Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 18, 2025

Disney's ABC said it would take Jimmy Kimmel's popular late-night show off its schedule "indefinitely" after one of the biggest owners of TV stations in the U.S., Nexstar Media, said it intended to pre-empt airings of the program following remarks the host made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The Trump administration is using the death of a hate monger to censor comedians.

Republicans don't want freedom of speech.

They want the freedom to be able to vomit up hate.

" ABC is scared of their advertisers and viewers."

Nonsense.

The suits at Disney realize a win in public would lead to A LOT of losses on paper ... which is all that matters. Paramount's payoff was a rounding error in its merger.

Meanwhile, the current POTUS is shaking down corporate America, and Republicans are fine with that.

Further proof: Trump isn't expecting to get $15 Billion from NBC. He's expecting them to spend a lot of money, against his unlimited budget.

Is that the Republican ideal? Or are we dealing with a cult?

Kimmel was either misinformed or simply lying regarding the motive of th3 shooter. His edits to make Trump seem like he didn't give a rip about Kirk's death was kind of offensive and IMO not funny, but so what? Comedians are supposed to be edgy. I didn't see anything that, from my POV, warrants a suspension of his show.

"Obama condemns horrific' Kirk shooting, but defends the right to criticize the founder of Turning Point USA

The former president suggested Republicans have deepened the nation's polarization in response to the killing.

"We can also, at the same time, say that I disagree with the idea that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake," he continued.

"I can say that I disagree with the suggestion that my wife or Justice Jackson does not have adequate brain processing power. I can say that I disagree that Martin Luther King was awful."

"When I hear not just our current president, but his aides, who have a history of calling political opponents vermin, enemies who need to be targeted, that speaks to a broader problem that we have right now," Obama said.

"When we have the weight of the United States government behind extremist views, we've got a problem," he added."

Why?

Why can't a corporation decide it would rather stay out of the political speculation rotation, and just be a comedy late night show?
It would have perhaps been fine he wasn't so serious, but it really wasn't even a joke.

I have never been around when the late night shows were supposedly great, IMO they have always been poor political humor.

My concern is that we're sliding from comedy into a kind of speech-policing that feels uncomfortably McCarthyesque.

I recall a rodeo clown in a Obama mask got fired, I guess this was the beginning of the end for comedians.

"We can also, at the same time, say that I disagree with the idea that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake," he continued.

I always find these sorts of replies funny, they avoid the points that Charlie was making. I was always sold Obama a wise man, maybe its his cadence, but this really is just tiktok reponse.
Thanks for showing me that part of Obama, Corky.

#53 | Posted by eberly at 2025-09-17 11:00 PM | Reply

#44 - I watched the Kilmeade exchange completely in context - and it was obvious it was going off the rails before Kilmeade jumped in. Also I watched the Kimmel monologue - and he was dead on with it. The problem was he was criticizing the massive right-wing machine immediately (just like happened on here) blaming "The Left" before anything was really known. Contrary information started to appear, but it was early and things changed. The point he was making was still dead on. No one should be blaming others until we know WTF is going on. At least not at the level of President, DHC, FBI, and DOJ levels.

I knew when Kirk was killed it was just too sweet and too juicy an opportunity for Trump to go after his enemies, so he had to turn the full us government to that task, and set the message before we knew what really happened. If he was wrong, he still accomplished what he wanted. If he was right, he accomplishes what he wanted and he can point and say "see how dangerous these leftists are!"

I was so hoping America would make it to 250 years as a Democratic, Constitutional Republic.

What is the point? You seem to have already discerned his view on this based upon an 18 second clip that was timed perfectly...

Are you interested in discussion or argument? If it's the former, demonstrate your intent in good faith. If it's the latter, I'm out and wish you enjoy the rest of your evening.

But if you remember, that day you were in the dumps and questioning your faith, I leaped in with words of encouragement, insisting you not give up, and not let folks (including folks like me) get to you.

There's a world of difference between that, and challenging a lie you still can't prove after five years.

If someone claims to be a Christian, but has no problem bearing false witness, that's an obvious hypocrite.

If someone claims to be a Christian, but commits blasphemy by telling another poster you "won't be seeing them" in the afterlife, that's an obvious hypocrite.

And when they pretend to be a Christian, but support a candidate who breaks the majority of the Ten Commandments, and has the majority of the earmarks of the Anti-Christ ...

... obvious hypocrite.

Agreed?

