Forcibly silences political dissent, bans rival political parties, dismantles democratic institutions, and uses secret police or state surveillance.

Militarism and Violence: Glorifies military strength, views conflict or national struggle as therapeutic or necessary, and relies on paramilitary groups (such as Mussolini's Blackshirts).

State Control and Corporatism: Regulates society and the economy heavily, often controlling nominally private corporate enterprise through state-mandated planning, cartels, and national interest mandates.

Scapegoating: Capitalizes on social and economic anxieties by blaming internal or external enemies"such as minority groups, immigrants, leftists, or rival nations." more

If the Dems go down this road like they have in the past and try to act like there is now a "mandate" to do whatever they please, they'll only drive people back to supporting the GOP come 2028.

Congressional dems, along with some republicans that can see the writing on the wall, will pass votes to help the American people and dare Trump to veto them. When he does, dems will recruit repubs to join in on the override. If they don't, they subject themselves to the same asskicking that their colleagues just went through the next time they stand for re-election. People will not forget that Trump could not have done the things that he did without his enablers! Last Tuesday's result proved that there is no such thing as a safe Red State/District.

The Dems will think this means every single policy plank of theirs is green lit, not the obvious core ones of economy and security.

If they immediately start trying to tick off their list of firsts, it's going to swing back the other way. Nothing about this election signals agreement with social policy.

"The Dems will think this means every single policy plank of theirs is green lit, not the obvious core ones of economy and security."

I dunno. Talarico already said he's there to make life more affordable for his constituents, not to push the Woke Agenda.

But I think I agree with what you're saying. If Democrats don't focus and dare I say succeed on making like more affordable for Americans as their top priority, they will likely squander this opportunity.

Then again -- Democrats don't have enough votes to override a veto. So Trump could simply block most any legislation they actually try.

The choice of Speaker is going to be a big one for Democrats. I don't see Jeffries as being all that capable of drawing in Republicans. Of selling the whatever Democrats push in national sound bites. Schumer also needs to go.

Democrats have to show it's not just two more years of business as usual. Republicans of course would love to constrain Democrats to two more years of business as usual, for the reasons you mention.

Maybe listen to them?

Jeffries (soon to be the new Speaker of the House) noted that the focus should be on finding common ground to help the American people rather than prioritizing investigations.

Appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Jeffries remarked, "The American people don't want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf because life is way too expensive". He added that the party ran and won on an "affordability" platform, particularly targeting housing, health care, groceries, and gas.

No, most people think Mike Johnson had the ability to just not swear in the new House members. We need a show like school house rock but made for adults that they'll actually watch, and teaches the way our government functions. The House is not a continuing body, the speaker does not continue from one term to the next. Every rep is up for election every 2 years and everyone is sworn in together after a new speaker is voted on. Even reporters out there asking Mike Johnson if he will swear in new members right up to the election were not helping. So No, the average american slides through their US Constitution education quickly and without retaining any of it. I see where you're going, but "affordability" and "DSA agenda" have a lot more overlap than you want them to.

For example, cancelling student debt puts a trillion dollars in the hands of the people who are bound to spend it at a pretty high multiplier effect.

And Medicare For All would reduce the nation's health bills by approximately as much as the health insurance companies earn in profits.

Abolishing ICE won't save much money per se, but making the United States a country safe for immigrants will have profound positive economic consequences. Though probably not enough as making the United States a country unsafe for immigrants has already had profound negative economic consequences. Same too with global trade and tariffs.

A sovereign wealth fund is also an idea that if implemented well would benefit every American, much like the Alaska Permanent Dividend fund puts money in every Alaskan's pocket every year.

Let me know if any of this math isn't mathing for you!

Cut spending. Not just balance the budget, surpluses.

Pay off the National Debt.

Gingrich and Clinton proved it can be done.

Build more refineries and drill. Become independent of foreign fuel.

Close the 900+ military bases and bring the troops home. Cancel the NDAA. Why should the US finance 70k troops on Europe?

Time the treaties are revised. WWII ended in 1945. There hadn't been a declaration since 1941.

DSA running rampant... Let's pick one example.

Mamdani's rent freeze, coupled with his push for non profits have a right of first refusal to purchase properties deemed distressed by the gov't.

This is a property grab under the guise of sticking to greedy landlords. It's already forcing black owners out of the properties and will continue to get worse.

