Early reporting is it might have been an attempted shooting that winged his right ear. Trump flinched - then grabbed his right ear. First reports are often wrong.Trump seems OK, physically, other than the bloodied ear.

Butler (County) PA is where my farming family lives. I was reading up on the protocol before the rally began. No guns were permitted, and Secret Service was said to be checking everyone who entered the venue. Somebody screwed up.

This should be of no concern to anyone. This is just one person's god given 2nd amendment right to fight a corrupt government. Their second amendment remedy if I am not mistaken.

This is what the 2nd amendment is for, right?

Violence on Trump only serves to strengthen him.
This increases the chance of violence on others.
Everyone becomes a target from extremists on each side.
This is why we have elections - so we can avoid this kind of crazy.
This is why it's so important not to discredit our elections with lies upon lies.

Trump is going to milk this for everything he can.

Hmm...be interesting to see how this plays out.

After seeing "the wound", what little there was, I couldn't help but wonder--even if only for a second--if it wasn't staged to garner sympathy. I doubt it was a gun, unless the shot was from a total amateur or someone quite far away. I saw one article (CNN?) that said multiple bangs were heard. There is also the chance it was coincidental fire (other peeps shooting at one another), and a bullet just happened to fly in Trump's direction.

I'm sure we can all count on the Secret Service to over react and kill the "shooter" outright, or pound them into jelly, so it will be difficult to tell what really happened. But we can hope real answers are achieved...

The shocking thing is that there have not been more assassination attempts. And I do not assume the would be assassin was some crazy nut like we usually see in mass public shootings. Still saying bits of this look stage.

1). The mailer about all hell breaking loose.
2). The terrible shot, maybe grazing an ear, maybe missing all together?
3). There is a photo shot of Trump on CNN with the American Flag right above Trump's head (POINTED DOWN at the ground) as if someone anticipated shooting the camera upwards at the sky and Trump happens to be perfectly positioned, with his fist already raised. It's like a Glamour Shot for a POTUS candidate. Looks incredibly coincidental--or very well staged.
4). The killer of course getting instantly snuffed (as I predicted one or two post up).
5. Trump saying something already about the 'Deep State'. Remember how much Trump exhibits displacement. He accuses opponents frequently of his own behavior. And there have been claims of right wing favoritism in the Secret Service.

Again, maybe this is all nothing. Maybe. We live in crazy times where ANYTHING is possible though. Crazy fricking times...

The alleged shooter today was reportedly 125 meters away from Trump. When you read that a military sniper operates at ranges from 600 to 1,200 meters, it shows how much danger Trump was in from a shooter that roof. A skilled shooter could have assassinated a major presidential candidate tonight.

An idiot claimed tonight that I was "smirking" about this news. As someone born in Dallas to two parents who were on the motorcade route in 1963 to see JFK, I have condemned political violence hundreds of times here. The assassinations we suffered in the 1960s and the near-assassination of Reagan were terrible for this country. Regardless of what some dumbasses say online because they are acting out or desperate for attention, Americans of all political beliefs are united in being utterly nauseated by this.

If you listen to the audio, before they stood him up, they had confirmation that the shooter was down. When they stood him up they formed a human shield around him (except the agents who were too short to block him, shouldn't be on that detail). At that point it is a decision whether the risk to move the protectee to better cover outweights the risk to keep him right there.

The gunman, who was armed with a rifle, was outside of the cordoned-off rally area about 200 yards from Trump's rally stage, and was standing on an elevated structure believed to be a shed, the two sources said.

It is still being determined if Trump was struck by a bullet or debris, a law enforcement source said."

Two officials spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation. They said the shooter was not an attendee at the rally and was killed by U.S. Secret Service agents.

The officials said the shooter was engaged by members of the U.S. Secret Service counterassault team. The heavily armed tactical team travels everywhere with the president and major party nominees and is meant to confront any active threats while other agents focus on safeguarding and evacuating the person at the center of protection.

For the first time in a long time, no one is here blaming Muslims, only other white Christians.

It can still happen, the shooter is still unidentified. And it probably will happen. Perhaps it will come in the comment right after this one. But usually during the first three or four hours of a tragic event that triggers inner fears, inclinations and prejudices, some politician is on Twitter, frothing at the mouth and ready to nuke Mecca.

This time it's some politician on X blaming Biden and ready to go nuclear on him. The country is turning inward and is starting to devour. As a country, America has radicalized itself. Right down the line.

As a respected poster called Kanrei commented here many, many years ago: "The monsters are again out on Maple Street."