As for The Kirk quote you are fixated on....Sadly, you've confirmed my lowest expectations for you. Your mind appears to be made up off a single 18 second clip that was amazingly cut off right at the point where it needed to be. I've searched but haven't been able to find the clip beyond the 18-second sound bite. Maybe it captured the essence of his view (other, longer contextualized comments show the opposite). Maybe it's deliberately deceptive. Your mind appears to be unwaveringly made up. Do you know what was said following where that 18 second clip deliberately cut him off? What about the dialogue that preceded that 18 second clip?

This needs context. The Chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, a rabid MAGAt POS called Kimmel's words "the sickest conduct possible" and said "We can do this the easy way or the hard way" demanding "these companies" comply with their view. This is the same man that was ranting and out of control crying out about the danger of censorship by Biden over misinformation on public health issues.

And I think most of what Kirk said is the same. word for word.

I was talking about the "black women are inferior" line.

It was narrowed to the women he was specifically referencing. He was pointing out their admissions that they were the product of AA.

Now, with that said....this misunderstanding is really Kirk's fault. well....not anymore.

If he never walked that back or clarified it......it's on him. How he really felt about black women? I'll let others speculate.

I don't know how Biden really felt about his VP. It doesn't matter.

Your comment that Kirk would mock Jesus strikes me as hyperbole.

And frankly, anything written by you is suspect to being something taken out of context.

Jesus would never have empathy for sin, which is probably the area of dispute here. What is "sin"?

He would have empathy for the sinner.

His edits to make Trump seem like he didn't give a rip about Kirk's death was kind of offensive and IMO not funny, but so what? Comedians are supposed to be edgy. If you don't like people being canceled because of what they say, liberals shouldn't have been fighting so hard to do it. Out of all the liberal hypocrisy that is ruling your party today, THIS is by far the most egregious. To ignore the last 10+ years of liberals canceling every single person they could find that said things that didn't agree with liberal ideology is just absolutely absurd. Both parties are not the same. This is just another maga lie.

The lie goes kinda like this:

Since everyone in politics is corrupt and ineffectual, you might as well vote for the corrupt and ineffectual candidate who will troll on your behalf, espousing your culture-war arguments, because at least you will have the satisfaction of driving the other side crazy.

This is the lie you want democrats and liberals to believe.

Because if liberals come to believe that both parties are the same then there's no point in voting, then a small margin of committed ideologues is enough to swing an election rightward.

And, of course, this is exactly what has happened so if a lie works keep doing it right Mr Both Parties are the Same?

Myths based on a very limited understanding of life and nature

Of course they had understanding about f some things of even some complex concepts

But they also didn't know about microbes and viruses thus the need for a law to not mix dairy with seafood or hooved animals or whatever

Or laws on how to treat slaves-it took a few more centuries for mankind to kind of accept that all humans have inherent value (many still need to learn that even today)

Or that cutting a lambs throat was an actual sacrifice. Because food was limited. So killing a lamb (ie a food source) was an actual sacrifice of a necessity. Today when food is abundant killing an animal to get closer to god would be pointless since there really isn't a scarcity so giving up an abundant resource is no sacrifice

So yeah your point is just dumb

The issue is - Trump has both on video and social media talked about "Kimmel is next". Long before the Kirk assasination.

Then the FCC chair says we can "do it the easy way, or the hard way".

We also know NextStar is trying to acquire other stations and needs FCC approavl (much like the CBS/Paramount/Skydance/Colbert fiasco).

Kimmel fired.

Having to explain religion to people who supposedly believe in it

What did Jesus do?

He sacrificed himself to take away the sins of the world

He did that by suffering and dying as the sacrificial lamb

People get closer to god by eating the flesh and blood ie the ritual cannibalism

But they must also sacrifice. Sacrifice is part of the process. They must not eat on Friday they must fast they must give up something for lent. Some faiths scourge themselves

Sacrifice is part of the process of communion with god either through ones own sacrifice OR by eating the
class and drinking the blood of the creature that gave up its life

Kind of sick that a creature has to give up its life for a person to feel closer to god shoot to feel anything

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,

4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

MAGA is secular, not a religion and not part of the government.

However people "maga" are free to incorporate parts of (pick and choose) Christianity as they so choose since its not actually a government office or adhering to any particular church doctrine.

And include secular ideas having nothing to do with biblical teaching.

It was narrowed to the women he was specifically referencing. He was pointing out their admissions that they were the product of AA.

Of course he prefaced that by commenting on a black customer service rep who is "mornonic" - and how did she get there.

