73. From what I can tell, Danforth supports Democrats these days because one of the parties he grew up with abandoned him. Maybe both have, but one less than the other.
There's no need to find fault in what Democrats are doing. They are the only hope for moving this country forward, and that shouldn't fill anyone with glee, given their track record. But the GOP is brain dead, and the Supreme Court has abandoned the American people.
Remember "fiscally conservative, socially liberal"? What used to be liberal Republicans, and still are some conservative Democrats? Most people under 45 or so have never heard of a liberal Republican.
Do we need four parties, like New York City has? R/D/Liberal/Conservative? In his fourth term as NYC mayor, Ed Koch was endorsed by all except the liberals, who would probably be today's DSA.