#236... Again. Great way to get answers Scrimptaco...Answers should have been important. Unless...you have something to hide.

There is something strange here.

1). A gun man that's a terrible gun man.
2). He shoots a t.v. camera or teleprompter or something instead of his 'intended target'.
3). A mailer goes out hours before from the Trump Camp warning to prepare for something big.
4). A positively Presidential Glamor Shot with the American Flag (no less) squarely positioned above him and behind his head as he raises a fist in defiance, surrounded by Secret Service.
5). And a gun man is quickly eliminated before anyone can question him or check his story.

Again. It is likely coincidence. But awfully favorable coincidences that just happen to all line up for Trump. And I've always been one to question things, not just take them at face value. Hopefully more will come out about the shooter, their motivations, state of mind, etc...and allay my fears of something more sinister, than just a crazy with a gun.

The shooter at the Trump rally fired as many as 8 rounds from an AR style rifle while perched on a rooftop adjacent to the venue, law enforcement sources told ABC News. The shooter was 200-300 yards away at the time of the gunfire, the sources said.

"Look at 13:3"the beast rising from the sea received a mortal wound but was healed.

Just like the Lamb who was slain yet lives in Revelation 5:6, the beast appears to have survived a deadly injury of some sort, and the purpose of this imagery could not be clearer.

It is this imitation of Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection that forms the basis for man's worship of the beast."

"Ivan Raiklin is the progenitor of the Pence card,[1][2][3] which he tweeted to President Trump on December 16, 2020 (who in turn retweeted it), which outlined a novel legal theory to overturn the legitimate result of the 2020 US Presidential election.

This tweet was the precursor of the Eastman memos.

In the event of Trump winning a second term the self-proclaimed "Secretary of Retribution" claims that he would use constitutional sheriffs from conservative, rural counties to conduct raids (preferably live-streamed) of Trump's enemies, of which he has a "Deep State Target List" of 350 people.

Said list has been in circulation in right-wing circles since January 2024.[4] The sheriffs would purportedly deputize some 75,000 military veterans whom he claims were forced out of service because they refused to comply with COVID-19 vaccine mandates.[5]

A long-time associate of Michael Flynn,[6] he is a former Lt.-Col. Army reservist,[7] having served as a Green Beret, and a former employee of the Defense Intelligence Agency."

Trump's adamant talk about revenge and retribution opened the door for hundreds of possible suspects. The same with Trump's rhetoric about exporting millions of immigrants and building concentration camps. Just pick a subject like Obama Care, Veterans Benefits, Abortion, cuts to Social Security, dictatorship, anti-democracy, and dozens of other subjects that translate into hardships on American citizens . . . and the list of possible assassins could amount to millions.

My personal choice for an assassin would be a patriotic American veteran who was trying to save America from a fate worse than death.

Thomas Matthew Crooks ID'd as gunman who shot Trump during Pa. rally

The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump Saturday was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources told The Post.

Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pa., squeezed off shots--one of which grazed Trump in the ear--at an outdoor rally in Butler, just outside Pittsburgh.

Sources said Crooks was planted on a roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards away from the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds.

nypost.com

BREAKING: Images of the Trump shooter have emerged.

Thomas Matthew Crooks has been identified as the suspect who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump at his PA rally.

Crooks was 20-years-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania which was about 40 miles south of the Butler rally.

An AR-15 was reportedly recovered at the scene.

Crooks was apparently shot in the head after he tried taking out the former president.

Roughly 3,400 were forced out.

The Sheriffs will, no doubt, be using Republican Math to recruit 75,000 from a pool of thirty-four hundred.

In related news...is anyone still wondering why there's a border crisis, when Republican Sheriffs show willingness to break the law for folks they agree with?

If those reports are true, Bethel Park is in Allegheny County, not Butler County, and is a very different area. My father lived in Bethel Park for many years, and I used to live there in the summers growing up. It's a suburb of Pittsburgh. Not rural with a bunch of farmland like Butler County.

Danforth. Please. The attempted assassination of a presidential candidate is a very serious subject. It is important to be factually accurate.

Sean Connery's character did NOT bleed when hit in battle by an arrow. Rather the arrow struck his leather gun holster that was strapped across his heart, but did not penetrate into his skin. To the ignorant onlookers it appeared that he had been shot in the heart and did not bleed, hence revealing his Divinity.
It was later, towards the end during his wedding ceremony to the beautiful Roxanne, that she bit him on the side of his head causing it to bleed. The faithful gasped in horror. It was only then that his followers finally caught on that he was not divine, and the mob promptly killed him.