And this wrap up that "they're coming out and they're saying it for us ... You do not have the brain processing power" is not what pro-AA are saying about it. That's what he's saying. That's Kirk's view.

And its reasonable to infer that his net encompasses more than just those three.

AI Overview

It is inaccurate to claim that MAGA is secular and not part of the government. In reality, the movement has a close and complex relationship with both religion and government.

While MAGA itself is a political movement rather than a religious institution, a core component of its base is rooted in a specific strain of Christian nationalism, and its influence extends deeply into the structures of the U.S. government.

#14) The Antichrist is revealed by the falling away " 2 Thessalonians 2:3

A remarkable and yet often overlooked meaning behind this verse is that the "falling away" " or those that leave the faith " will be tied in with the revealing of the man of sin.

In other words, these two events are related, as those who fall away from the faith will fall TOWARDS the man of sin.

Thus, it is the falling away that reveals the Antichrist, as we simply need to look at those who have fallen away from the faith and see WHO they are gravitating towards.

It's not simply a falling away for the sake of leaving the faith, but a falling away FROM Jesus Christ and TOWARDS the Antichrist.

This is exactly what we've seen over the past few years with many Christians and their love affair with Trump. While Trump's vileness would have been repulsive in any other politician, strangely Christians not only embraced him, but started talking about him as if he was a man of God.

Even worse, some Christians now consider Trump as the savior of America, putting him on the same level as Jesus.

But to those of us who are watching, their falling away from the faith helps us identify who the Antichrist is, as we simply need to observe WHO they are embracing instead of Jesus."

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

.
You know, you could interpret that quote as Kimmel himself not denying the shooter isn't MAGA, but that MAGA will go to any length - factual or nonfactual - to not be associated in any way with the killer. And there is proof of this from social media posts and podcasters, which can be looney.

An example would be "Obama and the deep state are behind this because Kirk was a Presidential candidate".

"Obama urges media companies to 'start standing up' to Trump after Kimmel suspension

Former President Barack Obama took to social media to urge media companies to stop giving in to the Trump administration after ABC suspended late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's fatal shooting.

"After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn't like," Obama wrote in a post on X on Sept. 18.

"This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent " and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it," Obama said in a follow-up X post, linking to a New York Times article about the firing of Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah, who said she was let go for her comments on social media after Kirk's death."

Speak,

"If you believe christ is real why do you ignore all his teachings and support a leader who does the exact opposite?"

Why do you think I should get the blame for what someone else does?

I'm responsible for my actions, not his, and not yours. Just mine.

There's no blaming someone else for my faults, like some people like to do.

You're confusing secular politics and Christian faith.

I have noticed more and more the major network news sections are very carefully choosing how they word their reports so as not to upset Trump. I no longer trust them to give news and will hunt the independent news sites for daily information. You can not get the gist of what is happening in the world when you are only presented one side. At present we no longer have free speech. In his latest bout with networks he's told them to get rid of all their late night hosts and shows. Comedy is usually about people but Trump can't stand anything that puts him in a negative light. Threatening networks with the FCC cancelling their broadcast license is really bad news. The networks will cave to protect their income and that is why they can no longer be trusted anymore than the major lawyer houses that bowed to his demands to give him free legal representation or go to court over slander and the like. Democracy is a whimper to what it once was.

Yeah, Nexstar is seeking FCC approval for its $6.2 billion merger with Tegna.

After 20 years of posting on this site thinking I was protected by the first amendment, republicans have dragged the country so far from its principles that I now realistically have to be worried about retaliation for years of speaking the truth about trump. Not that my words have any affect on the world, but that fascist AI will be sent to dig through everything anyone has ever said, any mistake on a tax return or loan application, any stolen netflix subscriptions, and use that to prosecute their enemies. In the larger purpose of scaring everyone into submission because they know they could be next. Now we're russia. Now we are a place where you can't criticize the ruler without fear of retribution.

How does that feel trumpers, knowing you have brought america to this place? This is literal fascism in action. You're sick of hearing the word fascism? That's your fault for being fascists. When it's raining I'm going to call it rain, not "water from the sky."

[dems did it first!]

No they didn't. Dems prosecuted idiots and fascists who stormed the capitol.

Dems asked social media companies to stop spreading russian propaganda - defending the nation from foreign attack. That enraged republicans because russian propaganda helps them so much.

Look at what you've become.

Lyrics excerpt ...

