@#2 ... this does not even begin to address the water usage issues of data centers. ...

A data center drained 30M gallons of water unnoticed " until residents complained about low water pressure (May 2026)
www.politico.com

... The neighbors of a data center in Georgia are steaming after they discovered the facility had sucked up nearly 30 million gallons of water -- without initially paying for it.

Outrage started bubbling up last year when residents of an affluent subdivision named Annelise Park in Fayetteville, Georgia, noticed their water pressure was unusually low.

When the county utility investigated, officials discovered two industrial-scale water hookups feeding a data center campus located 20 miles south of downtown Atlanta. One water connection had been installed without the utility's knowledge, and the other was not linked to the company's account and therefore wasn't being billed.

All told, the developer, Quality Technology Services, owed nearly $150,000 for using more than 29 million gallons of unaccounted-for water. That is equivalent to 44 Olympic-size swimming pools and far exceeds the peak limit agreed to during the data center planning process. ...

Israelis flying from US to vote are leaning on a network built during judicial overhaul protests
www.timesofisrael.com

... Prewar attempts to reform the judiciary led to an unprecedented Israeli-led protest movement in US, which pivoted to hostage advocacy after Oct. 7.

Now it is pushing some 50,000 expats to fly in and vote ...

Their trustworthiness: Netanyahu's credibility with the Israeli public has been battered by his long-running corruption trial, his political tactics, his refusal to take responsibility for the failures that led to October 7 and accusations of duplicity in his handling of the Iran war.

Eisenkot is seen as a straight shooter, even among many of his opponents.
Zoom in: The failure to prevent the October 7 attacks spurred Eisenkot to challenge Netanyahu.

Eisenkot, who joined N'etanyahu's emergency cabinet shortly after the attacks, lost his son during the war. He later lost two of his nephews in the war.

Zoom out: Netanyahu has cultivated a vast network of donors, lobbyists and supporters in American power corridors for the past half-century. Bibi is a household name in America " for better and worse.

Eisenkot, on the other hand, is almost anonymous in Washington. Very few people know him personally, even within Jewish organizations.

"The numbers: Eisenkot is leading Netanyahu by 8 to 10 points in most pre-election polls.

While Netanyahu is toxic among at least half of the voters, polls show Eisenkot enjoys high likability across the board.

Netanyahu's efforts to publicly vilify him have been so far unsuccessful.

The big picture:

Eisenkot ran on a center-right platform. He did not make any sweeping foreign policy pronouncements and took pains to steer clear of any public positions that would allow Netanyahu to paint him as weak. Bibi tried to do it, anyway.

Eisenkot has expressed opposition to a Palestinian state under current conditions. He has committed to taking strong steps to crack down on Jewish terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank.

He also pledged to end Hamas' control of Gaza within 18 months of taking office, either through diplomacy or military force.

Eisenkot supported the war against Iran and strikes on its nuclear facilities. But he opposed Netanyahu's attempt to use military power to force regime change, calling it unrealistic.

Eisenkot supports continuing economic pressure on Iran and building a regional alliance with the Arab world to curb Iranian influence."

Boomers did have the advantage of an economy stoked by the success of defeating Fascism around the world in WWII by the Greatest and the Silent Gens, who to their credit joined in street protests against the moneyed Elite in cities all over the country.

We also grew up with a simple seemingly idyllic lifestyle of fresh food and mostly safe neighborhoods and schools (per the 70's thread).

But we also grew up with the Cold War; visions of nuclear explosions on B&W tvs, school Atomic Bomb Drills; sitting in hallways with hands over heads during the Cold War, as if that would help! (see Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, circa 1964).

The Korean War, the Vietnam War (aka 'Police Action'), and "I am NOT a Crook!" Richard Nixon's pre-Trump Election Rigging.

Heroes (we actually had heroes!) like JFK, MLK, RFK assassinated in the streets.

Which would be like seeing Obama and Bernie and AOC shot dead today.

Not to mention our own college kids murdered by nervous Natl Guards while protesting the War.

But we had other Heroes; Walter Cronkite and Bill Moyers who didn't give a flying F what politicians thought about them. John Glenn et al who braved the Final Frontier. (OK, and Star Trek, lol)

My first college English assignment was to write an essay on Modern Heroes, if there still were any. My subject was one of the survivors, Muhammad Ali, who was eventually offered a Deal to fight exhibitions for the troops if he'd only sign up. He gave up his best years to join, and lead, the Protest instead.

Unfortunately, it was the moneyed Elite who called the shots and elected Reagan, the Tea Party, Nutty Newty, and now Project25.

Of course, it's the whole Gen, who mostly opposed all that, who gets the blame now for what those same moneyed Elite are still doing now.... despite that most of the modern Gens also oppose them.

Well, except maybe in the last election, but many groups; Gens, racial groups, and even farmers and ranchers and truck drivers have now seen enough of these current Nixons their and Elitist backers.

@#1 ... They went to the meeting knowing full well who it was with and when it was happening. Now they're trying to weasel out of blowback from their "flock". ...

I've seen reports that the CEO of Audi is getting grief for appearing with Pres Trump in georgia recently.

Found this...

Audi CEO faces backlash after joining Trump at midterm campaign rally
www.reuters.com

... Audi chief Gernot Doellner drew heavy criticism on Monday for appearing alongside US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in the battleground state of Georgia, with the head of Germany's top union saying it violated the automaker's company guidelines. ...