Trump is going to change this from a "retribution" campaign to a "revenge" and "martyr" campaign. He's going to tell his fans that he "took a bullet for them." Then his people and he are going to go after everyone that any of them think could be or are opposition to them. Trump will then use SCOTUS rulings "official act" to justify the round-up and execution of his "enemies."

"The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania," authorities said. The motive remains unclear.

#447 | Posted by earthmuse at 2024-07-14 07:53 AM | Reply

1) An assassination attempt against Trump was inevitable.

2) It was inevitable because he threatened too many people much, much too often.

3) The assassin was always equally going to be someone from the Left or Right. In this case from the Right. If you don't understand why this is true, there's not much hope for you.

4) The benefit to the country of a dead Trump is equally divided between being a disaster and a blessing.

5) There is a chance that Trump faked this assassination attempt. Again, if you don't know why this could be true, I hold out little hope for you.

Everything has been politicized in our country. Both sides have used rhetoric than can inflame and motive an unhinged person to do something stupid like this. Commentators yesterday saying we all need to tone it down. But one thing that I found disappointing and have not heard anyone make mention of is this. The first action and words out of Trump after he was made to stand up by the SS agents was a fist pump and shouting "Fight, Fight, Fight".

I guess I just come from a generation where candidates would simply flash a peace sign with their hands.

Most likely he was a mentally disturbed person who should not have had access to that kind of weapon.

But hey, apparently it's OK among Trumpublcans that guns are the majority cause of all deaths among children in this country... as long as they aren't used against their Cult Leader.

No, no radicalization by anyone. I had a very high interest in politics, read both parties platforms, and decided the GOP was for me. I then read the newspaper and found out they were looking for volunteers for a campaign and I got my mom to drive me down and I volunteered. It wasn't until the GOP tied themselves to the Religious Right that I finally had enough and became a registered Democrat. Vietnam played a big role in all this as well.

June 16, 2016: Michael Steven Sandford, a British national, attempted to grab the gun of a police officer at a Trump rally in Las Vegas, Nevada. After his arrest, he stated that he had aimed to assassinate Donald Trump with the gun. He was sentenced to twelve months and one day in prison,[125] but was released and deported to the United Kingdom after eleven months.

That's just a euphemism. The historical facts are that the first thing the colonies did when war broke out after Lexington & Concord was pass legislation to form colonial armies. Immediately following that, the second continental congress formed those separate armies into the continental army. The colonial army became the US Army after the war.

The Official TruthHurts Statement on the Assassination Attempt

I hereby and unconditionally condemn all acts of political violence. Many may recall I was the lone voice condemning the killing of Osama Bin Laden as I believed and still believe bringing him to a court of law for his crimes would have been more ethical and better for society-to have a reckoning and communal adjudication of his crimes on our nation.

I believe no human being is beyond redemption and a civilized society will treat even it's criminals with humanity. That does not equate with just letting violent criminals walk free, but justice should be about protecting society (separating the criminal from society) and rehabilitation. That even applies to -------.

I believe ------- should pay for his crimes in a court of law, be found guilty and sentenced. Promptly. I believe -------'s crimes warrant long term prison sentences.

I believe assassinating ------- would be against justice, contrary to morality and dangerous to our nation.

All that being said, as Zed has stated I would not shed a tear for his death should it come. Accepting the violence sure to spread as a response to his death, removing him from the public sphere would be a cathartic and healing event. He is singularly responsible for the destruction of the nation that I love. His lies, violence and simple meanness are tearing this country apart, to say nothing of the damage the policies and SC picks he mad have had and will continue to have on our country for decades to come.

He has not demonstrated himself worthy of pity. He is sowing what he reaps. I sincerely wish for him to do a deep self-reflection and change. the one slightly useful thing out of a catholic upbringing is the sense of guilty which can cause one to reflect on one's actions and endeavor to change. Unfortunately, ------- has never demonstrated a willingness to do this.

Just because he eventually was pulled up by secret service members to drag his fat ass off the stage is NOT a sign of character.

The fact that his rhetoric likely drove a mentally ill person to try to kill him is ALSO a sign of his character.

Jason Kohler attended Bethel Park High School with Brooks and said he remembers the 20-year-old sat alone at lunch and was "bullied every day." Kids picked on Brooks for wearing camouflage to class and his quiet demeanor, Kohler, 21, said.
This may end up being a Dylan Klebold or Mark Chapman situation.