...
[Verse 1]
Today, I feel like pleasing you more than before
Today, I know what I wanna do, but I don't know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true

[Verse 2]
Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed
Today you look into my eyes, I'm just not the same
To be any more than all I am would be a lie
I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry

[Verse 3]
Today, everything you want I swear it all will come true
Today, I realize how much I'm in love with you
...

OK, a song from more than a half-century ago.

But the lyrics seem to describe AG Bondi's relationship with Pres Trump, and why she seems to endeavor to please him at every turn.

When there is only one side, it's no longer news, it becomes propaganda.

Not really. But Christians in general have issues with all forms of sex.

It's not natural to be different. I don't think Christians even believe we are a part of nature. They think we are here just to rule and dominate nature. So we should not be doing "natural" things.

But who really cares what the Bible has to say about it? Do we care what the Koran says about it?

Our laws and policies are not based on or derived from the Bible or the Koran nor should they be.

Intersex people are born with sex characteristics (such as sexual anatomy, reproductive organs, hormonal patterns and/or chromosomal patterns) that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies. In addition to intersex people, there are those that have Klinefelter syndrome, Turner syndrome, adrenal hyperplasia, to name a few other "not so black and white" examples.

But like you said, god must've known what he was doing and what be was creating...

What's the difference you say?

About 2 years.

Also a cross dresser can't wait to get home and put on a bra.

A trans can't wait to get home and take it off.

It's fascinating watching people debate Christianity and quote the Bible as if they've been personally appointed by God to speak on His behalf.

What's often missing in those conversations is Christ Himself.

The Bible is not a replacement for God. It's a book. I've seen it used as a substitute for Jesus, almost like an idol. But the Bible doesn't offer salvation, redemption, or grace. That comes through faith and from the heart.

Christianity is bigger than a single verse. The real challenge is fitting scripture together into a living faith and not using isolated passages as weapons or a crutch.

"I don't think Christians even believe we are a part of nature."

Christians believe we were created in God's image.

However, does that mean physically or spiritually?

Genesis says that when Eve ate the fruit, "their eyes were opened" and they became aware. They became aware of their humanity, their nakedness, and of sin itself.

So my opinion is yes, humans are part of nature.

That being said, that's the reason so much of the Bible is teaching us how to behave appropriately and how to worship God with our whole being.

It's a flawed philosophy like so many others and has no special place with me. But it's not so much the philosophy that is the problem. It is those who misinterpreted it. Sometimes on purpose. With the intention to deceive or use to gain power over others.

So I place it where it belongs with all the other religions of the world. Religions who also struggle to speak about the same things. I am not comforted by it. But many of these other cultures have found better words. And I can speak to those religions and myths as well as I can speak about Christianity. Can you?

It just embarrasses me as a human that people are still so close minded that they need to believe in only one particular Myth above all others and still try to force that belief onto others who want nothing to do with it.

And finally. It is my belief that Christians who believe in these ancient ("Bronze Age") myths not as metaphors for things we cannot speak but as literal truth beyond questioning are a danger to us all.

Just as our Founding Fathers believed.

"Christians believe we were created in God's image."

Christians created a God in Man's image. Using Man's words.

God is thought. Created by Man.

So my opinion is yes, humans are part of nature.

Man is an animal with an animal nature but with a fully functional consciousness (well some humans have a fully developed consciousness). And so we can reflect on our own existence and behaviors. This does not separate us from the planet from which we have evolved.

And gay sex and even different sexual "expressions" exist in nature.

The animal kingdom exhibits phenomena like sex-changing (sequential hermaphroditism) and sex-expression differences, such as male birds with female plumage for survival, which are biological adaptations rather than conscious gender identities.

Animals like spotted hyenas display high testosterone, affecting their appearance and behavior, and while these biological traits differ from the typical binary, they are not considered analogous to human transgender identities but they are natural.

Regardless (all ethics and moral judgements aside) if man truly is a part of nature then anything man does is actually "natural".

" According to one of the individuals familiar with the situation, Kimmel was prepared to deliver his monologue on his show Wednesday night and planned to address the right-wing backlash to his
remarks made earlier in the week regarding the politicalization of Kirk's
killing. This individual describes Kimmel's planned monologue as "very
hot," taking aim at the MAGA base"

So, while emotions were still high he makes a completely false statement that caused serious backlash to his employer. And he was planning on doubling/tripling down on it. "Ted Cruz compares FCC Chair Carr to Mafia boss in Jimmy Kimmel warnings

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas sharply criticized Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr for his comments related to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel shortly before ABC pulled his show off the air.

