More: In late March, at the height of the Iran war, Israel quietly approved more settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank than it ever had at one time.

Staff members at the United States Embassy in Jerusalem saw the move as potentially flouting one of President Trump's explicit red lines for Israel " no annexation of the West Bank " and drafted an urgent report intended for policy makers in Washington.

That memo never reached Washington. It was quashed by David Milstein, a top aide to Ambassador Mike Huckabee, according to three U.S. officials briefed on the process.

This was no isolated incident.

Since taking up his post in April 2025, Mr. Milstein, 36, has repeatedly suppressed or significantly revised embassy reporting on Israeli activities to present the Netanyahu government in a favorable light, according to a dozen people who work with or interact with Mr. Milstein in both Jerusalem and Washington:

As settler violence in the West Bank surged in the spring, for instance, he stymied embassy reporting suggesting that the Israeli government was failing to take action, according to the three officials. Instead the embassy sent a cable to Washington, viewed by The New York Times, praising Israel for "cracking down" on the attacks.

When members of Congress pushed for accountability over the killings of nine Palestinian Americans by Israeli settlers and security forces, he suppressed a detailed report that the embassy staff had written, effectively stonewalling lawmakers' efforts to gain information, according to multiple officials briefed on the matter.

Soon after arriving in Jerusalem, Mr. Milstein began insisting on approving communications from the embassy section that handles Palestinian affairs, multiple officials with direct knowledge of the process said. The flow of cables plummeted from several a week to a few a month, as some staffers refrained from writing reports for fear that Mr. Milstein would block or rewrite them, these officials said.

Mr. Milstein's interventions go far beyond those of any recent predecessor, several officials said. They and others said they were speaking out of concern that officials in Washington were getting a distorted view of Israeli actions through core diplomatic channels.

Mr. Milstein's efforts have helped insulate Israel's right-wing government against potential blowback from a Trump Administration that has been its closest ally.

did speakstupid write that first line you referenced? doesn't matter. I don't really care.

I don't give a ---- what MAGA is worried of being accused of. They aren't worried about it either. That's such a worthless deflection.

the right has been accused of being Nazis my entire life. It's a 100% guarantee that's going to happen. Believe me the right knows it coming no matter what.....so the last thing they are worried about is that. they count on it.

Seriously........wages, taxes, social security, medicare, medicaid, minimum wage, education, health care, trade policy, etc....no matter the issue.....the GOP is starving kids, pushing grannies over cliffs in their wheelchairs, denying services, voter suppression, etc...literally everything they are being accused of today.

It's all fair game. This is what drives psychos like Clownshack crazy.....he thinks I'm defending what the GOP is doing. I'm not. I'm only pointing out that this whole dynamic never changes.

I don't care if the GOP feels as though the accusations and labels are fair. I don't care if it is fair or not.

Simply being a republican is justification to be called a racist, nazi, fascist. There are simply no other qualifications necessary.

And that's not changed for 50 years.

All morons like lampshack have is this......."yeah....but this time we really mean it. You really are a racist, nazi, and a fascist. Yeah, you've been called that forever but we were mostly just kidding all those previous times....but this time it's for real!!!"

Bush v. Gore
en.wikipedia.org

... Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000), is a landmark decision of the United States Supreme Court on December 12, 2000, that settled a recount dispute in Florida's 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. On December 8, 2000, the Florida Supreme Court ordered a statewide recount of all undervotes, over 61,000 ballots that the vote tabulation machines had missed.

The Bush campaign immediately asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stay the decision and halt the recount. On December 9, the U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari and issued the stay. The case was argued before the Court on December 11. On December 12 the Court held, in a 5"4 per curiam decision, that no constitutional recount could be conducted in the remaining time, which was short because the Florida legislature wanted to take advantage of the federal "safe harbor" for its electors to be free from challenge.[1] ...

In my house, when there is a an appliance that wants to connect to the internet, I go into my DNS server ( kea - www.isc.org ) and assign that appliance an IP address from a block that my firewall routinely blocks. (the "reservations" block of the IP4 kea config.)

I did that for the Sony DVD player here when I discovered that it was phoning home with all the DVs that I watched on it, apparently in a track-by-track level of detail.

Now, when that Sony DVD player tries to ping whitehouse.gov to ascertain if it has Internet access, it fails. And it no longer tries to upload my viewing habits.

Firms Backed by Trump's Sons Have Scored Over $6B in Pentagon Contracts: Report
www.mediaite.com

... Companies backed by President Donald Trump's eldest sons have secured more than $6 billion in active or promised government contracts since receiving their investments, according to an ABC News analysis of federal contracting records.

The latest deal came Tuesday, when Trump announced a $6.6 billion investment involving defense technology company Anduril Industries, which has financial ties to Donald Trump Jr. through venture capital firm 1789 Capital, where the president's eldest son is one of six partners. The firm took a major stake in Anduril as part of a $2.5 billion investment in June 2025.

Since then, Anduril has been awarded 135 other government contracts worth roughly $1.8 billion, ABC News reported on Wednesday, citing active contracts published through SAM.gov. The company had also received federal contracts dating back to 2019.

Among the other companies highlighted was drone manufacturer Powerus, which lists the Trump brothers as "notable investors." It received its first Air Force purchase order one month after announcing their investment and was later awarded a contract worth up to $90 million. ...

Trump announces $6.6bn defense shipyard owned by top Republican donor's firm
www.theguardian.com

... Donald Trump on Tuesday announced the opening of a new $6.6bn shipbuilding factory in Baltimore, partly funded by the US government but owned by Anduril Industries, a politically connected defense company.