The shooter was dangerously close to Trump but that doesn't mean we should draw pat conclusions about what some random 20-year-old with no military experience could hit with a weapon. Adrenaline changes your perception.

The Secret Service counter-snipers have to train for years on how to handle themselves in a firefight. That's how they took him out so quickly.

Since people are discussing -------- character:

"We'll stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi, who ruined San Francisco " how's her husband doing, anybody know?"

"And she's against building a wall at our border, even though she has a wall around her house " which obviously didn't do a very good job."

"It's weird things going on in that household in the last couple of weeks," Trump said. "You know, probably, you and I are better off not talking about it. The glass, it seems, was broken from the inside to the out and, you know, so, it wasn't a break in, it was a break out."

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president, has also made light of the attack. Trump Jr. shared a post on social media that featured an image of a hammer and a pair of underwear with the words "Got my Paul Pelosi Halloween costume ready."

From the audio you can hear them calling out that the shooter is down. AT that moment, agents quickly consider the threat of a possible second shooter and evaluate the risk of moving him to the safety of the vehicle as compared to keeping him down. Also, they have not evaluated him medically, and wouldn't have known whether there were additional wounds. I think they made the right decision to move him. I expected them to pull him down behind the stage instead of down the stairs. It looked like there was a moat between the risers where he stands and the bleachers behind him, at least that is the setup I am familiar with.

Making a public gesture was a dangerous thing to do, in my opinion. There could have been another shooter. But he was in a situation like nothing he'd ever faced before in his life. I wouldn't expect him to react like a trained Secret Service agent.

That is correct, hence my critique (many posts up) of the makeup of his security detail. The maneuver to remove him from the stage was choreographed and practiced in regular training and probaly that very day on that very stage. Each person has a specific position and role. The woman in front had no business being part of that detail. She was too short to be on that particular team.

Trump was not fully compliant with the orders from the team, trying to get his shoes, hat, fist pump, etc. That is also something they train for, because most Dignitaries have big egos, and getting shot at makes people act irrationally (not that he is generally rational in the first place). The detail needs to be prepared to force him to comply with orders, even if they have to break his arm to do it. Again the female officer (and maybe the guy behind him) were too small to handle those duties.

I was still in Elementary School in Ft Worth when JFK was assassinated, in Jr High and High School for MLK and RFK's public executions. I've told that story here before so I won't again.

But I will say that it was a different situation altogether; John Kennedy had made enemies at home and abroad, assuredly so, but he wasn't advocating a violent Civil War to satisfy his Base's lack of faith in democracy.

MLK advocated peaceful social change, and RFK dared to buck the political and moneyed powers of his time.

In this case, it appears that this shooting wasn't particularly partisan; it appears that it was the result of a political movement based on anger, lax gun laws, and a delusional belief in a cheap con artist, criminal, and traitor.

I have sympathy for the Office and the Nation... and the innocents, but the current Republican Party?

They are eating their own, damaging others, and they deserve the consequences.

Funny you should bring that up. It's something David Frum speaks to quite eloquently in his latest article:

The despicable shooting at Trump, which also caused death and injury to others, now secures his undeserved position as a partner in the protective rituals of the democracy he despises. The appropriate expressions of dismay and condemnation from every prominent voice in American life have the additional effect of habituating Americans to Trump's legitimacy. In the face of such an outrage, the familiar and proper practice is to stress unity, to proclaim that Americans have more things in common than that divide them. Those soothing words, true in the past, are less true now.

Nobody seems to have language to say: We abhor, reject, repudiate, and punish all political violence, even as we maintain that Trump remains himself a promoter of such violence, a subverter of American institutions, and the very opposite of everything decent and patriotic in American life.

"Not long before shots rang out, rallygoers noticed a man climbing to the roof of a nearby building and warned local police, according to two law enforcement officials.

One local police officer climbed to the roof and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder, and Crooks quickly took a shot toward Trump, and that's when Secret Service snipers shot him, said the officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation."

You nailed it, Gal. When I was in DC there were numerous different law enforcement agencies milling about the city. Our radios were not capable of communication with one another. I remember a day when a guy jogged past me, and I thought, "that's a weird outfit for a workout", but can't chase a guy just because he is running. Next thing you know a LEO from another agency comes running by asking if I have seen him. Can't remember what he was wanted for but it was serious. It took a couple minutes for their dispatcher to call my dispatcher and then transmit an APB.

