Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, February 20, 2026

Delivering a major blow to President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that he exceeded his authority when imposing sweeping tariffs using a law reserved for a national emergency.

The justices, divided 6-3 held that Trump's aggressive approach to tariffs on products entering the United States from across the world was not permitted under a 1977 law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The ruling was authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, who was joined by three liberal justices and two fellow conservatives, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, in the majority.

Yet another government payout to businesses at the cost to the people. Maybe was the plan all along.

World trade is already being rerouted to bypass the US.

China's overall exports are up recently, even though China exports to the US are down.

Canada and the EU are making trade deals that bypass the US.

Even though Pres Trump's emergency tariffs have been shot down, the results of them are going to be long-lasting.

Sometimes when you start a ridiculous and unnecessary trade war you lose.

When you create conditions where if you win someone has to lose then it's always possible that the loser is gonna be you.

When you create win-win conditions then the rising tide does raise more ships. (Though it still helps to actually afford to have a ship!)

I see Kavanaugh is getting a lot of (well-deserved) heat for his argument that it would be too messy and complicated to unwind and reverse the illegal tariffs.

It reminds me of the arguments that some people make that actual Marriage Equality would be too complicated if it were extended to traditional Mormons and Muslims and others who practice marriages that aren't considered "normal", even though technically they would fall under the exact same logic as when interracial and gay marriage bans were deemed unconstitutional.

#2 | POSTED BY CENSORED: No he will not - you must be confusing hi with biden and his attempt to get aroune th SCOTUS ruling concerning 'forgiving' student loans.

There is a Plan B, for President Trump, which can be effective and requires no congressional approval:

"Here's the thing the trade establishment doesn't want to think about: IEEPA doesn't just let the president regulate imports. It lets him prohibit them. And it lets him issue licenses as exceptions to that prohibition. Those aren't implied powers or creative readings. They're right there in the text of the law: the president may "prevent or prohibit" importation and may act "by means of instructions, licenses, or otherwise."

That language points to a mechanism that could reshape the global trade landscape even if every tariff the administration has imposed gets struck down."

The president also announced during the briefing that his administration would now add a 10% global tariff over and above current tariffs. He said he would sign an executive order imposing the new tariffs after the press conference."

- Anyway, when do we start bombing Iran, for Israel?

OK, ya'll aren't going to want to hear it, but I've always thought the irony was delicious.

In the story of the AC (whom DJT closely resembles in every way), there is a Covenant of Many; a peace agreement between Israel and many of her neighbors... a 7 year deal.

Half-way through, the leader of the world's most powerful military, who made the deal, breaks it by attacking... wait for it... Israel.

Now, who else would do that? Then he enters the newly built 3rd Temple (possibly complete with Trump Temple and Casino sign!) and claims to be God.

This immediately pisses off actual God, and all hell breaks loose. Literally.

Then Earth and Heaven are united as a Planet of Eden (not just a Garden), and it takes Yeshua his own self 1,000 years to teach us how to govern ourselves... so that was never going to be easy anyway.

So, a New Beginning.

Tariff Ruling Kicks Off Fight Over $170 Billion in Refunds
finance.yahoo.com

... Thousands of companies and importers are set to launch what could be a prolonged battle to try to recoup as much as $170 billion in tariffs they've already paid to the US government after the Supreme Court struck down a key tool in President Donald Trump trade policy.

The top court was silent on the topic of refunds when it ruled Friday that Trump didn't have legal authority to impose the duties under an emergency law.

"They take months and months to write an opinion, and they don't even discuss that," Trump said in a news conference after the ruling. "We'll end up being in court the next five years."

The US president said he is planning to immediately impose a fresh 10% global tariff under a different provision. But that won't stop the flood of lawsuits by companies seeking refunds. ...

CBob I wasn't happy about it from a spiritual perspective... but you can't argue with results.

Trumpers should demand their money back for all that cheap Chinese junk of his they bought... stuff they could have gotten on Temu for 5 percent of the price.