Trump's appearance at a currently unused shipyard in Sparrows Point is a boost to Anduril, whose founder, Palmer Luckey, is a major GOP campaign fundraiser. Luckey has hosted campaign fundraisers for at least 20 Republican politicians, including Trump, the Guardian reported in August. He has given $5.9m to Republican causes since 2017.

Last week, the US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, named Luckey, an outspoken supporter of autonomous warfare, as an adviser to the Pentagon's recently launched "Project Meridian", which is tasked to study the future of warfare.

At the event in Maryland, Trump called Luckey "a friend of mine" and a "brilliant guy". Luckey was not at the event.

Anduril's shipyard project is funded partly by $2.9bn from the US navy, along with $3.7bn project in private funding. Officials said the new factory, to be called "Arsenal Two", will build torpedo tubes and other sections of Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines.

Rapid ship construction is a priority for Trump, whose administration has promoted a future "golden fleet".

Trump said US taxpayers would "receive a 40% stake" in the shipyard. It is unclear what he meant, and whether the US government is taking an equity share in the company, as it has in some other firms.

Anduril said the operation would not be ready to produce ship parts until 2030. ...

... In 10 days and 9 hours, a coffee maker sent 1,008 gigabytes of data. A viral post on X demonstrates an ordinary appliance causing network issues.

Exceptionally high network activity was detected from the Keurig K-Supreme SMART coffee maker.

"Hey uh, Keurig " what the hell is a COFFEE MACHINE uploading, let me double check ... ONE ---- TERABYTE OF DATA IN 10 DAYS!?!?" A tweet exploded on X, with nearly 2 million views in hours.

The shocked owner, who goes by the alias Nomad, said he will unplug the device immediately and will get his parents a new coffee machine.

The included screenshot from a network monitoring app shows the appliance downloading 9.94GB and uploading 1,008.45 GB of data in just over 10 days.

Nomad later explained that the device belongs to his parents and he simply helps to manage their network. He discovered the suspicious activity while checking the statistics through Ubiquiti's UniFi networking system.

The excessive traffic became an instant joke on X, with commenters blaming the coffee maker for crypto mining, peddling adult content, and seeding torrents. Some users feared that the device might be spying or had been hacked.

Nomad said that most of the suspicious traffic didn't escape the network. He has a hypothesis that the unit was simply affected by a bug. Nomad said he has over 10 years of experience in IT and works as a Technical Field and Community Specialist at the 3D printer manufacturer Prusa.

"This is a problem that saturated an access point (AP) and could have taken down the network if I didn't have other APs to share the load. It needs to be fixed," Nomad added.

After rebooting the device and reconnecting it to a segregated virtual LAN (VLAN), the issue did not reappear. ...

... What happened

Leaving Australia behind schedule, a load of F-35 spare parts ended up going through Hong Kong as a supposed shortcut to get them to the US faster. According to a person familiar with the matter, the diversion happened because an employee at United Parcel Service Inc. failed to heed instructions banning passage through specific countries under the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations, or ITAR.

The freight forwarder DSV A/S had alerted handlers that the box contained an F-35 cockpit canopy and a weapons-bay door, both treated with radar-absorbing material. The intended route ran from Australia to San Francisco, stopping in South Korea and Taiwan, which are both US defense partners. Instead, the shipment was diverted through Hong Kong, and China ended up with the parts. The person spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Who was involved and what was disclosed

DSV was acting for F-35 maker Lockheed Martin Corp. when it flagged the ITAR restrictions, as US rules require. The person said the notice may have gone out through an IT platform other than the system the UPS employee was using to process the shipment.

Pentagon officials shared new details during an approximately hour-long Sept. 29 briefing with staff from the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees. The account added context to how a chain of mistakes may have allowed access to highly sensitive US military technology, creating an embarrassment for both the Pentagon and Lockheed. ...

Health evidence favors permanent standard time, Canadian analysis finds
www.news-medical.net

... Several Canadian jurisdictions are moving toward ending the twice-yearly clock change, but a new analysis published in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) www.cmaj.ca argues that eliminating the clock change is only half the decision: governments must also decide whether to adopt permanent standard time or permanent daylight saving time.

Both choices have trade-offs. Permanent daylight saving time keeps evenings lighter, which may support recreation, social activity, commuting, and some economic activity.

But it also pushes sunrise an hour later, leaving more people waking, travelling to school, and commuting to work, in darkness during the winter. Permanent standard time preserves more morning light and better aligns clock time with human circadian biology, although evenings become darker earlier.

"Ending the clock change solves one problem, but it creates another decision: which time should we live on year-round?" says lead author Dr. Raymond Lam, professor of psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, BC. "The health evidence points to standard time, largely because morning light matters for our body clocks, sleep, and mood."

Weighing the trade-offs

Major sleep and chronobiology organizations recommend permanent standard time. The authors note that morning light helps synchronize the body's circadian clock, while evening light delays it. Permanent daylight saving time, therefore, works against circadian alignment during winter by reducing morning light while extending evening light. ...

Our biological clocks need morning light to stay synchronized with the 24-hour day. Permanent daylight saving time moves that light an hour later just when winter mornings are already darkest."

Dr. Ralph Mistlberger, professor of psychology, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC

The effects may be especially important for mood and sleep. An estimated 1% to 3% of people in Canada experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD), while as many as 15% experience milder seasonal changes in mood, sleep, appetite, and energy. The authors also point to geographic studies showing that people living farther west within a time zone - where sunrise occurs later by the clock - experience several adverse health outcomes. ...