Hopefully with the newer digital radios they now have the ability to get officers at such an event hooked up on a frequency the USSS can monitor.

I'm not real convinced this is politically motivated. 20 year olds are seldom that wound up about politics. Could be just a guy with a school shooter personality that saw an opportunity for a big crowd and a chance to be "remembered". That doesn't change the fact that a certain group of extremist nut-jpbs will see it as an open call for war.

#656 Gal, this may be the most disturbing tactical error yet, the fact that a ladder was present. Regardless of whether the building was inside, or outside the secure perimeter, it would have been absolutely basic to check surrounding buildings for ability to access the roofs. Any ladders found would be confiscated and removed from the area.

I also have to question the makeup of Trumps close-in security detail. Dignitary Protection is the highest echelon of USSS. It should staffed with the most tactically trained, physically fit agents available. These agents need to be large (to shield the protectee), fast (to literally RUN beside the beast) and have the upper body strength needed to neutralize threats. Speaking as a woman with a career in law enforcement, you will never find women who can compete with men on that level, and only the very best should be in that role. II also saw several obese agents who can't possibly be the very best.

It leaves me wondering, did Trump CHOOSE these people from his time as President to continue on his detail? Or did the USSS send him women and obese agents as some kind of joke? Compare this group with President Biden's detail. I realize times have changed, but I don't remember there being more than a couple women in the entire division, and even then I think it was for the first lady (to protect her while changing clothes, etc)

Indeed, but USSS has at least 5000 agents in various divisions. Uniformed Division, Investigative Agents (SS handles counterfeiting investigations), K9, SWAT, Tactical, and lots of "inside" jobs. Dignitary Protection selects from the best of those 5000, and the President's detail is the best of those. Anybody who doesn't maintain that level of fitness and proficiency gets sent back to one of the other divisions. Most don't make a career out of it anyway because of the travel involved, so it is generally staffed with younger, ore fit personnel. There is no shortage of applicants wanting the suit and the sunglasses. No excuse for less than ideal candidates.

On the photo of the bullet - here's the interview with the photographer. It really is compelling at several levels:
www.nytimes.com

F number: F 1.6
Exposure time: 1/8,000
FL: 24 mm

If you use those numbers, and assume a 3000'/second speed of the bullet, then you come up with a path length 4.5" "smear" and add the trailing air turbulence you are pretty much right on the money with what is in the photo - even with the general assumption on speed.

(3000 ft/sec)*(1/8000 sec)=0.375 feet
0.375*12=4.5"

I did do the math correctly. Sorry I thought I was wrong!
(3000/8000)*12= 4.5" "bullet" (smear)
(3000/4000)*12= 9" "bullet" (smear)
(3000/1000)*12= 36" "bullet" (smear)

His name is Corey Comperatore. He died after throwing his body over his wife and daughters to protect them. He was a volunteer firefighter who was the first to run into a burning building, and a supportive "cheer dad" for his daughters who taught him how to do a cartwheel for a parents mock competition.

He was a big Trump supporter, but friends who are Biden supporters spoke out, saying their friendship transcended politics, and they didn't let their differing political views come between them.

Two people remain in critical condition. Maybe you could take the time to look up their names yourself.

Suggesting a government run public school should be allowed to indoctrinate other people's children but parents are not permitted to indoctrinate their own is treading very close to Marxism.

You see....teachers certainly grasp the reality of forming children's values when they are young.

Parents sort of didn't really figure out how bad it was until covid.

The public school system's education process was going so badly they enlisted parents help on Zoom.

Parents then really saw exactly what their children are being told to believe.

Conservative parents who have been acquiescent for decades really are beginning to push back in greater numbers.

Liberals just aren't used to that.

They were moved to stable condition earlier this afternoon.

Exactly. The shutter speed is independent of the burst or acquisition rate. So 100' between frames is really fast - 30 fps. Twenty fps will get you a shot every 150 feet. All that depends on the number of pixels, and the shutter being electronic not mechanical. You also need fast media. The fact that that one frame capture both Trump and the bullet is stunning.

Oh - also that was after it hit him. It was traveling from left to right in the image. That puts the bullet was behind his head. He's looking to the left, his right ear was hit, and the shooter was to his right. At least that's what I believe based on the geometry of the site, shooter location, stage, and matching the photos with the video of the event.

I was thinking the same thing. The parents of todays 20 somethings were the first generation of latchkey kids with working moms. Left to fend for themselves as children, they tend to overcompensate and helicopter-parent their kids, stunting their ability to become sturdy, independent and productive on their own.
