"Are those real numbers?"
It's quite possible, especially for a pair of elderly folks paying Medicare, Medicare Supplemental, Vision, Dental, and Part D (Prescriptions). Or, if both spouses are paying for health insurance, and in their early-mid 60s.
One of the largest misconceptions is: "Policy ABC123 has a monthly premium of $350" ...because that's YOUR premium at your current young age. That same policy actually has about 40 different prices, all depending on your current age. A 34 year old will ALWAYS pay less than a 44 year old, who will always pay less than a 54 year old, etc.
IOW, even if prices stay the same...your cost goes up every year. WHY??? Because you're a different customer than that young(er) kid a year ago. You're a year older than they were. ALL policies have different premiums, based on your current age.
The first book on Buddhism I ever read was Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. I bought it at random in 1990 at a bookstore in Pacific Beach not too far from a record store where I worked at the time. I am a terrible practitioner, but what little has stuck has often kept me going.