Cruz said he took issue with Carr threatening to cancel ABC's broadcast license over Kimmel's remarks about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

"He says, We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way,'" the senator said of Carr in the latest episode of his podcast, "Verdict with Ted Cruz," which aired Friday morning.

"And I gotta say, that's right out of Goodfellas,'" Cruz said, referring to the classic mob film.

Disney has more than enough media options that the government can't threaten if they really thought retaining Kimmel was in their best interest.

Bob Iger once stated that he would have never greenlit the movie "The Interview" because it did not align with the Disney brand. Charlie Kirk was very popular with tens of millions of people. For me, he was the only person in politics that was interesting. You can't see how disparaging Kirk might turn viewers off the brand. There was no reason for Kimmel to say what he said. It was politically driven nonsense that had nothing to do with providing the entertainment that Disney is in the business of doing.

Posts like that make you look the clown... a case of looks not being deceiving.

Kirk was a hate monger; a thirty something who pretended debates with teens while spewing racist, bigoted white nationalist garbage in the name of the Lord.

Wouldn't want to be him right about now.

MadBomber has admitted this is why he watched Charlie Kirk.

For the edited clips of Kirk spewing anger and hate at teenagers.

doesn't seem to understand how editing works.

It sounds like Kirk was doing the same thing Jordan Klepper does for The Daily Show.

Klepper would go to MAGA rallies, find dumb, gullible people and set them up with loaded questions to make them look stupid.

If the do say stupid things, they get to be on TV. If the don't say stupid things, they don't get to be on TV.

Kimmel actually does the same thing when they "interview" tourists passing by outside his studio.

Yep.

Kimmel will be back on in a week. No such thing as bad publicity.

Disney has lost $4 billion since letting Kimmel go.

These late night shows are tanking in the ratings and it's no wonder why.
We need another Johnny Carson.

Actually, the reason you don't understand "why" is because you blinked and missed the rapidly changing "content creation and delivery" business landscape - "free TV" today is far from what it was when Johnny Carson was "on the air" competing only with a couple of similar OTA networks and a few "cable" news/entertainment channels, mostly CNN and MTV.

Today, number of digital CDNs ("Content Delivery/Distribution Network") is huge (YT / TikTok "channels" etc.) and content more fragmented than 3 or 4 OTA TV networks then, and people don't have to stay up late, especially in Western time zones, to watch "live" late-night network content.

So comparing today's "late night" ratings to old times or any other available content is nonsensical. If networks were really losing money on these shows, they wouldn't keep them on the air - the programmers and accountants there are not idiots and understand "ad and aux revenue" and change shows all the time - if they could make more net $$ doing that they would do it without "input" from Trump and FCC chair.

So maybe we should leave programming and accounting to the networks? We don't have to like or watch it. Or do you really want to be hypocritical and maintain that the reason Colbert and Kimmel are being "cancelled" is because they have "no talent" and their "low ratings," and Trump's clearly stated desires and threats had nothing to do with it?

Q: What were the ratings of the whatever show that replaced Kimmel's this week and how much money DIS made / lost with it?

Q: Do you really want your content choices decided by the Programmer-in-Chief? Be careful what you wish for.

FCC is not the only "weapon" Big Government has. Two largest Disney / ABC local stations owners, Nexstar (NSXT) and Tegna (TGNA), who suddenly refused to retransmit Kimmel show, have recently announced a merger, and are very dependent on FCC (e.g., ownership limits rules - www.lermansenter.com), FTC and DOJ antitrust approval:
"Nexstar to Buy Tegna for $3.5 Billion in Bet on FCC Reforms ... Nexstar-Tegna deal puts Trump move to eliminate broadcast ownership rules to the test - 2025-09-01

Very opportune moment for Trump to exact his revenge, no?

Disney also owns Hulu which is trying to acquire some of the "free / ad-supported / subscription" streaming services like Fubo and Philo, which also will need government approval. How do you think these would go if DIS doesn't indulge Dear Leader?

This is similar to Paramount (CBS) which received miraculously fast approval to merge with Larry Ellison son's company Skydance... just as soon as Sheri Redstone agreed to paying $16M+ to Trump to settle baseless lawsuit.

Q: Do you know of any "media company" that will chance not being subject to some government regulations or decisions affecting their business in next few years?

Using extortion and pretext of "Saint Charlie" Kirk's murder to muzzle "inconvenient" content used to be revolting, regardless of the party and grievances re "the other side."

Nothing like corruption AND an attack on free speech, rolled into one. Brought to us by "scum" who doesn't believe either exists.