"Average" citizen apartment owners operate on thin margins that can make proper maintenance and affordable rent prices difficult.

But these are basically slum lords. Abandoned apartments, condemned apartments, dilapidated utilities...

I can empathize for some of these former property owners.

But they were providing dangerous living conditions. And now they're not.

Fix it, or condemn. This isn't anything new in this country.

"Mamdani's rent freeze,"

That's not a good example. That's only realistically possible in a place like NYC, where they have true rent controlled units.
In other words, Mamdani doesn't need legislation to do that. He just needs an advisory board to agree.
DSA would need an Act of Congress for a nationwide rent freeze, which wouldn't even get all Democrat votes, and would never survive Trump's veto even if it did.

Give me another one.

I'm at the point that I hope we give these socialists enough time to really shit the bed and show what their visions would look like in a country like the USA. Just because it works in Norway, doesn't mean it will work here. But most of you who embrace it aare too retarded to actually think.

We're being lectured by a guy who voted for a born-rich lifelong con artist to be his warrior against the elites.

Go get an education and learn what socialist means.

You ignorant moron.

He also voted for Ken Paxton, knowing the guy defends pedophiles and releases them back into the community.

I didn't vote for Ken Paxton. Not because he defends pedos, that part is more propaganda by you morons. I voted independent because we deserved better than the two parties were offering.

You want to run retail stores, gas stations, electric supply like it's a fire station, right? While the government subsidizes the private ones. That's the stupidest shit I ever heard.

Last minute change of heart?

Trump won't be happy to find out you abandoned him.

Democratic socialism.

Like what Canada, Australia and Europe (along with several other countries) have.

What's unfortunate about morons like you is, this has been explained ad nauseam and you're still too stupid to understand.

You seem content with letting all our taxes get funneled into the military industrial complex to wage wars around the world, and for the rest to be given as gifts to the wealthy as subsidies.

These progressives got themselves in office with what I see as delusional thinking and people so desperate financially they voted for them.

I listen to them and they have no actual solutions.

They got elected by being problem pointer-outers but not problem-solvers.

Frankly, I wouldn't begin to guess what needs to be done.

Actually...I do know one thing.

Radical Islam must be put in check and stopped so they no longer threaten anyone.

Really...the same with China and Russia.

Everyone else needs to start working together if we expect peace and stability for a better future.

Define Non-Radical Islam.

How cute! Fake Plastic (and very radical) Christian is worried about Radical Islam.

All Radicals Matter!

We just had 2 years of your hateful maga vision for America.

Americans clearly have had enough of your vision.

Time for a little compassion and common sense. And accountability.

I was never solid on Paxton. He has too much baggage. That loss is Trump's fault; he could have endorsed Cornyn.

No one wants to run retail stores or gas stations. NYC is opening grocery stores in location that the capitalist markets refused to serve.

As for electric supply, how the electric system supposed to be capitalist? Are we going to have multiple companies with multiple wires and towers on the same street and you pick which one you want? Capitalism requires competition and competition is impossible for electricity, water, fire, and police, and in many cases medicine too.

Bull shit. They're already negotiating to subsidize the markets in the areas where the state stores will be opening.

"N.Y.C. Groceries initiative uses a hybrid model: the City owns the real estate and sets mandates for affordability and quality, while experienced third-party retail operators manage daily store operations. The primary drivers behind the policy include:
Combating Food Deserts & "Food Swamps": More than two dozen neighborhoods in NYC lack full-service supermarkets, leaving residents reliant on corner bodegas or dollar stores where fresh, affordable produce is scarce.
Lowering Everyday Costs: Driven by sharp inflation in basic food staples, the city aims to offer discounted prices on a "core basket" of essential foods.
Serving as a "Public Option": Traditional private supermarkets operate on narrow profit margins (1"3%) and often avoid opening in low-income neighborhoods. By removing commercial real estate acquisition costs and real estate taxes, the city seeks to force price competitiveness without requiring customers to qualify via income or means testing. "

also...

"No Direct Cash Grants: The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) clarified that the city is not offering cash grants to private grocers to offset competition from municipal stores. Expanding Existing Programs: The administration plans to expand existing tax abatements, zoning benefits, and incentive programs to help independent grocers reduce their utility, rent, and operational cost pressures"
