Washington " President Trump on Friday ordered federal officials to install signs outside the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History that correct what he says is "inaccurate" information presented by the institution about American history.

Mr. Trump's directive cited a 162-page White House report released on July 4 that accused the museum of adopting "an ideological framework that no longer treats the American story as a shared national inheritance to be taught or celebrated, but as a political instrument to divide, dispirit, and discourage our citizens."

"Law & Politics

I Watched the Unhinged Anti-Smithsonian Congressional Hearing So You Don't Have To

Anthea Hartig keeps her cool on the stand, answering questions about ideological bias.

Yesterday's particularly noxious one, "Rewriting American History: Examining the Smithsonian's Efforts to Reshape the Past" emerged in response to "Saving America's Story," the report released by Trump's White House Policy Council on July 4.

The document features 160 pages of grievances about the "ideological capture" of the Smithsonian Institution, claiming that it promotes a left-wing activist agenda.

Tuesday's hearing summoned Anthea Hartig, director of the National Museum of American History, to Capitol Hill to be grilled about the findings by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform."

Republicans obviously prefer the Goebbels Propaganda Agenda:

"As the Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels orchestrated a total takeover of Germany's media, arts, and culture to build blind devotion to Adolf Hitler and enforce Nazi racial ideology.

His strategic agenda relied on centralizing power, censoring opposition, and utilizing psychology to manipulate public opinion.

The Core Goals

The "Fhrer Myth": Goebbels deliberately elevated Hitler from a politician into a messianic savior figure who could do no wrong.Dehumanizing the Enemy: He ran aggressive campaigns targeting Jews, Communists, and liberals as existential threats to the German nation."

A few years ago I visited Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello.

I was very disgusted how every exhibit along the tour, the tour guide would work in some way to disparage Jefferson.

All the things he accomplished and they were obsessed with the fact he had owned slaves. From what I've read he took much better care of them than many others.

I'm not going to defend slavery but it was woven into the fabric of those times.

I see exactly what Trump is going after. Apparently what I saw at Monticello must be compounded at the Smithsonian.

He Raped his Female slaves and sold his own kids with them into Slavery. How is that "Treating them Well". Especially the kids.

BJ, you're a Turd.

Jefferson was a Hypocrite and a Rapist.

He wrote great Fiction about "Freedom".

He didn't Really even know what it Was.

Except for the Racial Elect.

Oh, and Dudes only.

"All the things he accomplished and they were obsessed with the fact he had owned slaves"

Here's a shocker for you, BILL: Jefferson was obsessed by the simple fact he owned human beings. And he remained a perplexed hypocrite on that topic his entire life. So what? A complex hero with complicated views? Oh, the horror. So awful, being informed. Turn on the night light!!

The US also created the first modern concentration camps - for the original inhabitants of the land. There it is, live with it.

Ideology is easy. History is often hard. Definitely not a child's tale, unless one chooses to remain a child.

A complex hero with complicated views?

Like Harry Truman.

If you want your heroes to be perfect, you'll never have heroes.

No, you don't.

This stupid Trump thing simply fits his pattern of trying to subordinate American institutions to his will.

I marvel at your inability to see the tyrant and the bully in Trump, BILL.

You won't even see the sheer spite of Donald Trump, his gutter malavalency.

Won't, not can't.

#11 | Posted by BillJohnson

Donald Trump has nothing to do with America, BILL. Nothing.

As for moving away? Those of us who identify as Americans will stay to defend both the Liberal and old Conservative visions of America.

You're the radical. You leave.

Zed,

It has reached the point where all the ranting about slavery and the wrist-slashing remorse and guilt amount to little more than virtue signaling by the left.

But Democrats have lost any claim to virtue.

It started when they made the killing of unborn children part of their party platform, and it has been downhill ever since.

I've never understood the argument that a fetus is a child. Neither the "scientific" one offered by the Far Right, or the religous one, which really isn't.

I am joined in this by billions. Billions, BILL.

You people have talked yourself into the idea that abortion kills a child. And now, rather than talk anyone else into it, you put your boot on our necks about it.

I had to go check this one...

"Yes, Archie Bunker's famous wing chair from All in the Family is in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C."

"You know somethin', if you liberals go on getting your way we're all gonna hear one big, loud flush - that's the sound of the U.S. of A. going down the toilet!"

"If your spics and your spades want their rightful share of the American dream, let 'em get out there and hustle for it like I done."

"I didn't have no million people marchin' and protestin' to get my job."

"No bum that can't speak poifect English oughta stay in this country"oughta be de-exported the hell outta here!"

Not-quite-random-Archie quotes. From a character so central to American TV culture we enshrined his chair in the most prestigious American history museum that exists.

5. "I'm not going to defend slavery but it was woven into the fabric of those times."

I've taken the tour too. You were looking for hagiography to support what you thought should be heard. Why? What makes you more knowledgeable about what to present than the people actually there, who are fully versed in their material? My wife was concerned there wasn't a tour of the slave quarters. That interested her very much, and she's as southern as you get (more so as the Alzheimer's takes full hold; you can draw your own conclusions).

11. "You just hate America. Why not just move away?" Will you do that when Trumpism dies?

13. "It started when they made the killing of unborn children." Abortion goes back thousands of years.

14. "TDS has become an obsession far out of proportion to the actual problems of our time." Which are what in your opinion? And Trump is in the middle of all actual problems of our time now. He's been president of These United States for a long time over a period of time, and never went away when he wasn't.

Bill: Recent scholarship talks about the use of enslaved people in the production of the New Testament. That'll give you something to cheer about. People under the boot.

Perhaps Trump's Ballroom will make it into the Smithsonian some day.

More likely it will be his Makeup Kit that gets in as it is said to be nominally smaller.

I suggest you read this:

TJ is my favorite FF, but the more you learn, the more you know. He was an extremely complicated person. But he did bring ice cream to America.
I do not like the contemporary idea that we all should be defined by our worst traits, but ignoring the truth is just wrong. All smart folks are complicated and torn human beings.
The Smithsonian should present all sides.

I also heard that King Dotard wanted to change the placard for Archie Bunker's chair, saying that he was right about everything.

More BJ: 13. "Slavery and the wrist-slashing remorse and guilt amount to little more than virtue signaling by the left."

You are just a disgusting human being for this reason: You don't care that the country you love (hell, the entire hemisphere) was built on land stolen from one people while committing genocide against them and built literally on the backs of another.
